1 PARTICIPANTS ARE NEEDED We are looking for individuals to participate in a research study that is examining the use of an electronic pillbox. For more information please read the inside of this brochure.

2 Candidates must be: An African American woman 18 years of age or older On Antiretroviral medication Not an employee or UF student Your participation would involve 3 brief meetings with research staff. These meetings include a brief face-to-face questionnaire and training on how to use the electronic pillbox, a follow-up phone call during your use of the pillbox, and brief face-toface meeting at the end of 30 days. You will receive a $25.00 Prepaid debit card for each meeting you complete. 4 W I S E P I L L D I S P E N S E R U S E R M A N UA L USING THE WISEPILL MK2 DISPENSER ABOUT THE WISEPILL DISPENSER The Wisepill portable medication dispenser has a cellphone communication chip at its heart. Every time the dispenser is opened, the dispenser sends a medication event to a central management system (Wisepill Web Server). Medication records are stored securely on the Wisepill Database and can be accessed securely using the Wisepill Web Application. The Wisepill Web Server can be configured to send reminder text messages to a mobile phone. You will need: 1.) Wisepill Dispenser 2.) Wisepill Charger Wisepill Mk2 Dispenser User Manual Page 2

6 OPENING THE WISEPILL DISPENSER Opening the Wisepill Dispenser is as easy as one-two-three! Figure 2. The Wisepill Dispenser Figure 3. Open the dispenser by pushing the lid forward To open the device, hold the base with one hand and open the lid with the other. With the lid open, you will be able to see half of the pill box which is in the front bin. The pills in the front bin that are now easy to get to but the ones in the back bin are not. When you run out of pills in the front bin, you can take the pill box out and turn it so that the available pills are in front. Wisepill Mk2 Dispenser User Manual Page 4

8 TAKING YOUR MEDICINE 1. Every time the dispenser is opened, the Wisepill device will attempt to send a medication event. You will notice that the green light will flash for about a minute. If the device is opened soon after a previous opening, the green light may only flash for a few seconds. 2. If the red light comes on, this indicates that the battery is low. Go ahead and charge the device (See section on Charging the Wisepill Dispenser). 3. If the green light or red light does not come on at all, your battery is most likely very low Go ahead and charge the device (See section on Charging the Wisepill Dispenser). THE BATTERY There are three ways to know if your Wisepill Dispenser battery is flat: 1.) When the dispenser is opened and the battery is low, the red led will come on or flash to indicate that the battery is low. 2.) The Wisepill System can be configured to send an SMS (text message) to your cell phone if the battery is low. 3.) A battery status record is available on the Web application and can be accessed via an internet browser. 4.) The Wisepill Dispenser battery will last 3 to 6 months if only used once per day. Note: The dispenser reports its battery voltage to the server every time it is opened. It is reported in milli Volts. Less than 3600 milli volts is regarded as low. CHARGING THE WISEPIL L DISPENSER 1.) If the device is plugged into the charger, the red light will come on to indicate the battery is being charged. The green light also flashes while the device is plugged into a charger. 2.) When the battery is full, the red light will go off. Wisepill Mk2 Dispenser User Manual Page 6

9 Note: The device reports its battery voltage to the server (via GPRS or SMS) every time it is opened. It is reported in milli-volts. Less than 3700 milli volts is regarded as low. CARING FOR THE WISEP ILL DISPENSER 1.) The Wisepill Dispenser is in reality a pill box with a built in cellphone modem. It should therefore be treated as you would treat a regular cell phone. 2.) You can clean your Wisepill Dispenser using a damp cloth to wipe it clean. As with a regular cellphone, the dispenser should be kept as dry as possible. Wisepill Mk2 Dispenser User Manual Page 7
