Co., 702 E. 40th St., Lubbock, TX USA. The duration of the warranty for WYLIE manufactured equipment and products (excluding polyethylene tanks) is for one year from date of delivery to the carrier. The Warrantor warrants to the Buyer that the product(s) sold hereunder are free from defects to material and workmanship, under normal use and service, in the hands of the original buyer. If goods are defective, the defective goods will be replaced with identical goods. If identical goods are not available, the Buyer may elect to receive a refund of the purchase price for the defective goods, or the Buyer may order similar goods. The damage for defective goods shall not exceed the purchase price of the defective goods. No allowance shall be made for labor or expense or repairing goods without prior approval in writing by the Warrantor. The Buyer s remedy under this warranty does not include incidental or consequential damages. For products not manufactured by the Warrantor, the Warrantor warrants these products to the extent of the warranties of their respective manufactures. There are no warranties which extend beyond this limited warranty, including the implied warranty of merchantability. Dealers or representatives shall not make any representation in regard to particular goods except as authorized by the Warrantor through a written warranty accompanying those particular goods. Co., and its divisions, Wylie Spray Centers, in each location, requires as a condition of sale and coverage by its LIMITED WARRANTY that all equipment sold by it be used in accordance with the instructions and specifications of the Warrantor. This requirement is in addition to the LIMITED WARRANTY. Polyethylene and fiberglass tanks These tanks are warranted for the storage and transport of water, herbicide solutions (on farm), liquid fertilizer and liquid feed. Such tanks should not be used for the storage of any bulk herbicide (undiluted). Any such use will render this warranty void. In addition, the Warrantor makes no warranty with regard to bulkhead tank fittings used in connection with tanks containing bulk herbicides and the use of any such fittings sold by the Warrantor or any WYLIE dealer in connection with tanks containing bulk herbicides is improper. Chemical Incompatibility The Warrantor does not make any recommendations or warranties regarding chemical compatibility. WYLIE shall not be liable for any damages due to chemical incompatibility, and any Buyer or user should rely solely on written information furnished by the chemical manufacturer regarding chemical compatibility. No employee of WYLIE Mfg. Co., or its representatives, agents or dealers, is authorized to vary the terms of this limited warranty.

Make sure that the Auto-Skid is properly secured to the dump truck. Always wear safety goggles, chemical resistant apron and rubber gloves when handling chemicals. Read and understand the chemical manufacturer s safety guidelines on handling, mixing and application. During Use Do not allow anyone to stand between the truck and the Auto-Skid when backing under the Auto-Skid. Do not allow anyone to ride on Auto-Skid during operation. Falling can cause injury or death. Reduce speed when crossing uneven or rough terrain. Always turn off truck engine before making adjustments or repairs to a loaded Auto-Skid. 2

7 Safety Issues After Use Inspect Auto-Skid for wear or damage. Ensure that all fasteners and fittings are tight. Flush tank and pump with fresh water if chemicals are used. Dispose of flush water using appropriate means. Carry out maintenance and/or lubrication procedures as outlined in this manual. Always Keep hands, feet and clothing away from moving parts. Wear protective clothing and gloves when working with chemicals. Attach the anchor chains and the engage the optional frame lock to prevent the Auto Skid from sliding out of the dump truck bed. Plug the optional lights into the truck (if equipped). Operator s Instructions When possible, avoid operating the vehicle near ditches, embankments and holes. Reduce speed when turning, crossing slopes and on rough, slick or muddy surfaces. Do not permit others to ride. Operate truck smoothly no jerky turns, starts and stops. When truck is idle, engage brakes and park lock securely. Check lights and wiring daily. Service and replace to maintain proper operation. Do not store or transport any petroleum based or flammable liquid in the polyethylene tank. 3

9 Introduction 1,600 Gal. Dust Killer Auto-Skid 1,250 Gal. Ice Blitzer Auto-Skid Introduction The Wylie Auto-Skid Sprayers are the result of years of testing and field proven experience. They are built of the finest materials and expert workmanship to provide you with years of reliable service. Auto-Skids are designed to load into a dump truck without the need for hoists or lifts. The front legs automatically fold into the frame as the truck backs under the Auto-Skid. The Auto-Skids are available with a 1,000, 1,025, 1,250 or 1,600 gallon tanks. Other features include a centrifugal pump powered by a Honda engine, hose reel and fire nozzle, and a sight gauge for black tanks. Options include in-cab controls, tailgate lock kit and a light kit. The Dust Killer Auto-Skid is designed to spray water for dust abatement while the Ice Blitzer treats roads and parking lots with de-ice or anti-ice chemicals before or during icing events. This manual explains how to safely and properly operate and maintain your Auto-Skid. Thoroughly read and understand the contents of this manual before operating your Auto-Skid. Pay Particular Attention To All Safety Suggestions Their purpose is to assure safe operation of the sprayer and prevent injury or damage to yourself or the unit. 5

10 Inspection & Setup Inspection & Setup Your Auto-Skid is delivered ready for operation. However, it is suggested that you check fasteners for proper torque. Check the motor to assure that it has the proper oil level (see the motor operator s manual for details). Make a visual inspection to assure that nothing was damaged in shipping. Report any problems to your dealer or to Wylie Manufacturing. Loading Auto-Skid Into Dump Truck The 1,000 gallon Auto-Skid can be loaded into many single axle trucks, while the 1,025, 1,250 and 1,600 gallon Auto-Skids fit into most tandem axle dump trucks. Slowly back the truck under the Auto-Skid with the bed slightly raised. The front legs will fold inside the frame as the Auto-Skid is loaded. DANGER Before moving the truck, make sure that all personnel are clear of the area between the truck and Auto-Skid. Failure to do so could cause serious injury or death. The tailgate must be removed from the dump truck before loading the Auto-Skid. Remove the lock bolts from the front legs of the Auto- Skid. < Leg Lock Bolt Figure A1 Leg Lock Bolts Make sure that all personnel are clear before moving the truck. 11 Inspection & Setup Auto-Skids may be equipped with optional tailgate lock pins. As the Auto-Skid is loaded, the lock pin should engage the truck lock. The lock pin can be rotated to align it with the truck tailgage lock. This tailgate lock pin is designed to fit many trucks, however, the design and location of the truck lock varies greatly between different truck models. If the lock pin cannot be adjusted for your truck, contact the Wylie Engineering Department at for assistance. Since Wylie cannot be sure of the integrity of any truck s tailgate lock, the Auto-Skid should also be secured by chaining the Auto-Skid to the truck through the tie-down eyelets. The eyelets are located along both sides of the skid. The Auto-Skid must be secured to assure that the Auto-Skid cannot slide out of the truck during use. Pull the pins and retract the rear legs. Figure A7 Tie-Down Chain and Binder (customer supplied) Auto-Skids can also be equipped with an optional light kit as shown in Figure A4. 12 Setup Dust Killer Setup The Dust Killer can be operated manually or electrically. If your Dust Killer Auto-Skid is to be operated manually, go to the Operation instructions on page 10. The Dust Killer Auto-Skid can be equipped with an optional electric control box. The control box can be bolted to the truck dash or magnets (not included) can be bolted to the control box for mounting to the dash. Ice Blitzer Setup The Ice Blitzer Auto-Skid can be controlled with an Remcor 2551 electric control or with an SCS400 automatic control. Follow the directions included with either controller for proper wiring and installation. With either controller, the cable assemblies from the control box and the valves should be routed so that they can be plugged together near the front of the dump bed. Figure A8 Optional SCS-11RK Control Box Mounting Follow the directions that are included with the control box for proper wiring of the SCS-11RK control box. Route the cable assembly from the control box outside the cab. Route the cable from the valve at the back of the skid to the front of the skid. Secure the cable with plastic ties so that the cable will not be damaged as the skid is loaded and unloaded. The two cables should be plugged together. The pressure line should be connected with the coupler. 13 Operation Operation Filling the Tank Auto-Skids can be filled through the Quick-Fill or the optional Anti-Siphon Fill. The main tank valve should be closed as well as all discharge valves. Open the Quick-Fill valve and start the engine. The tank will fill through the by-pass fitting. Note: Ball valves are open when the handle is parallel to the flow and closed when the handle is perpendicular to the flow. Filling from pressurized source To fill the tank through the Quick-Fill couple the supply hose to the Quick-Fill fitting, open the flow from the nurse trailer or other source, open the Quick-Fill valve and main tank valve. < Main Tank Valve Closed < Quick-Fill Valve Open < Supply Hose Main Tank Valve Open > Quick-Fill Valve Open > Figure B2 Filling Tank Through Quick-Fill From Pond or Tank < Supply Hose Filling through Anti-Siphon fill The third way to fill the tank is through the optional Anti- Siphon fill. Open the tank lid, couple the supply hose to the Anti-Siphon fitting and open the flow. < Anti-Siphon Fill Figure B1 Filling Tank Through Quick-Fill From Pressurized Source Filling from pond or tank with Auto-Skid pump The tank can also be filled by drawing water from a tank or other body of water. The supply hose should be equipped with a foot valve and strainer, then be coupled to the Quick-Fill fitting. The vertical distance from the foot valve to the pump must not be more than 20, however, it is suggested that the Auto-Skid be placed as close to the water source as possible. In some circumstances it may be necessary to fill the supply hose before coupling it to the Quick-Fill fitting to help the pump prime quickly. < Supply Hose Figure B3 Filling Tank Through Optional Anti-Siphon Fill The polyethylene tank is designed to hold water or water based herbicides only. Do not store or transport any petroleum products in the poly tank. Storing or transporting fuel or other petroleum products will cause the tank to soften and eventually rupture. 9

14 Dust Killer Operation Dust Killer Auto-Skid Operation Operating the Spray Bar Position the truck at the area to be sprayed. Adjust the spray bar to the desired height by removing the lock pins, moving the spray bar and reinserting the lock pins. With the main spray bar valve closed and the main tank valve open, start the engine. The Dust Killer can be equipped with either of two spray bars: (1) The SPRAYBAR-DUST2 (Fig. B4) is equipped with 3 flood nozzles and ball valves for the two outside nozzles. The spray bar can spray from the center tip, two tips or all three tips. To spray from the center tip only, close both spray bar valves. To spray the center and one side, close the valve on the opposite side of the bar. To spray from all three tips, open both spray bar valves. If the spray bar is operated manually, open the main spray bar valve, (as shown in Fig. B4) the appropriate spray bar valves and begin moving the truck at the desired speed. If the spray bar is operated by the in-cab control, open the main spray bar valve, the appropriate spray bar valves, then flip the master switch to the On position. < Main Tank Valve Open Main Spray Bar Valve Open > Master Switch > < Lock Pin Lock Pin > < Spray Bar Valve Figure B4 3 Nozzle Spray Bar < Spray Bar Valve (2) The SPRAYBAR-DUST (Fig. B5) is equipped with 8 fan nozzles and can be set to apply water in an 11 swath or up to 20. Rotate the outside nozzles for the desired swath width. < Main Tank Valve Open < Main Spray Bar Valve Open Figure B6 In-Cab Control The spray bar is controlled by an electric ball valve that is either open or closed. The SCS-11DK control is also used in other applications where pressure adjustment is part of the assembly. In this application, the pressure adjustment switch is non-functional. The pressure gauge (if connected) will monitor the operating pressure. Flip the master switch on to start spraying, off to stop spraying. The spray bar flow rate can be adjusted to some degree by partially closing the main spray bar valve. Do not control the spray bar flow rate by adjusting the main tank valve. This valve should remain fully open during all spraying operations. Partially closing the main tank valve can result in cavitation in the pump. Operating the Fire Hose The fire hose can be used for controlling dust in confined spaces, watering remote vegetation or fighting grass fires. Remove the quick couple cap and couple the hose to the fire hose fitting. Make sure that the main tank valve is open and the main spray bar valve is closed. Start the engine and turn the in-cab master switch on (if equipped). Open the fire hose ball valve. The fire nozzle rotates to adjust the spray pattern from fan to stream. Raise the truck bed until the rear legs touch the ground. Slowly move the truck forward. The front legs will automatically fold down. Install the lock bolts on the front legs. Ice Blitzer Auto-Skid Operation Applying De-Icing/Anti-Icing Chemicals A variety of de-icing and anti-icing chemicals are available for control or prevention of icing on roadways. Operators should check with the manufacturer of the selected chemical for the proper application rate, speed, method and timing. The chemical manufacturer should also provide information such as spray bar height and other application parameters. Note: Wind conditions can effect the spray pattern, especially of the boomless nozzles. Care should be taken to assure that the chemical is being applied to the target area. Figure B9 Spray Tip, Cap & Strainer Flushing Spray Lines Initial Operation Before adding de-icing chemical to the tank, the Ice Blitzer should be tested to clean any debris from the lines and to check all fittings. Add gallons of water to the spray tank. Remove the spray tips and tip strainers from the spray bar. With the main tank valve and agitator valve open, start the engine, then activate the master switch and boom switches on the controller. (If using the DCS400 automatic controller, see the Raven owner s manual for test mode instructions.) Flush the lines, turn off the engine, reinstall the spray tips and clean the in-line strainer. Operating the Spray Bar The spray bar may be one section or three sections. The one section boom has 7-9 nozzles that cover a single lane. The one section boom is controlled by a single valve. The three section boom includes the main center section which covers one lane and two boomless nozzles which applies de-icing chemicals to two additional lanes. The spray bar sections are operated by an electric ball valve for each section. The system is also regulated by a pressure regulating valve. 11

The Bypass/Fill valve serves several purposes. (1) If the tank is to be filled by the pump, attach the fill hose to the main fill valve, open the main fill valve and the bypass/fill valve. Start the engine and fill the tank. (2) The bypass/ fill valve can be used to mix de-icing solution. Open the bypass/fill valve, agitator valve and main tank valve. Start the pump to mix the solution. The bypass/fill valve should be closed before opening the spray bar valves. Failure to do so will prevent adequate operating pressure. Figure B12 Ice Blitzer Spray Bar Controls The Ice Blitzer may be controlled by either the Remcor 2551 electric controller or the SCS400 automatic controller. Remcor 2551 Electric Control The Remcor 2551 Control has a master switch and three boom switches as well as a pressure adjustment switch. To start the flow through the spray bar, flip the master switch on and flip the Center switch on. The agitator valve should be open and the bypass/fill valve should be closed. The chart on page 16 shows the rate per lane mile at different pressures and speeds. Push the pressure adjust switch up or down to raise or lower the pressure as needed. Adjust the spray bar to the desired height by removing the lock pins, moving the spray bar and reinserting the lock pins. With the spray bar valves closed and the main tank valve as well as the agitator valve open, start the engine. 12 Figure B13 Remcor 2551 Controller If it is desired to apply de-icing chemical to more than one lane, one or both of the boomless nozzles can be activated. Engage boom switches Left and/or Right to activate the boomless nozzles. If the operating pressure does not rise as high as desired, the agitator valve can be partially or completely closed. If the agitator is closed, reopen the valve when the spray bar is turned off. Failure to do so will cause the pump seal to overheat and fail due to the lack of circulation of fluid.

This controller allows the operator to program the amount of chemical applied per lane mile. The controller will then monitor the vehicle speed and regulate the flow for accurate application. Refer to the owner s manual of the DCS400 for calibration, programming and operating instructions. Hose & Reel The Ice Blitzer Auto-Skid is equipped with a reel and hose with spray nozzle for applying de-icing chemical to sidewalks or other areas that are inaccessible to the spray bar. Turn the boom valves off on the controller. Open the main tank valve and agitator valve, then start the engine. Loosen the hose reel lock and unroll the desired amount of hose. Make sure that the spray nozzle is turned off, then open the hose reel valve. Move to the area to be sprayed, then open the spray nozzle. The spray nozzle can be adjusted from a wide fan to straight stream by rotating the spray nozzle body. If the volume coming from the spray nozzle is excessive for the desired application, the bypass valve can be partially opened to allow part of the fluid to bypass back to the tank. The hose reel valve can also be partially closed to restrict the amount of fluid flowing to the spray nozzle. < Hose Reel Valve Hose Reel Lock > Figure B15 Hose Reel Operation When the hand application is completed, close the hose reel valve and turn the engine off. Rewind the hose onto the reel by rotating the handle. Tighten the hose reel lock to prevent the reel from unrolling. Unloading the Auto-Skid Lower the rear legs and insert the lock pins. Disconnect the controller cable and light connection (if equipped). Disengage the tailgate lock (if equipped) and disconnect the tie-down chains. Raise the truck bed until the rear legs touch the ground. Slowly move the truck forward. The front legs will automatically fold down. Install the lock bolts on the front legs. 13

18 Maintenance Freeze Protection The tank and fittings are susceptible to rupture in freezing conditions if water or some other fluids are left in the tank or plumbing. To prevent freeze damage, the tank and plumbing should be drained. Remove the plug beneath the tank, the pump drain plug, and open valves to allow the water to drain from the system. The system can be further protected by adding a few gallons of nontoxic RV antifreeze solution to the tank and pumping it through the plumbing system. If one tip does not spray properly, the strainer may need cleaning. Turn the tip cap ¼ turn to remove. Clean the strainer and tip, if needed. The tip should be cleaned with a TeeJet tip brush or a toothbrush. Do not use wire, picks or knives to clean the tip as the orifice can be damaged causing a deformed pattern. Pump/Motor Refer to the manuals provided by the pump and motor manufacturer for maintenance instructions for the respective components. Cleaning Debris From The System From time to time it may be necessary to clean debris from the system. The Auto-Skid is equipped with an in-line strainer. To clean the strainer, close the main tank valve and the bypass/fill valve. Unscrew the strainer cap and remove the screen. The strainer is equipped with an O-ring that may come out with the cap or may stay in the strainer body. Make sure that the O-ring is not lost or pinched as the strainer is cleaned. Wash the screen and install. Be sure that the main tank valve is reopened. Check the valve for any leaks. Retighten the cap or check the O-ring if the strainer leaks. A leaking strainer will also suck air when the pump is started. An air leak will cause pump cavitation and will not allow adequate operating pressure. Figure B18 Tip Strainer 14
