Use a good grade of thread sealant on all fittings to insure no leaks in the plumbing system. 2. The roller pump is NOT included with this assembly, but must be supplied by the customer. It is intended for this pump to be mounted directly to a tractor PTO shaft. 3. Thread the nylon fittings into the ports of the pump. Be sure the 3/4" MNPT x 1" hose barb fitting is threaded into the inlet port. Attach the torque chain and S hook to the pump PT-5880 Shown GENERAL INFORMATION The purpose of this manual is to assist you in operating and maintaining your lawn and garden sprayer. Please read it carefully as it furnishes information which will help you achieve years of dependable trouble free operation. WARRANTY / PARTS / SERVICE Products are warranted for one year from date of purchase against manufacturer or workmanship defects. Your authorized dealer is the best source of replacement parts and service. To obtain prompt, efficient service, always remember to give the following information: 1. Correct part description and part number. 2. Model Number of your sprayer. 3. Serial Number of your sprayer. 4. The directo valve sub-assembly will be bolted to the valve stand. The valve stand will need to be rotated upward so that the second bolt to hold it to the 3-point can be affixed through the provided slot in the 3-point. Tighten the (2) bolts that hold the valve stand to the 3-point. 5. If an (optional) jet agitator is to be used, install the parts to the directo valve and to the tank as per the agitator kit instructions. 6. Affix the Boomjet Nozzle assembly to the 3-point using the (2) holes at the rear of the unit. (see exploded view) Use (2) 1/2" x 1 1/4" hex bolts and (2) 1/2" whiz locknuts to secure it into place. 7. Slide the hose clamps onto the hoses before attaching to the hose barbs. Secure all hoses in place by tightening the hose clamps to the hose. TANK & SADDLE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS 1. Join the nylon fittings into the tank as shown in the exploded view drawing. 2. Tank fittings should be tightened (if necessary) before filling the tank. The tightening of fittings on gaskets which Part description and part numbers can be obtained from the illustrated parts list section of this manual. Whenever you need parts or repair service, contact your distributor / dealer first. 2 have become wet with certain solutions can cause gaskets to deform and dislocate. If this should happen, it is necessary to dry the gasket completely before tightening the fitting. 3. Bolt the tank and saddle assembly to the 3-point unit using (2) 1/2" x 1 1/4" bolts at the front, & (2) 1/2" hook bolts at the rear, securing all in place with (4) 1/2" whiz locknuts. 4. Plumb the correct hoses to their appropriate positions. Refer to the exploded view later in this owner s manual. TANK CARE & MAINTENANCE Warning: Do not use the tank as a container for fuel oils, kerosene, gasoline, or any other petroleum distillate product. All polyolefins are softened and permeated by such products. In an enclosed area, the vaporization of these materials from the outside surface of the tank could create a dangerous condition. 1. The tank should not be used as a pressure vessel nor used with chemicals or solutions having a weight of more than 12 pounds per gallon. 2. Store the tank in a dry dark place (if possible) when not in use. Storage out of sunlight will prolong the life of the tank. 3. Do not drop, strike, or kick the tank at cold temperatures. Tanks become brittle and are subject to cracking at temperatures below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. 4. Always flush the tank with water and a neutralizing agent (such as Nutra-Sol ) at the end of each use to prevent contamination of solutions. INFORMATION ABOUT THE SPRAYER Roller pumps are positive displacement pumps which means that the entire solution being pumped must go somewhere or the pump will break. In this roller pumping system, solution is drawn from the tank and forced to a planned source such as boom nozzles, handgun, or jet agitator. The pressure is controlled by a relief valve which is a spring loaded device that controls the amount of fluid bypassed to the tank. The handle on the relief valve is to be tightened to increase pressure and loosened to decrease the pressure. The directo-valve is the off-on control which allows the operator to manually control the solution going to the boom. TESTING THE SPRAYER Attach the sprayer to the tractor 3 point hitch. Mount the roller pump to the PTO and affix the torque chain to the roller pump. Open tank lid and be sure the tank is clean and free of foreign material. Fill the tank about one half full with plain water. Before starting, open the suction line ball valve, turn the relief valve handle out to lower the line pressure, and thereby to help to prime the pump. CAUTION: Always be sure that water has reached the pump before starting your sprayer. If the pump is run dry, serious damage to the pump will result. Always have the directo valve open to the BoomJet nozzle so that any air which may be trapped in the line will be forced out. AFTER SPRAYING WARNING: Some chemicals will damage the pump parts if allowed to soak untreated for a length of time. Always flush the pump with water after use. Do not allow chemicals to sit in pump for extended times of idleness. After use fill the sprayer part way with water, start the sprayer and allow clear water to be pumped through the plumbing system and out through the BoomJet nozzle. After use dispose of unused chemicals per instructions of chemical manufacturer. Refill the tank about half full with plain water and use a chemical neutralizer such as Nutra- Sol or equivalent and repeat cleaning instructions above. Flush the entire sprayer with the neutralizing agent. Follow the chemical manufacturers disposal instructions of all wash or rinsing water. Remove tips from the BoomJet nozzle. Wash tips thoroughly with water or cleaning solution (appropriate for chemical used). Blow out orifice, clean and dry. If orifice remains clogged, clean it with a fine bristle (not wire) brush, or with a toothpick. Do not damage the orifice. Water rinse and dry tips before storing. WINTER STORAGE Drain all water out of sprayer paying special attention to pump & valves. These items are especially prone to damage from chemicals and freezing weather. The sprayer should be winterized before storage by pumping a solution of water and anti-freeze through the entire plumbing. Proper care and maintenance will prolong the life of the sprayer. Page 2

3 The 5880 BoomJet Nozzle combines two off-center tips and three VeeJet nozzles to produce an overall wide swath flat spray. The nozzle assembly provides a good distribution for the wide pattern coverage obtained. It is also furnished with one additional 1/4" NPT pipe plug and one blank tip for allowing the BoomJet to spray to one side only. W = Maximum effective coverage with nozzle mounted at 36" height.
