Inspection 1. Raise vehicle on hoist. 2. Inspect routing of LH rear brake line between frame rail and body (Figure 1). Brake line should be routed inboard next to fuel line bundle, not on top of fuel line bundle.

2 Figure 1 3. If brake line routing is OK, return vehicle to service. 4. If brake line routing is not OK, perform Replacement procedure. Replacement Procedure NOTE: New line will be routed as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2

3 1. Remove four bolts from muffler hangers at rear of mufflers. 2. Remove four nuts and bolts at catalytic converter-to-muffler inlet pipe connections. 3. Lower muffler inlet pipes and support them out of the way. 4. Disconnect existing brake line at brake line support bracket and position out of the way (Figure 3). Figure 3 5. Connect new brake line at brake line support bracket (Figure 3). Align new brake line over frame rail as shown (Figure 4) and tighten brake line nut to 20 N-m(15 lb-ft) (Figure 3). Figure 4 6. Using a tubing cutter, cut existing brake line to align with new brake line (Figure 5).

4 Figure 5 7. Position union nut on old line (Figure 5). CAUTION Carefully clean any sharp edges from existing tube to prevent any loose metal from entering brake line. 8. Using a double flaring tool, double flare end of existing brake line. 9. Position union fitting and connect new brake line and old brake line to union fitting. Using backup wrench, tighten brake line nuts to 20N-m(15 lb-ft), (Figure 5). 10. Remove upper LH bolt from LH muffler hanger bracket (Figure 3). 11. Position new clip over brake line and install bolt in muffler hanger. Tighten bolt to 16-24N-m(12-17 lb-ft), (Figure 3). 12. Position clip over brake line just forward of union fitting. Install bolt in existing hole in frame rail and tighten to 16-24N-m(12-17 lb-ft), (Figure 5). 13. Position old brake line out of the way (Figure 5). 14. Clean old gasket material from converter-to-muffler inlet pipe flanges. 15. Connect muffler inlet pipes to catalytic converter pipes using new gaskets and tighten bolts to 33-50N-m(24-36 lb-ft). 16. Connect muffler hangers to rear of muffler and tighen bolts to 16-24N-m(12-17 lb-ft). 17. Bleed brake system. Use only Ford Brake Fluid C6AZ AA (ESA-M6C25-A) (in Canada Motorcraft CXC-31 or 32) to replace lost fluid.

5 18. Start engine and check for leaks at brake line fittings and exhaust connections.
