A requirement of fault-free operation and fulfillment of any rights to claim under limited warranty is that you adhere to the information in the operating instructions. Read the operating instructions before you start operating the unit! The operating instructions contain important information about service and should be kept near the unit. Designated use The MOVITRANS THM10C and THM10E pick-up units are designed for the operation of contactless energy transfer systems for industrial and commercial plants. MOVITRANS THM10CTHM10E may only be operated with the prescribed and suitable adapters, such as MOVITRANS TPM12B. The MOVITRANS THM10C and THM10E pick-ups are used for the mobile elements of an energy transfer system equipped with MOVITRANS. Observe all information on the technical data and the permitted conditions where the unit is operated. Do not start up the unit (take it into operation in the designated fashion) until you have established that the machine complies with the EMC Directive 89/336/EEC and that the conformity of the end product has been determined in accordance with the Machinery Directive 98/37/EEC (with reference to EN 60204). The rules and regulations of the Professional Association (Berufsgenossenschaft, BG), in particular BG rule B11 "Electromagnetic fields", must be observed during installation, startup and operation of systems with contactless energy transfer by induction for use in industrial workplaces. 4 Operating Instructions MOVITRANS THM10C / THM10E Pick-Ups

5 Important Notes 1 Application environment The following uses are prohibited, unless measures are expressly taken to make them possible: In explosion-proof areas In areas exposed to harmful oils, acids, gases, vapors, dust, radiation, etc. Disposal Please follow the current regulations: Dispose of the following materials in accordance with the regulations in force: Electronics scrap (circuit boards) Plastic (housing) Sheet metal Copper etc. Operating Instructions MOVITRANS THM10C / THM10E Pick-Ups 5

6 2 Safety Notes 2 Safety Notes Installation and startup Never install damaged products or take them into operation. Submit a complaint to the shipping company immediately in the event of damage. Installation, startup and service work is to be performed by trained personnel only. They must comply with the accident prevention guidelines and the regulations in force (e.g. EN 60204, VBG 4, DIN-VDE 0100/0113/0160). Follow the specific instructions during installation and startup of the other components! Make sure that preventive measures and protection devices correspond to the applicable regulations (e.g. EN or EN 50178). Required preventive measures: Connect the MOVITRANS THM10E to the vehicle chassis. Only connect or disconnect MOVITRANS THM10C / THM10E from MOVITRANS TPM12B mobile converter when the line conductor is deenergized. Avoid lateral and angular misalignment when installing the pick-up. Avoid distortion when installing the pick-up. Make sure no bending forces act on the pick-up. Best coupling is achieved when the distance x between line cable [4] and THM10C pickup [3] is 19 mm. If the distance x changes, the output voltage and output power will decrease ( Sec. Technical Data"). SEW recommends to use holding plates [2] made of aluminum. Holding plates [2] can only be installed above the THM10C. The holding plates may not be fastened laterally. The space between the pick-up [3] and line cable [4] must always be free of metallic materials. The space around the line cable (b 5 cm) must be free of metallic / ferromagnetic materials [b]. Installation notes SEW recommends that you use the MOVITRANS THM10E flat pick up. Avoid lateral and angular misalignment during installation of the pick-up as this reduces the transmitted power considerably. The distance between the line conductor [4] and the THM10E pick-up [3] must not exceed 20 mm. Holding rails [2] can only be installed above the THM10E. The holding rails may not be attached laterally. The M8 retaining screws [1] must not protrude from the threaded holes. The space between the pick-up [3] and line cable [4] must always be free of metallic materials. 13 Installation and installation notes MOVITRANS THM10E 3 Equipotential bonding THM10E Local equipotential bonding must be established between the individual mobile electrical units so that excessive contact voltage cannot occur in the event of a fault. Ensure high-frequency compatibility when connecting MOVITRANS THM10E and all additional devices to the reference potential of the mobile unit (wide area, metallic contact of the unit housing to the non-coated metallic housing of the mobile unit). To do so, you must establish low-impedance equipotential bonding between the THM10E pick-up and the metallic mounting surface (sheet metal or frame) at one retaining screw of the THM10E by installing a screw connection with a tooth lock washer on one side ( following illustration).
