2 BØRGE MOGENSEN Børge Mogensen was known as the furniture designer who created high-quality furniture at affordable prices for Danish homes. He went on to design some of the most renowned furniture designs of the 1950s and 1960s. His lifelong mission was to create simple and practical furniture for everyone. Appearance was important, but never at the expense of functionality. He disapproved of colleagues who succumbed to the whims of fashion, ignored functionality or used excessively expensive materials. In the same breath, he defiantly brushed off any criticism for only using wood, his preferred material in all its different embodiments. 3 THE SPANISH CHAIR The Spanish Chair is Børge Mogensen s interpretation of a traditional type of chair often found in areas influenced by ancient Islamic culture from Andalusia to northern India. Mogensen drew inspiration for The Spanish Chair from a trip to Spain in He modernised the shape, eliminated the elaborate carvings while retaining the important feature: the broad armrests that give the chair character and provide a practical place to put a glass. The combination of oak and butt leather gives a strong, rustic appearance. 3

4 THE HUNTING CHAIR Designed in 1950, The Hunting Chair was Mogensen's first work with exposed wooden framing and saddle leather. The seat is adjustable with solid brass buckles, and the chair is easy to move around to different locations in the home. 4
