2 ARROW COPTER AC-20 Details of ArrowCopter AC20 Already long before the ArrowCopter saw the light of day we put it through its paces. Using sophisticated Finite Element Analysis running on heavy computing workstations we simulated the highest loads under the worst conditions to make sure nothing breaks when it shouldn t. You will find safety in the sculpted Carbon Fiber / Kevlar seats, or in the outboard fuel tanks. Or in the superior strength of the double Carbon Fiber shell protecting pilot and passenger. Or in the wide stance of the ArrowCopter s main gear. In fact, you won t find a single item which we didn t engineer with uncompromising safety first and foremost in our minds. The technical standard, equipment features as well as optical style clearly aim the ArrowCopter gyroplane at the premium class of ultra- and microlight gyrocopters. It owes much of its outstanding performance to a meticulous four year development phase at FD-Composites GmbH. Countless innovations and features work together to make the ArrowCopter one of the safest gyrocopters available: monocoque design, outboard fuel tanks, double walled passenger compartment, shock absorbing Kevlar seats, and much more. High torsional and flexional stiffness as well as superior crash protection[nbsp]due to use of carbon fiber materials in monocoque construction. Large track width and low center of gravity make the ArrowCopter almost impervious to tilt over. Optimal trade-off between strength and weight of all load carrying cell components thanks to Finite-Element- Modeling (FEM, Finite-Elemente-Method), calculated for 600 kg maximum take-off mass.

3 Single wheel suspension of main and nose gear yield smooth taxiing. Additionally, 20 cm travel in main wheel shock absorbers minimize damage from crash landings. Castering nose gear for straight tracking and increased safety at landings. Differential breaking of main wheels by toe brakes results in easy maneauvering on the ground. Outboard fuel tanks located in the wings prevent from the dangers of fuel stowage inside the passenger compartment. Produced in autoclave production technique, which is unique among the ultralight class of aircraft. PRODUCTION The ArrowCopter s all carbon fiber composite construction is manufactured using the industry renowned facilities of Carbo Tech Composites. Clean room facilities, autoclave curing, laser cutting, CNC machining, ultrasound testing and more are brought to work in order to turn out uncompromising quality. FD-Composites and Carbo Tech Composites are specialised in Carbon Fiber composite design with many years of experience and stellar industry reputation. Combining know-how and expertise of both companies resulted in a worldwide unique level of quality, which lies at the heart of the ArrowCopter s every detail. All composite parts of the ArrowCopter are manufactured by the Carbon Fiber composite specialist Carbo Tech Composites in Salzburg, Austria. After passing quality inspection, the parts are then further assembled and outfitted according to customers specifications by FD-Composites in Amstetten, Austria. Competency in production of the ArrowCopter ISO 9001:2008 certified serial production (prduct and process integrity, availability of spare parts, PLM, etc.) An RFID chip integrated in each ArrowCopter provides access to all manufacturing data such as serial number, lot number, optional equipment, etc. Monocoque cell in Carbon Fiber composite autoclav construction Complete analysis and design of all load carriying components including the passenger cell up to a maximum take-off weight of 600 kg on the basis of the British CAP643 Section T guidelines. Optimized laminating using the resuls of the FEM analysis. The use of Finite-Element Analysis (FEM, Finite-Element-Method) in the construction of all load carrying components enabled us to save weight while simultaneously meeting the stringent standards of the British CAP463 Section T construction guidelines. All forms of the ArrowCopter are layed up with Prepreg laminates in a dedicated clean room environmen. A computer controlled cutter ensures an accurate and uniform fit of the fiber material. After lay-up of the forms, the parts are then introduced into an autoclav where they cure under high pressure and controlled temperature. A pressure-temperature graph ensures high and constant quality of the curing process. Using prepreg laminates is the best way to guarantee the optimal fiber to resin ratio. Through these controlled processes we can guarantee the highest level of quality and strength of all our composite parts. The final construction steps employ techniques such as CNC milling and robot controlled laser cutting. That is how we can be sure to deliver the utmost in precision of each part.

4 Quality control of all parts is an important step for which we employ standards taken from the automobile industry. Before further assembly, parts pass through a quality control system which compares the dimensions specified in the 3D CAD drawing with the actual part using a tactile measurement process, thereby assuring dimensions and tolerances within tight specs. Beyond this, the following measurement and testing systems are also available: Ultrasound measurements Thermographic endoscopy Pressure testing Mobile FARO arm, and others. COMFORT Ultimately, what we tried to achieve is uncompromising harmony. The kind of harmony you experience when you fly an ArrowCopter and you feel that the machine is a natural extension of yourself. Everything is right where it ought to be and works just how you expect it to. That s the hallmark of good design. Approaching the ArrowCopter you already glean its quality. But once you sit in it, you ll be surprised by the high level of comfort you experience. Attention to detail and adherence to ergonomic principles ensures that you will be able to focus exclusively on the important and pleasant aspects of each and every flight. Individually suspended main and nose gears, with a shock absorber travel of 20 cm. Noticeably lower noise level due to a closed canopy as well as an enclosed engine and exhaust system. An open canopy, which is hinged on one side and opens sideways[nbsp]is available as an option. It ensures that the pilot is not exposed to direct wind while still enjoying an open cockpit feeling. Closed cabin and cabin heating afford comfortable cold weather capability even in cold climates. A carfully designed, integrated air circulation system inside the cabin maintains a comfortable cabin climate. Large and roomy cabin with ergonomically formed seats. Integrated stowage compartments. Toe brakes ease handling on the ground. Electronic Flight Information System (EFIS) reduces panel clutter and pilot workload. A complete set of engine data, flight data and moving map GPS system (with 3D terrain data) is available as part of the standard equipment. Two full seats (i.e., feet of passenger are behind the pilot) for pilot and passenger. Pilot seat is adjustable in longitudinal position.

5 PERFORMANCE The ArrowCopter can take you to places you d have trouble getting to in any other comparable aircraft. Sleek aerodynamics and reliable Rotax power paired with a highly efficient innovative composite propeller make traveling at 120 mph a breeze. Just put the pitch adjustable prop in cruise, listen to the muted sound of the fully enclosed engine, adjust the cabin ventilation and temperature to your comfort and watch the landscape speed by, either by looking out the fully enclosed canopy or by monitoring the 3D moving map display on the EFIS. And once you re there, your landing will be smooth and easy thanks to the cushioning effect of the lift provided by the wings that also double as a rugged landing gear with more than 8 inches of shock absorbing travel. Performance is more about brains than brawns. It s comforting to know that the ArrowCopter has both. An aerodynamically optimized cell enables the ArrowCopter to fly more efficiently and more economically. Besides doubling as an ourboard fuel tank, the main gear also functions as stub wings, providing additional lift at cruising speeds (the lift provided is roughly equal to the weight of a full load of fuel). The additional lift provided by the stub wings paired with the aerodynamically optimized overall shape result in unsurpassed performance. Easier flare and softer, safer landings thanks to enhanced ground effect of stub wings. Higher speeds due to tandem seating arrangement. Track width of 246 cm (96 in.) still permits trailering of the ArrowCopter. Toe brakes allow minimal turning radius on the ground All relevant parts are fully enclosed.
