I am not an expert on the Spanish Civil War; these ratings are just one womanʼs opinion. I hope these inspire more accurate research from other fans. Unit Iconography & Rating Notes Unit iconography generally follows the Panzerblitz pattern, with the following adjustments: Infantry, cavalry, and infantry support units use modified NATO symbols in solid black. Infantry defense factors are based on unit size, with certain self-explanatory exceptions. Vehicle units do not have exact silhouettes. These are freehand drawings, usually based on angled photos. Armored vehicles have bracketed defense factors (if fully-armored) or parenthesized ones (if partially armored), to help distinguish them from unarmored vehicles. Armored defense factors are based on frontal armor. Turreted vehicles get 3 factors for being armored, plus 1 factor for every 1 1/3 cm of frontal armor, including slope. Turretless vehicles get 3 factors, plus 1 factor for every 1 cm. Some tanks, anti-tank guns, and light infantry guns may have too generous an AF and too stingy an RF. These include the 37 and 45 weapons. The newly-added units are kept compatible with similar units from Alan Arvoldʼs lists. Infantry & Cavalry Units 18 1 Regular Infantry Full-strength infantry companies had about 179 men, 6 light mortars & 6 light machine guns. At the time of the coup, only the light and mountain units, the Foreign Legion, and the Moroccan units were at full strength. At the time of the coup, most infantry regiments were at their peacetime strengths. Sources: Gee 1990, Mencey. 1 I 2 Asslt Assault Guards Paramilitary forces, including the Assault Guards, Civil Guards, and Carabineros, were organized into small companies. Sources: Gee 1990, Cordery Poplr 1 Popular Army Infantry Full-strength infantry companies had about 142 men and women, 6 light mortars & 6 light machine guns. Units of the ruling factions, notably the Counist Party, could sometimes reach this strength. Sources: Villarroel, Mencey. 2 I 3 Poplr 10 1 Popular Army Infantry Typical infantry companies had about 100 men and women, 2 light mortars & 2 light machine guns. Units of less favored factions, notable the CNT-FAI and POUM almost always remained at this strength. Sources: Orwell, among others.

2 1 I 2 Militia 10 1 Militia Infantry This unit represents 2-3 centuries of militia, for about men and women, with few if any support weapons. The Popular Army units may represent militia with support weapons. The example counter is CNT-FAI militia; other flags denote other factions. 2 I Regular Cavalry Cavalry squadrons had about 200 men & 4 light machine guns. These units have the same closeassault bonus, minelaying abilities, and mine clearance abilities as regular engineers. They may not build bridges. 8 I 6 Machine Gun Company A full-strength regular machine gun company had 16 heavy machine guns. Machine Gun Company A peacetime regular infantry battalionʼs machine gun company, or a full-strength Popular Army machine gun company, had 8 heavy machine guns. These may not close assault without infantry, militia, cavalry, engineers or dynamiteros. These can be shown as mounted 4-I-6 / 1-3 units, like Tatchankas from the Russian Civil War, or as dismounted 4-I-6 / 4-1 units. 3 0-0 OP Observation Post Used like the Panzerblitz Coand Posts. 2 H Infantry Gun (Arellano L-32) This was normally used to equip the heavy weapons companies, instead of the artillery units. Sources: Gee Mountain Gun (Schneider 1908) This was normally used to equip the heavy weapons companies, instead of the artillery units, but it was one of the more coon pieces. Its actual range was about 5 km. Sources: Cordery Field Gun (Schneider 1906) This was the mainstay of the peninsular light artillery and horse artillery at the time of the coup, used in batteries of 4, later 3-4, guns. Its actual range was about 8 1/2 km. It has been rated as direct-fire artillery, but may use indirect fire. Sources: Gee 1990, Cordery Field Gun (Putilov 1902) This was the most coon imported field gun during the Civil War, used in batteries of 3-4 guns. The Russians had replaced this with the 02/30. Its actual range was about 8 1/2 km. It has been rated as direct-fire artillery, but may use indirect fire. Sources: Gee 1996, Cordery H Mountain Howitzer (Schneider 1919) This was used by the Asturian light artillery and the mountain artillery at the time of the coup, in batteries of 4, later 3-4, guns. Its actual range was about 7 3/4 km. It has been rated as direct-fire artillery, but may use indirect fire. Its actual range was about 12 km. It has been rated as direct-fire artillery, but may use indirect fire. Ft-17 [4] 2 Ft-17 (Renault 1917) The Spanish army had two platoons of 5 machinegun-armed Ft-17 tanks each at the time of the coup. 5 5 A 3 T-26 [5] 6 T-26 The Peopleʼs Army deployed T-26 tanks in platoons of 3 T-26 tanks and companies of 10 T-26 tanks. To keep these units compatible with other tank units, these represent half-companies of 5 tanks and should be used in pairs.
