2 Introduction This is a short text about the forces of the Russian empire, its organisation, unit types and equipment. Russia have after the fall of communism and the reign of the false tsar and the civilwar emerged once again. The Russian army are a growing force consisting of older military personell from previous armies and conscripts recruits. Organisation The Russian army is organisated in a territorial and a operational part, the operational part is responsible for Offensive operations over the borders and against rebels in the country, the territorial organisation are responsible for the defence of the Russian territory and have a territorial HQ that also can be given command of the operational units. Military Districts The main Defensive unit is the Militia Brigade consisting of 3 infantry battalions, 1 artillery battalion and a logistics and supply battalion. Thease brigades are formed into Divisions and added a artillery brigade. The divisions are equiped with older but still efficient equipment. They also dont have a own transport capacity for all the troops, so external transport capacity have to be added to move the units faster and longer than possibly than by foot. There is also the mechanized Militia brigade that are slightly more mobile but still intended for use in the own military district.

3 A unit that is in between the Militia and Mechanised division is the Jaeger division, equiped and trained for warfare in arctic and subarctic heavy wooded areas. The main operational unit is the mechanised brigade that is organised into divisions, the mechanised divisions are powerfull and able to drive a offensive by themselfe with own support units and air units. But the most powerfull unit is the armoured unit equipped with tanks and modern selfpropelled artillery, some divisions also have heavy mortar units for destroying encircled units. The biggest operational unit is the Army that is organised of many corps and free divisions, currently Russia have one army but is currently working on setting up one more. The territorial organistation are organised into Corps and its the aim of Russia to have a Militia corp in each Military district. Worth mentioning is the specialist divisions and corps, they are as follows: Air assault corp consists of air assault units that are ment for attack behind the enemy lines, they arent equiped for longer periods of fighting but nead support after a while. Voisko The cossac division is a light and fast unit specialised in recce activities for the corps and army. They are best known for their special permit to wear the traditional uniform and sabers, something only allowed for higher regimental officers in the rest of the army. A special cossas company is part of the Tsars bodyguard. The military districs have their own supply, communications and CAS units. Training and education The different units have a slightly different training, the militia units have a short training of 3 months but have to fill a contract of 1 month of training each year. The Officers have longer training and many are older officers from the regular army. The militia trains to its purpose and mainly train defensive fighting from fixad positions and areas. The Regular army with its Mechanized and Armoured brigades have a longer training of a year, and then 6-12 months depending on type of unit. The soldiers are then hired by the army and sign a contract of 5 years. The soldiers can also after the first training apply to a officers course. To become a member of any of the special divisions a soldier would have to go thru basic training, specialisation an then before he signs a contract apply for a test. 5 Russian doctrine and strategy The Russian strategy have evolved from the mass-assault of the great patriotic war towards the manouver doctrine but with a twist. The Russian army always try to outnumber the enemy with 3-1 and to have many supporting units. If a area, point or house if to heavily defended or hindering strategic movement it is disposed off. The Russian army also always tried to bypass the hinderance and flow into the deepts of the enemy units, the units that are surrounded are broken up into smaller units and then destroyed with artillery and air assets. Strategic movement is made possible with rail and/or airtransport, special road and rail battalions help maintain and build roads were they are neaded. All divisonal brigades also carry bridgebuilding materials. The Russian Navy secures a landingpoint with artillery, air and the naval infantry brigades, after bridge head is secured (often with air assault units landing around 50 km from the beach/port to cut communications and supplylines.) When the bridge head is around 5 km Additional units are landed from the army.
