INTRODUCTION Notes from Trikke staff after using the Trikke Tribred E kit: Dear Trikke CV owner: This is a game changer. Youlovecarving, now see what you can do with a little turbo in your pocket. Your average speed will nearly double. Don t do this unless your brain and body can keep up with the increased rate at which obstacles and challenges will come at you. Or, be sure to keep it in the pedestrian setting of 12 mph. The faster speed setting s pay off is more brain buzz at higher risk. Also more distance without as much work. And the choice to use your CV as a real transportation alternative saving you money and eliminating the release of lots and lots of unnecessary planet warming carbon compounds into the atmosphere. Plus you ll still be getting a nice workout. This is active riding. Continue to carve turns as the motor pulls you along. It s much more fun that way.stay active. Don t just stand there get into it. That s how this vehicle is meant to be ridden. At the same time, please go out of your way to be courteous to your fellow pavement users including car drivers, bikers, scooter riders, pedestrians, etc. Let s set an example. We re a small enough new group, we are creating our culture. Let s be nice. Use the power only when you really need it or use it all the time. It s your choice. It s fun to thrust around without using the motor at all. It s heavy and takes some oomph to get it going, but it keeps momentum well once rolling. It s also fun to keep the throttle on full most of the time and carve all over town. Getting started from a dead stop is a little easier with the motor. That said you have to have your no motor chops down to be the real deal. Down hilling is better with the motor s weight because the front wheel really hugs the road. Be careful to brake earlier due to moreweight iht onboard and more braking distance needed ddto come to astop!!! Uphill is obviously a little easier with the motor. You can just let the motor pull you up most hills, but you will find it more enjoyable to encourage your speed up hills with your own acceleration chops. Charge up the hills! Get a great workout! Please keep your wits and helmets and safety gear about you. Gloves are recommended as well. You ll feel better if you are ready. Eventually you might spill especially if you get too cocky (we speak from experience). We are commuting on this machine. Trikke Tribred. Why not have a blast and get fit while you re getting there? 3

E KIT ASSEMBLY MANUAL 1. 8 2. Remove the existing Trikke CV sticker from the front post. Also, remove the water bottle cage from the front post if you have one installed. 3. Disassemble the brake cables from the brake handle. Align the brake cable adjustment screws (arrow) so that the slot in the screws line up with the slot in the brake handle. This will allow thebrakecabletocomefreeout of the front of the brake handle. Squeeze the brake handle so that the small metal cylinder attached totheendofthebrakecableis visible. Align the brake cable and the metal cylinder with the brake handle slot so that the cable can come free of the brake handle completely. Repeat the above steps to disassemble the other brake cable from the other brake handle. 7

4. Free the brake cables from the cable bracketatthelowerendofthefront post so that the brake cables can be pulledtotherearofthetrikkecv. This will allow installation of the E Kit without interfering with the brake cables. 5. Loosen the two lower 5mm Allen socket bolts of the front wheel fork where the fork attaches to the front post. 6. Press the alignment pin and remove the front wheel assembly. Note: You may want to place the front post stem on a piece of wood or in the plastic Trikke CV packaging block that originally came with the Trikke CV to avoid damaging the Trikke CV or the floor. 8

8. Install the Throttle on the right side of the handlebar. The throttle should slide all the way to the brake handle. Once the throttle is against the brake handle, rotate the throttle until the stop located on the inner face of the throttle is resting against the brake handle. This will align the throttle to the proper position. Insert the plastic throttle sleeve over the handlebar so that the sleeve slides inside the throttle. The sleeve flange will stop the sleeve againstthethrottle. Install the half sized handle grip over the remaining right side of the handlebar. Tighten the 3mm Allen socket bolt located on the underside of thethrottlemakingsuretokeep the throttle aligned as described above. 7. Remove both existing handle grips. Some handle grips require that a phillips head screw be removed prior to removing the handle grip. If this is the case, remember to also remove the cap inside the handlebar so that it does not fall inside the handlebar and rattle around as you ride. Removal of the handle grips requires a lot of effort. You may want to use a hot air blow bo gun to heat the material before removing it. Use extreme caution as this may melt the handle grip material and/or cause a fire. 9. Install the full sized handlegriponthe left side of the handlebar. 9

Place one of the 2 clear alignment stickers 0.5 below the upper brake cable bracket. 11.Place the second 2 clear alignment sticker 0.75 below the lower brake cable bracket. A 12. Install the bag and bracket assembly Option A. Fold the Trikke CV into its closed and locked position. Place the battery pack/controller bag and bracket assembly between the arms of the Trikke CV, but beneath the front post. Align the bag assembly with the half circle brackets holding the front post and the exposed bracket toward the hinge (the bottom when unfolded) of the Trikke CV. Align the brackets with the top of the brackets aligned with the top of the clear alignment stickers. Install two half circle brackets with four 5mm Allen socket bolts to the bag assembly. Make sure to keep the spacing between each side of the bracket the same. This will ensure an even tension for each bolt and will prevent stripping the brackets and bolts. Unfold the Trikke CV to its upright and locked position. Allow the bag assembly to seat by pushing down on the assembly. Make sure to keep the bag assembly centered and aligned with the top edges of the clear alignment stickers. Finishing tightening the Allen socket bolts. 10

13. Install the bag and bracket assembly Option B. This procedure is the same as Option A above except do not fold the Trikke CV before installation. This will require some strength and is possibly a two person installation. B 14. Reassemble the brakes. Feed the brake cables through the spaceslocatedinthefrontcenterof each bracket. Do not set the brake cables in the brake cable brackets on the front post (arrows). Cross the brake cables once behind the post and once more in front of the post. This will ensure the left brake handle will apply the left brake and the same for the right side. Reversethebrakecabledetachment procedure of step 3 above. Note: if there is not enough brake cable visible from the brake cable sleeve, just push the sleeve down the cable until enough brake cable is showing. This is why we do not set the brake cables into the brake cable brackets until later. Set the brake cable sleeves into the brake cable brackets on the front post (arrows). Squeeze the brake handle. There should be space between the brake handle and the handle grip at maximum strength. The adjustment screws located on the brake handle can be used to add or remove tension from the brake line (lower arrow). 11

15. Tape the throttle cable to the brake cable using the three clear cable bundling stickers provided. 16. Unzip the top flap of the bag assembly and feed the throttle cable wires through the hole located at the top front center of the bag assembly. Connect the two throttle cable connecters to the controller wires which are labeled with a throttle tag. 17. Install the 1 clear alignment sticker. Turn the Trikke CV upside down and rest the Trikke CV on its handlebar and foot rests. Remove the serial number sticker located on the backside of the front post near the front wheel assembly. Replace the sticker on the backside of the front post just under the bag assembly bracket. Align the 1 clear alignment sticker with the bottom edge of thefrontpostandwraparound the front post. 12

18. Install the front wheel motor assembly turn limiter bracket. Install the half circle T bracket and half circle bracket with the remaining Allen socket bolts. Align the half circle bracket with the bottom edge of the front post. The half circle T bracket should be on the front side of the Trikke CV with the other bracket on the backside. Make sure to center the brackets so that the T bracket is perfectly aligned with the front side of the front post. 19. Install the front wheel motor assembly. Slide the motor assembly over the steering post. Press in the steering post pin and slide the motor assembly over it until the pin snaps into place. 13

20. Install the front wheel motor assembly wire bundle From the front wheel motor, make sure the wire bundle is behind the front fork. Also make sure the wire bundle will not rub the motor or wheel by adjusting the existing zip tie and wire bundle around the front fork. Allowing a little slack, use one of the zip ties provided to tie the wire bundle to the outside edge of the cambering mechanism. Cut the excess zip tie material. Using the second zip tie, attach thewirebundletotheoutside edge of the lower bag assembly bracket. Cut the excess zip tie material. Open the outer flap and tuck the wire bundle inside. Feed the connecters of the wire bundle through the hole located in the top front center of the bag assembly. 14

21. Connect the Throttle Connect the two pin wire connector from the throttle to the two pin connector from the controller labeled Throttle. Connect the four pin wire connector from the throttle to the four pin connector from the controller labeled Throttle. 22. Connect the motor Connect the three wires from the motor to the same colored individual wires from the controller. Slide the clear rubber sleeve (arrow) that covers the metal connector portion of the wire down the wire to expose the metal. Connect the wires together and slide the clear rubber sleeve back over the connection. This will insulate the connection as well as keep the connection together. Connect the six pin connector from the motor to the six pin connector from the controller labeled Motor. 23. Connect the batteries Connect the black connector from the controller to the black connector from the battery. Note: You may hear a pop sound when the connection is initially made. This is normal. Check the fuse in the small red box attached to the battery cable. Close the top flap of the bag assembly and close the zippers so that the zipper tabs are located at the front center of the bag assembly. Pull the Velcro tab down over the hole in the front center of the bag. 15

22. Install the Trikke Tribred sticker on the front post between the bag assembly brackets. 23. Install the Trikke hybrid 3CV technology badge on the front post above the upper bagassembly bracket (arrow). 24. This concludes your E Kit Installation. 16

USER S GUIDE OPERATION 1. To turn the E Kit on, press the green button on the throttle in for 3 seconds, then release. The battery life indicators on the throttle will illuminate all the way green indicates a full charge. The lights on the throttle are a rough estimate of the battery life. 2. There is a speed limiter switch (arrow) next to the charger plug on the bag assembly. When turned on (on = position, off = O ), the switch will limit the speed of the E Kit to 12mph. When turned off, the top speed of the E Kit itself is 17mph, though the Trikke CV can be accelerated to a faster top speed. Beginners should use the speed governor and limit their top speed to 12mph or less until they are comfortable enough to switch to the faster speed. 3. To power the motor, simply turn the throttle. The throttle is sensitive to the amount it is turned and will increase the power as it isturned further. Use caution when starting from a complete stop and only turn the throttle slightly. This will ensure property traction of the front wheel when power is supplied to it. When already in motion, it is more appropriate to turn the throttle further. Throttle Battery Life Indicators On/Off Button 4. When starting the E Kit from a stop, lean forward and distribute your weight as far forward as possible. This will help to avoid spinning the wheel and wearing them out prematurely. 5. Make sure that the front wheel is pointed straight before applying power to the E Kit. 6. When crossing the street, allow enough time for a slow acceleration. 7. Riders should allow a generous amount of breakingroomroom as a faster top speed requires more room to stop. 8. Riders should avoid riding on wet or flooded terrain. The E Kit can withstand a small amount of moisture, however it is not recommended for riding in wet conditions. In the event the E Kit gets wet, open all the flaps to the bag assembly and place the entire system in a clean dry area to dry the components thoroughly. Do not operate the E Kit with wet components. 9. Riders should avoid jumping, curbs, speed bumps, grass, gravel and sand as these may cause the rider to lose control of the Trikke CV. Possible impacts can damage the motor and battery brackets. 10. When riding up a hill, it is important to assist the motor by carving up the hill. 11.To turnoffthe E Kit,press the greenbuttononthe throttle for 3 seconds. The battery life indicator lights on the throttle will turn off signaling that the E Kit is off. The E Kit should be turned off whennotinusetoavoidaccidentalmovementofthetrikkecv. 17

12. The E Kit will automatically shut off after 5 minutes of inactivity. 13. The E Kit will automatically stop supplying power to the motor if the motor stalls. An example of stalling would be to place the wheel motor against a wall and then turn the throttle. Another example would be stalling while climbing a steep hill without carving. The motor will be unable to turn, even though power is being supplied. This action will cause the electrical components to overheat and fail. It is important to avoid stalling the E Kit. 14. Very high outside temperatures may cause the controller to shut down before the batteries are empty. It is very important to keep the vents to the batteries open to allow maximum cooling to the controller. 15. When the batteries are just about empty, there will be an intermittent pause in the power supplied to the motor. The operator will need to release the throttle and then turn the throttle again to re apply the power. When this happens, there is approximately 1 mile of life left in the batteries. The operator should assist the Trikke CV with the standard Trikke CV carving technique to conserve as much power as possible and head to the nearest charging station. 16. Rider etiquette is very important while operating the Trikke CV with the E Kit. Riders should use courtesy while riding and share the roads and sidewalks on which they ride. Pedestrians always have the right of way. When in traffic, stay to the right and stop carving to avoid causing confusion to the drivers passing by. CHARGING 1. The E Kit should need to charge for no more than 5 hours before its first use, or when fully discharged. 2. To charge the E Kit, first connect the charging unit to the plug located on the backside of the bag assembly near the top. Then plug the charging unit into a normal 110V socket. 3. Whenthebatteriesarecharging, thelightonthechargerwillbered. Oncethebatteriesarefully charged, the light on the charger will turn green. Note that when the E Kit is unplugged from the charger, the light on the charger will be green. 4. The VRLB Lead Acid batteries included in the E Kit should last for 200 Full Cycles. A full cycle is a full discharge and recharge. 5. Good charging practice would be to plug the E Kit into the charger at every opportunity and keep the battery topped off. 6. If the E Kit will be unused for an extended period of time, the E Kit should be topped off once a month. 7. Always unplug the charger by the plug (arrow) and not the wire. 8. It takes 0.3 KW/H to fully charge the discharged batteries. 18

PARKING 1. To park the Trikke CV with the E Kit installed, turn the handlebars all the way to one side and lean the Trikke in the opposite direction. For example, turn the handlebars all the way to the left, then lean the Trikke CV to the right. 2. Anotherpossibility is to leanthe Trikke CVagainsta wall. 3. Alwaystrytofindaledgeforthefrontwheeltorestagainsttoavoidunexpectedmovement due to a slope, etc. 4. When a ledge is unavailable, find a flat surface to minimize unwanted movement. 5. In the event the above methods are not working, lay the Trikke CV down. FOLDING 1. Folding your Trikke Carving Vehicle with the E Kit installed is exactly the same as before. See the Trikke CV Owner s Manual for more information on how to fold your Trikke CV. RANGE 1. The range of the E Kit depends on many things including topography, rider weight, wind, temperature, how much the rider assists, how much throttle the rider applies, and average speed. 2. To maximize the range of the E Kit, use the 12mph speed governor, avoid climbing hills for extended periods of time, assist the Trikke CV as much as possible, and use less throttle. 19

MAINTENANCE E Kit 1. Check Power Pack brackets for alignment, proper torque on the bracket bolts and proper tension in the Velcro straps on the front and bottom of the Power Pack. TIRES 1. Tire pressure should be between psi in the front wheel. 2. Periodically check tires for wear and/or faults. TIRE REPLACEMENT 1. Cut the zip tie that holds the wire connecting the motor to the controller on the front fork. 2. Remove the motor from the fork. 3. To work on the tire, either disconnect the motor cable from the controller and bring the motor assembly to a workbench, or leave the motor connected and bring a chair near the Trikke to place the motor on while the motor is still connected to the E Kit. It is recommended to keep the motor attached to the E Kit to avoid wear on the connectors. Whichever method, use caution to avoid damaging the motor wire. 4. It is recommended to use a nylon tire tool to remove the tire from the motor. The nylon tool will avoid damaging the motor rim and tire. 5. Use soapy water to help the tire removal and tire assembly process. 6. Once the tire is replaced, insert motor back in the fork with the motor cable on the right side making sure to keep the motor cable behind the fork. There are two spacers for each side. The large spacers on the motor axle should be inside the fork. 7. Make sure that the motor axle is pushed firmly into the fork. The axle should be all the way to the top of the fork dropouts. 8. The small locking washers that have a small ledge go outside the fork. These washers help lock the axle to the fork. The ledge should fit inside the fork dropouts. 9. Tighten the nuts firmly with a 19mm wrench. 10. Use a zip tie to fasten the motor cable to the upper arm of the fork, on the right side and behind the fork. BATTERIES 1. The batteries included in the E Kit are12v 9AH Sealed VRLB Lead Acid batteries. 2. There are 3 12V batteries in series equaling a total of 36V. 3. The batteries are spill proof which means that if they get punctured they will not leak and they will continue to function properly, however they will need to be replaced immediately. 4. The batterylife is rated for 200 full cycles. A full cycle is a full discharge and recharge. 5. Battery disposal: Many states have regulations in place requiring some form of battery recycling. To locate a battery recycling facility nearest you, call BATTERY. 20

MOTOR 1. The E Kit motor is a 250W 36V brushless geared hub motor. 2. The motor will freewheel forward. 3. The motor s top speed is 17mph. This means that if the Trikke CV is travelling faster than 17mph, the motor will no longer be assisting you, but rather it will spin freely at the equivalent of 17mph (full throttle).
