2 Greetings for the teams. Dear team/team members, The Rulebook is meant for the complete description of rules and regulations of the event. We informing you to Please read this rule book carefully and be ready with each and every document required. We will try to help you out in every phase of the competition. You can contact our help centre for any kind of help you require, A piece of advice that do print this rule book and use a highlighter for important points. Make a check list and check it regularly. Each and Every Member of the team should read the rule book as there will be quizzes and tests regarding it, and good performers will be awarded. I.a International F-9 (Go-Karting) Championship The purpose of this event is bringing out the world level innovative and creative idea s of all young participate. Undergraduate/Graduate students from different technical/nontechnical streams can participate in this event. The basic outline of the event consists of designing and fabricating a go-kart and then competing with these go-karts in the final event. All the participating teams will have no bars for creativity and innovation with a few restrictions mentioned in the Rule Book. The real essence of the event lies in the sheer engineering practical application and tests in real time. I.b. Organizing Committee The organization KOSHI MOTORS & FABRICATION PVT. LTD. provides a platform to all young participates, To show the talent at world level Go-karting Championship. 8 II. Rules and Authority i. Rules Authority In this event there are several rules and restrictions which are to be followed by each and every team. Organizing Committee is having the full right to change/alter each and every rule as may be necessary and essential with the event. Violation by anyone of the participating member may be liable to be penalized severely, inclusive of and up to debarring of the team from the competition at any stage or withdrawal of award/awards, as well. ii. Rules Validity The rules will be same throughout the event and any amendments will immediately be made known to all the participating teams through s and the same will be uploaded on the website mentioned above. iii. Rules Compliance By registering for this event the team, members of the team as individuals, faculty advisors and other personnel of the college and university agree to comply with, and be bound by, these rules and all rule interpretations or procedures issued or announced by INTERNATIONAL F-9 (GO-KARTING) CHAMPIONSHIP All team members, faculty advisors and other university representatives are required to cooperate with, and follow all instructions from, competition organizers, officials and judges. iv. Right to Impound INTERNATIONAL F-9 (GO-KARTING) CHAMPIONSHIP reserves the right to impound any onsite registered vehicle at any time or at the stage during the competition for inspection and the examination by organizers, officials and technical inspectors. 8

9 I. Eligibility a. Team Requirement The team registering for INTERNATIONAL F-9 (GO-KARTING) CHAMPIONSHIP must have a Team Name, Team Logo, Team Captain and the Faculty advisor. Maximum four teams can register from one College and in case of multiple registrations from a single College, the Team Name, Team Logo and Team Captain must be different but the Faculty Advisor can be same. And also a team can comprise of members from different colleges. Maximum allowed colleges in a team are four. Faculty advisor can be chosen from any of the colleges There cannot be more than 25 members in a team under any circumstances. Eligibility criteria - Eligibility is limited to undergraduate and graduate students to ensure that this event is an college level competition rather than a race, our sole motive still remains the grow up of engineers and encouraging better engineering practices. Individual members of a team participating in this competition must satisfy the following requirements. Team members must be enrolled as degree seeking undergraduate or graduate student in a college or university in any stream like(be/b.tech/b.sc./b.a/b.com/etc.). All those team members who have registered while still being enrolled in a undergraduate or graduate course are eligible to participate in the competition for the team Graduate Team members who have must be pass out 2015 and 2016 batch.. b. Registration Requirements c. i. Team Registration- Online registration will be open 24x7 on our website from 14-oct Once the team has been registered online, the payment must be done within 7 working days from the date of registration [In case of payment failure within the due dates, online registration will be cancelled]. Registration Agreement- By registering in IF9GKC the Team Captain/Team Member/Faculty Advisor/College Management must agree with the rules and regulations. They should certify that all the information provided in the registration documents and online registration forms are 9

10 correct to the best of their knowledge. Also, they accept that team would undertake all the activities without the help of a professional directly or indirectly. In case of violation of rules and regulations specified in this Rule Book, the team is liable for disciplinary actions as per the decision of the organising committee. iii. iv. 11 d. Driver s Requirements- i. Age- Every Team is supposed to have two drivers and both the drivers of the team must be at least 18 years of age. ii. iii. iv. Driver s License- Each driver must have a valid Driver s License (Four Wheeler LMV OR more) issued by the Government of India (Learner s License not allowed). Both drivers must provide a license copy when insisted by Technical Committee Driver s Insurance,-The team driver s must have accidental insurance minimum value 1 lac.. Driver s Safety.- The following are the minimum requirements and restrictions that will be enforced through technical inspection, at any stage of competition. Non compliance if any observed by the inspection/organizing/judging committee members must be corrected and no vehicles without passing the technical inspection would be allowed to participate further in the event. All the parts of Driver s Safety Gear must meet the required rating (specified). No driver would be allowed to drive the vehicle without the complete driver s safety gear in any of the dynamic event. 1. Driver s Suit- A fire resistant one piece suit, made from a minimum of 1- layer that covers the body from the neck down to the ankles and the wrists. The suit must be certified to either one of the following standards and be labelled as such: SFI 3-2A/1 (or higher). FIA Standard Underclothing- It is strongly recommended that all drivers wear fire resistant underclothing (long pants and long sleeve t-shirt) under their approved driving suit. This fire resistant underclothing should be made from an acceptable fire resistant material and should cover the driver s body completely from neck down to ankles and also the wrists. 11

12 Note: If you do not wear fire resistant underclothing, it is strongly recommended that you wear cotton underclothing (t-shirt and long underpants) under your approved driving suit. 3. Helmet- A well-fitting closed face helmet that meets one of the following certifications and is labelled as such - Snell K2000, K2005, K2010, M2000, M2005, M2010, SA2000, SA2005, SA SFI 31.2A, SFI 31.1/ FIA , FIA ISI/BIS rated, Open faced helmets are not allowed. All helmets to be used in the competition must be presented during Technical Inspection where approved helmets will be stickered. The organizer reserves the right to impound all non-approved helmets until the end of the competition. 4.Neck Support- The use of neck support is mandatory. The neck support must be a full circle (360 ) and SFI rated. Horseshoe collars are not allowed. 5. Gloves- Leather gloves with extra foam are acceptable. These both type of gloves are allowed.. 12

13 6. Shoes- Fire resistant shoes made from acceptable fire resistant material, shoes must be certified to the standard and labelled as such.(recommended) SFI 3.3 FIA Note: Flat soul shoes can also be used if the team fails to arrange the shoes as mentioned above. 7. Socks- Fire resistant socks made from acceptable fire resistant material or cotton socks that covers the exposed skin between the driver s suit and the boots/shoes. 8. Balaclava-The team use the Balaclava pure cotton. 13

14 d. Vehicle Requirements- i. Chassis Design Requirements- The vehicle must necessarily have four (4) wheels not in a straight line. The vehicle must have a wheelbase within the range of 107 cm to 142cm The wheelbase is measured from the centre of contact on ground of the front to rear tires with the wheels pointed straight ahead. The mountings and designing of chassis should be such that there should be minimum 2 inches (gap) clearances between the driver and any component of the vehicle in static and dynamic condition hands, torso, thigh etc. Body parts making contact with the parts at normal seating position are excluded from the rule. ii. Chassis Material- The tube/rectangular pipe used in the fabrication of the chassis or the other frames/supports may be seam or seamless. Minimum cross section must be 1 inch (25.4mm), for pipe it will be OD and for rectangular section or square section it will be its minimum height. Material certification is essentially0 required to be produced during the technical inspection. Material should be certified from any of the material testing laboratories for its chemical and mechanical properties, the same report should be presented at the time of inspection and throughout the event. iii. Wheelbase and Wheel Track The wheelbase of the vehicle must be within 107cm to142cm and track width of the vehicle not less than 65% of wheelbase iv. Ground Clearance- With the driver aboard there must be a minimum of 25.4 mm (1 inch) and maximum mm (6 inch) of static ground clearance measured from the lowest point (except tyres) of the vehicle, under the complete vehicle. No compensation (like chain sprocket, brake disc in ground clearance would be entertained). 14

15 v. Jack Points- Not applicable. vi. Toing points- Toing point will may use front and rear bumper or the may separate it with the chassis.by which push or pull bar rod use. vi. Bumpers. 1. Front Bumper- The front bumper must be made of steel tube with minimum OD 20mm and 25.4 OD with wall thickness 1.65mm. Bumpers must be installed in the front of the vehicle such that they cover the tyres protect them from any collision which may occur on the track. The front bumper must be connect to chassis at four point. 2.Rear Bumper- The rear bumper must be made of steel tube with minimum OD 20mm and 25.4 OD with wall thickness 1.65mm. Bumpers must be installed in the front of the vehicle such that they cover the tyres protect them from any collision which may occur on the track. The rear bumper must be connect to chassis at four point. 3.Side Bumper The front bumper must be made of steel tube with minimum OD 20mm and 25.4 OD with wall thickness 1.65mm. Bumpers must be installed in the side of the vehicle such that they cover the tyres protect them from any collision which may occur on the track. The front bumper must be connect to chassis at two point 15

16 . viii. Suspension- Not required. ix. Steering System- The steering system must be able to control (simultaneously) at least two (2) wheels. The steering system must have positive steering stops that prevent the steering linkages from locking up either in RH or LH turning (the inversion of a four-bar linkage at one of the pivots). The stops may be placed on the uprights or on the rack and must prevent the tires from contacting body, or frame members during the track events. Allowable total steering system free play (inclusive of play in all the steering linkages) is limited to 7 degrees, measured at the steering. Wheel. The steering wheel must be mechanically connected to the front wheels, i.e. steer- by-wire or electronic steering is prohibited. x. Braking System- The brake system installed must be capable of stopping the vehicle in a straight line without losing control during the brake test. The vehicle must have hydraulic braking system and the pedal must directly actuate the master cylinder through a rigid link (i.e., cables are not allowed). All brake lines must be securely mounted and not fall below any portion of the vehicle. Electronic braking systems are strictly prohibited. In case of any wheel via disc brake mechanism bleeding ports for disc calliper should be upside to that of piston mechanism of calliper. There should be no leakage from the tandem master cylinder (TMC) or reservoir. xi. Visibility Requirementall the external equipment which are installed to the engine must be visible. 16

17 xii. Fuel Tank and its position- The capacity of the fuel tank can be up to 8 litres in volume. The placement of fuel tank should be such that it maintains a proper distance from the engine and also it should not be above the battery. It must be securely fixed to the chassis and be designed in such a way that neither it nor the fuel pipes (which must be flexible) present any danger of leakage during the event. A quick attachment to the chassis is strongly recommended. The tank shall in no way be shaped to act as an aerodynamic device. The fuel feed system to the engine must be the same as provided by the manufacturer of that engine. xiii. Driver Seat- The seat mounting must be rigid enough to withstand the various forces that the vehicle will undergo while the go-kart is being driven on the track. The driver seat should be at least 2 inches away from the firewall. The Driver s seat must be designed in such a way that it prevents lateral motion of the driver when multidirectional forces act on him when cornering or braking. The seat must not protrude below the lowest plane of the chassis frame, under any condition what-soever. An example of the allowed seat is given below xiv. Front Bodywork- The bodywork of the front part must be designed such that the vehicle number and the team logo may be displayed clearly.if the front body work is provided, the driver egress should be less than 5 seconds. 17

18 xv. Brake Light- The vehicle must be installed with a brake light red in colour which is clearly visible from the rear. If an LED brake light is used, it must be clearly visible in very bright sunlight minimum distance 20 mtr. This light must be mounted between the wheel centreline. All the electrical connections done must be well insulated. xvi. Exhaust System- The exhaust system should be so chosen such that it reduces down the emission of harmful gases from the exhaust. Use of suitable catalytic converter and the mufflers is recommended. The exhaust system must be properly shielded preventing the delicate parts which may get affected if exposed to the heat. The exhaust must be mounted properly to avoid the physical contacts of the viewers or the technical inspectors. Shielding to exhaust pipe with cotton rope, jute rope is strictly prohibited. Team can use metallic porous sheet to cover the exhaust pipes. The shielding of exhaust must be such that it does not cause hindrance in the heat dissipation of exhaust pipe and also shielding guard should not have any direct contact with the exhaust. xvii. Kill Switch- The electrical system must include at least two kill switches. The kill switches must deactivate the engine ignition. The kill switches must NOT deactivate the brake light. Kill switches locations- 1.Cockpit Switch The cockpit switch must be located in the front of the cockpit within easy reach of the driver. The switch may not be mounted on a movable steering wheel assembly. 2.External Switch The external switch must be mounted on the driver s right side of the vehicle the switch must be within easy reach of track workers, the switch must be mounted rigidly, with no sharp edges nearby. 18

19 xviii. Wheels and Tyres- Teams must use standard go-karting tyres. Acceptable tyre size for front is 10x4.5-5(all dimensions in inches) and for rear tyre 11x xix. Lock Nuts- Locking nuts are mandatory to be used everywhere in the vehicle. Failure to fulfil this, no team will get T.I. OK for the vehicle. xx. Bolts- All bolts used in the system must meet metric grade M8.8 or more. No fasteners used should be less than 8.8 hardness. Thread lockers spring washers are prohibited. All fasteners used should have min 2 threads showing past the nut. 19

20 xxi. Fire Extinguisher- Each team must have at least two (2) nos. of 1 kg ABC type fire extinguishers. One present at the pit at all times and one with a team representative accompanying the kart throughout the event. Fire extinguisher should be in proper working condition. It should be accompanied with a sticker or a bill clearly mentioning its expiry date. xxii. Path for Wires and Pipes- No pipelines/wire connections must go under the chassis. It is strictly prohibited. Doing so may lead to disqualification of the team. xxiii. Firewall- Firewall is a boundary which protects the driver from the heatproduced by the engine. So, the firewall must be made up of a suitable material which can solve the purpose. It should be made in such a manner that driver s body parts are not affected by the engine heat at any time during the dynamic/static condition. There should be min 2 inches clearance between the firewall and the engine. 20

Final Vehicle Design- The final design of the vehicle will show the more sub component of full assembly of the kart. 23 e. Vehicle Power Train and Requirement. There is no restriction to be use any type of engine. Engine Type Cooling system Maximum Capacity Type of Transmission Single Cylinder Four Stroke Gasoline Engine Air Cooled 135cc Manual Gearbox/CVT/Centrifugal Clutch Type Engine Tuning- The team can tune engine before the TI ones TI is ok then no any change in the Engine. If caught doing this then the team will a plenty as a 100 point deduction For the team Original bills or the original vehicle registration papers (if vehicle belongs to a team member) or an attested No Objection Certificate from the owner with the original Registration Papers are to be presented during Technical Inspection. Failure to present the same will directly lead to disqualification of the team. Note- for team must be use throttle recoil spring. Power Train Guards All the rotary parts of the transmission system should cover by the power train gurds.if the power train guard is not mounted properly then the no permitted any type of dynamic event. It should be made up of metal sheet. If carbon fibre. Of FRP used with minimum thickness 6mm. Ceconite, and neoprene are unacceptable for use as finger guards. A complete cover around the engine and drive-train is an acceptable shield. 23

24 Engine Registration- The team before start the manufacturing Engine Registration required with the IF9GKC with following document. i. Engine Registration Card ii. No Objection certificate. iii. Original Bill. iv-engine No and Details of Engine. f. Vehicle Identification- Each team will be given a vehicle number, and the vehicle will be known by this number in the whole event. Teams are required to have a team name with an impressive team logo along with the college logo which is to be placed on the vehicle s body. Teams are advised not to place any logos on the front of the vehicle because the vehicle number will be placed on the front of the vehicle. IV. Virtual Round In the virtual round all the team require complete all the documentation of their research and development about his/her kart. In this round there are no elimination round but point of virtual round will be add in the final round event. There are following documents are require in the virtual round. Virtual round will be conduct online. Or according to participate suggestion. 24

25 Vehicle Design Design Report Innovation Report Cost Report Design Validation Plan Gantt Chart a.vehicle Design- Different views of completely assembled design of the vehicle must be presented in this report. Body works other than similar in professional go kart must be justified. b. Design Report- The design report must contain all the necessary details related to the vehicle like analysis, calculations, etc. This report must not exceed 12 pages and it is recommended to provide at least three different views of vehicle drawing with proper dimensions. This can be verified during Final Round. c. DFMEA-Design failure mode effect analysis. All the component which you are design analyse their existence. d. Cost Report- The vehicle must be manufactured in the budget Rs /-. The cost report must include all the calculations and cost of the parts procured and also its machining cost as per market rates. No need of accounting vat and other taxes in the cost report. Cost without vat is expected in the report. e. Design Validation Plan- The design validation plan is the assurance that a product, service, or system meets the needs of the customer and other identified stakeholders. It often involves acceptance and suitability with external customers. All the virtual and real time tests and analysis are to be included in the design validation plan. f.gantt Charts- Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a project. Terminal elements and summary elements comprise the work breakdown structure of the project. This chart is basically the management of the project and distribution of different tasks in the team members with completion deadlines. The Gantt Chart must be attached along with the design report. NOTE- In this round there is no elimination this round refer to complete your documentation before manufacturing. 25

26 V. Vehicle Manufacturing rules. i. Pipe Bending- For the team if the pipe bending setup is arranged in your college, otherwise you may allow to bend pipe outside. ii. Pipe Welding-You are are allow to use any type of welding like TIG,MIG, Arc. Welding. iii. Pipe Joint- All pipe joint should be joint properly with the main chassis frame. 26

27 iv. Seat belt-seat belt are setup proper way. v. No sharp edges- There is no sharp edge at end point or at the joints. VI. Final Round a. Static event. i. Technical Inspection- The objective of Technical Inspection is to ensure safety and security of the driver with the vehicle. In this round, vehicle technical aspects will be crosschecked with the rulebook and pre-ti sheet of the teams. ii. Cost report- All the team manufacture your kart with limit of cost Rs /- at the time of TI verify the cost report with the real vehicle. Who have minimum cost get rewarded. iii. Business plan, marketing and sales presentation - The objective of this round is to manufacture and sale 1000 units/annum with a best business & marketing strategy. 27

28 iv. Design evaluation-the objective of this round is to verify design and manufacturing of the vehicle along with the technical knowledge of the team as per the specifications provided in their submitted report. The vehicle which covers a minimum of 20 laps in the final endurance round will only be eligible for Best Design Award. v. Weight Test- As soon as the Team successfully completes their T.I. then the entire weight of the vehicle without driver will be measured and recorded, The Vehicle having weighing more than 160 Kgs will not be allowed to participate in any of the Dynamic Rounds. The vehicle which covers a minimum of 20 laps in the final endurance round will only be eligible for Light Weight Award. Weight test score=points (W H W Y ) / (W H -WL) Where: WH = Weight of heaviest vehicle. WY = Weight of your vehicle. WL = Weight of lightest vehicle. vi. Performance check- At the time of technical inspection kart will be checked. By the technical inspector. vii.. Innovation- The innovation done in the vehicle in Virtual Round will be discussed with the team and its working will be examined by the technical inspectors in the respective paddock of the teams. Team needs to present innovation report at the time of explaining the innovation. The innovation should be working and not just the concept. 28

29 b. Dynamic and Endurance Events. i. Brake Test : For participation in further rounds of dynamic event it is mandatory to clear the brake test, in this teams have to run their vehicle for a flat run of 35m and will have to stop this vehicle in specified range, during the end of 35 m flat run vehicle speed must be at least 25 kmph. There will be no marks for this and each vehicle will be given to 3 attempts to pass brake test after failing in previous two chances. ii. Acceleration Test Acceleration determines the time it takes the vehicle to accelerate along 35m flat course. Vehicle will have 3 attempts of acceleration runs. The fastest run in 3 attempts will be the recorded acceleration time. It is permissible for one driver to make all the acceleration runs. Procedure Each team may make (3) attempts with different or same drivers. Scoring will be based on the better of the 3 attempts. Timing may be done using either electronic systems or stop watches. Scoring will be done according to formula given below: Acceleration score = points x [(Tlongest Tyours)/ (Tlongest Tshortest)] 29

30 iii. Skid Pad test The objective of the skid-pad event is to measure the vehicle s cornering ability on a flat surface while making a constant-radius turn. Each team will get 2 attempts. Skid Pad Layout. There will be two (2) pairs of concentric circles in a figure of eight pattern. The centres of these circles will be 20m apart. The inner circles will be 16 m in diameter, and the outer circles will be m in diameter. The driving path will be the 2.5 m (9.84 feet) path between the inner and outer circles. The vehicles will enter and exit through gates on a 2.5 m wide path that is tangential to the circles where they meet. The line between the centres of the circles defines the start/stop line. A lap is defined as travelling around one (1) of the circle from the start/stop line and returning to the start/stop line. Cones down or Out- A penalty of 2 seconds will be added to the time for every cone that is knocked down or out (including gate cones). Skid Pad score =point x [(Tlongest Tyours)/ (Tlongest iv. Autocross Test The objective of the autocross event is to evaluate the vehicle's manoeuvrability and handling qualities on a tight course without the hindrance of competing vehicles. The autocross course will combine the performance features of acceleration, braking, and cornering into one event. The vehicle will be staged such that the front wheels are 2 m behind the starting line. The timer starts only after the vehicle crosses the start line. Cones or tyres Down Or Out- Three (3) seconds per cone, including any after the finish line. Autocross Score =points x [(Tlongest Tyours)/ (Tlongest Tshortest)] 30

31 v. Endurance- This round is to check the performance of the vehicle on road for continuous duration of 1 hours. Guidelines- If any vehicle gets stopped in between the track, nearby volunteers will help to move the vehicle aside of the track after which driver can again restart the vehicle with necessary adjustments, no other team member will be allowed inside the track. Procedure for Drivers change (optional): In order to make a drivers change 1 st driver has to enter into driver change area/lane and should halt his vehicle at the prescribed position (which will be mentioned at the time of final event) without killing/stopping the engine.as soon as the 1 st driver comes out of the vehicle 2 nd diver can step in but he/she can only leave the driver change area after the completion of mandatory checks for helmet and spilling of fuel. Drivers can change as many times as they need but no time bonus will be allowed for drivers change, it will be a part of the race time. Organizing team is not at all responsible for any accidents of the vehicles during the complete event, and the teams has no right to claim or blame the organizers for such cases. Endurance Score = points [(Lc)/ (Hc)] Where- Lc= Number of laps covered by your vehicle. Hc= Highest number of laps covered by any vehicle. The dynamic events are scored to determine how well a Kart performs. Each dynamic event has specified minimum acceptable performance levels that are reflected in the scoring equations. 35 VII. Rules Conducting the Event a. Behaviour i. Unsportsmanlike Conduct- In the event of unsportsmanlike conduct, the team will receive a warning from an official. A second violation will result in expulsion of the team from the competition. Failure of a team member to follow an instruction or command directed specifically to that team or team member will result in a twenty five (50) point penalty. ii. Arguments with Officials- Argument with, or disobedience to, any official may result in the team being eliminated from the competition. All members of the team may be immediately escorted from the grounds. iii. Smoking and Illegal Material- Alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons or other illegal material are prohibited on the event site during the competition. This rule will be in effect during the entire competition. Any violation of this rule by a team member will cause the expulsion of the entire team. This applies to both team members and faculty advisors. Any use of drugs, or the use of alcohol by an underage individual, will be reported to the local authorities for prosecution. b. Vehicle Related i. Vehicle Movement- Vehicles may not move under their own power anywhere but on the practice or competition tracks. Off track vehicles must be pushed at a normal walking pace by means of Push Bar/members pushing the vehicle, with all four (4) wheels on the ground, a team member sitting in the cockpit to steer and brake and with another team member walking beside the car. During performance events when the excitement is high, it is particularly important that the car be moved at a slow pace in the pits. Violation of this rule will result directly into the 50 points penalty. ii. List of Prefabricated Parts- All the teams have permission to buy the readymade/fabricated parts but use of these parts in excess may lead to the disqualification of the vehicle or penalty of 200 points. List of the prefabricated parts- Brake drum, disc, calliper and brake holding assembly, master cylinder, Steering gear box, Steering column, Steering wheel, Wheel rims & Tyres, tie rod ends, Engine, Fuel tank & exhaust system. c. Penalties Violation of rules points/ disqualification. Misbehaviour/arguments with officials or volunteers points/ disqualification. Tampering with TI sticker or making restricted changes in vehicle after TI 100 points/disqualification. 35
