2 INSTALLATION OF THE KYB REAR SHOCK Available for Ducati Scrambler models: Café Racer, Sixty2, Icon, Classic and Full Throttle This manual concerns the installation of the aftermarket KYB Rear Shock unit for the Ducati Scrambler Café Racer, Sixty2, Icon, Classic and Full Throttle models. It describes the replacement of the rear shock unit. Product code: SCRAMBLER-RCU-1 Duration: ± 60 minutes For additional information about the installation or adjustment of this KYB Rear Shock unit, please contact the nearest authorized KYB dealer. Removal of the stock rear shock unit 1. Remove the seat 2. Remove the 2 screws from the side fairing. 3. Remove the screw from the side fairing. 3 4.

3 Removal of the stock rear shock unit 1. Remove the seat 2. Remove the 2 screws from the side fairing. 3. Remove the screw from the side fairing Pull aside the fairing to fit a wrench onto the nut. Warning: Do not remove the suspension bolt if the rear shock is still supporting the bike s weight. 5. Remove the nut. 6. Remove the shift lever bolt. 7. Remove the shift lever from the shift rod. Note: A marking can be made on the shift rod to indicate the shift lever position when reinstalling the shift lever.

Warning: Do not proceed until the weight on the rear axle and rear shock is removed. 10.

4 Removal of the stock rear shock unit 8. Remove the 3 screws holding the footpeg support. 9. Rotate aside the footpeg support to make the lower shock bolt accessible. Warning: Do not proceed until the weight on the rear axle and rear shock is removed. 10. Remove the lower shock bolt. 11. Remove the upper shock bolt. 12. Remove the stock rear shock unit. 4

5 Installation of the KYB rear shock unit 1. Place the KYB rear shock unit in the motorcycle. Note: Make sure the rebound adjuster screw is facing upwards so that it is accesible when the rear shock is installed. 2. Screw in the lower shock bolt. Tighten to 42Nm. 3. Screw in the upper shock bolt and nut. Tighten to 42Nm. 4. Install the footpeg support. 5. Screw in the footpeg support bolts. Tighten to 36Nm. 6. Screw in the bolt holding the exhaust support. 5

6 Installation of the KYB rear shock unit 7. Install the shift lever onto the shift lever rod. 8. Screw in the screw holding the side fairing. 9. Screw in the 2 screws holding the side fairing. 10. Install the seat. 6

7 Caution: Make sure you don t overtighten the rebound adjuster screw. When the resistance of the screw increases, you need to return it to the last click. 11. Turn the rebound adjuster screw fully in (direction H). 12. Unscrew the rebound adjuster 10 clicks (direction S ). 7

8 ADJUSTMENT GUIDELINES Adjustment options Preload The spring preload can be adjusted by loosening the lock nut and turning the preload nut. Rebound The rebound adjuster (tension) completely turned in (clockwise), is position 0 (maximum damping/ slowest movement). The rebound adjuster has a range of clicks, the adjusted position is always counted from the fully turned in position. It is recommended to make steps of 2 or 3 clicks in case you want to change the rebound damping, fine-tuning the rebound can be done per 1 click. Caution: Make sure you don t overtighten the rebound adjuster screw. When the resistance of the screw increases, you need to return it to the last click. 8

9 ADJUSTMENT GUIDELINES Adjustment guide Note that for suspension setup there is no setup that will work for everybody and for every condition. Damping characteristics will always be a compromise of different settings. Preload: Preload affects the ride height and available suspension travel under braking and accelerating. In case the rear end feels low the preload can be increased. When riding with extra luggage or a passenger, consider increasing the preload. Rebound: The rebound damping controls how fast your rear shock extends after being compressed. Too much rebound will keep the suspension compressed after absorbing a bump, not enough rebound will make the rear feel loose. A correct rebound setting will provide more feedback and traction. 9
