Page: 3 of 18 IMPORTANT PRODUCT SAFETY Please review these important safety warnings, cautions and notes: WARNING Always shut generator off before any fueling or maintenance procedures. WARNING Never position the refueling door on the same side of the generator as the exhaust muffler. Spilled gasoline can result in fire. WARNING Never block or cover the generator exhaust muffler in any way. GenTent canopy must be installed above generator exhaust muffler. Install GenTent Electrical aprons such that they cannot block exhaust in any way. Keep the GenTent canopy at least 6 inches away from direct contact with the exhaust. WARNING Always install included washer between the knob and the clamp base AND between the bolt head and clamp base. Tightening the knob without using the washer VOIDS the WARRANTY as it risks breakage. WARNING Never use the GenTent on a generator whose muffler is openly exposed at the top of the generator. These generators are disqualified and VOID the WARRANTY of the GenTent. WARNING Never use the GenTent on a generator in a moving vehicle. CAUTION Over tightening clamps should be avoided. Two turns after the knob seats to the washer/clamp is enough. If you notice the mouth of the clamp pulling away from the frame, the clamping strength has been reduced and the knob should be loosened. CAUTION Always grasp fiberglass rods firmly during installation to avoid the whipping motion that can occur when a bent fiberglass rod is mistakenly released. CAUTION Avoid using your portable generator in hurricane force winds above 70mph. NOTE Should generator handle cause significant stretching of the elastic straps when extended, it is advisable to release the elastics straps on the handle side of the generator before extending generator handles. NOTE Should GenTent cover block pull starter, it is advisable to release the elastic straps on the pull starter side and temporarily move GenTent canopy out of the way. NOTE When using GenTent during snow storms, it is recommended to periodically brush away any accumulation that blocks the top vent.

Please see separate instructions for these items. Frame extension or adaptation, if required, must be completed prior to installing the GenTent.
Page: 6 of 18 Installation Overview The GenTent installs in three easy steps***: Clamp it: Install 4 clamps and set the telescoping rod length. Frame it: Install frame rod to the center connector, then into the correct hole in the telescoping rod and repeat. Cover it: Slide the GenTent canopy over the frame and secure by sliding the elastic straps over and behind the clamp telescoping rod. Once the GenTent is installed, it can be left in place during generator storage or easily removed and stored separately. Should you wish to store the generator with the GenTent attached, we recommend releasing the elastic straps to keep them fresh and ready. ***Note: In some cases frame adaptation is required to create a mounting point for the GenTent clamps. Should your kit include frame adapter(s) please follow the instructions page 14 or separately in your package. Frame adaptation is required when: One Corner needs to be adapted when: - A muffler heat shield or other panel is connected to a frame member that otherwise blocks the GenTent clamp from attaching directly to the proper location. Four Corners need to be adapted when: - The portable generator uses a square tubular frame that must be adapted to the round openings of the GenTent clamps. - The portable generator is a very small frame and requires length and width extension (see Clamp Adjustment tables on page 9) Special Frame Configurations Exist: - When the frame does not provide 4 cornered mounting points such as: Note: In any of these special cases a special frame kit and addendum is included in the respective special product bundle (or will need to be ordered separately) o Ridgid RD series generators (except certain 5700W models) which do not have vertical frame members at the front of the generator o Generac GP15000/GP17500 where the fixed handles block the canopy o Certain other odd shaped frames such as the Briggs and Troy- Bilt 01925
Page: 7 of 18 Install GenTent Clamps on Generator Frame 1) Determine whether the Rubber Sleeves are required The GenTent Clamp kit includes 4 rubber sleeve adapters meant for use on frame diameters less than 1.5. If you do not know the diameter of your frame, wrap a slit of paper or string around the frame tube, marking where the beginning and end cross. Lay it on the tool to determine if the rubber sleeves should be used. 2) Assemble Clamp parts Note: Be sure to use washers between the knob and clamp body as well as between the bolt and the clamp body. - Slide telescoping rods into clamp bodies. - Install set pins through clamp bodies and telescoping rods - Install washer on bolt and bolt through one end and into clamp - Loosely install washer and self-locking knob onto carriage bolt 3) Install Clamp on Generator Frame (or Frame Adapter) Position the top edge for the clamp at the lower of these two locations: (1) 9 below where the gas tank meets the frame, or (2) Directly below the electrical panel Note: The goal is for the bottom of the main canopy to be at or slightly below where the tank connects to the frame; this way water can t get on the tank and trickle toward the outlets. Further, the top of the clamp should be located under the bottom of the lowest electrical outlet -- the electrical protection skirt will cover at least to the top of the clamp. -For frames less than 1.5 : slide rubber sleeve over frame member. Preferably position the rubber sleeve opening to face toward clamp opening (fig. 3-A). Tip: For 1.5 frames, use the sticky back rubber pads that may have come in your kit, or contact GenTent for a set of rubber pads. Alternatively cut any rubber 1/8 or less in thickness to fit between the frame and clamp ( such as an old bicycle tire tube).
Page: 8 of 18 - Push clamp opening straight onto frame (fig. 3-A). The clamp will pop over the frame. If rubber sleeve used, slide clamp up and over (fig. 3-B). Do not over extend the mouth of the clamp! - Position clamp diagonally from sides of the generator frame (fig. 3-C); - Tighten knob, centered on washer until clamp is firmly in place. This usually requires only 2 full turns once the knob/washer seat to the clamp body. Clamp strength is reduced by over-tightening as the clamp mouth pulls away from the frame. - Repeat procedure on remaining three sides; position clamps at the same height. Fig. 3-A Fig. 3-B Fig. 3-C

Use the inside frame rod hole for setting 0 and the outside frame rod hole for settings 1-4. (b) SMALL indicates that the use of a Four corner frame extension kit is required. The GenTent will be too loose on the frame otherwise.
Page: 11 of 18 Install GenTent Frame on the GenTent Clamps - Position Central Connector with centered vent rod up (fig. 5-A). - Position Central Connector so that short side and long side align with generator short and long sides, respectively. Note: Each frame rod goes into the Central Connector hole first and then into the corresponding clamp hole - Insert a fiberglass frame rod into Central Connector hole until it stops (fig. 5-A) - Insert other end of the fiberglass rod fully into the correct clamp hole of the corresponding clamp (Fig. 5-B) - Insert second fiberglass rod fully into the opposite hole in the Central Connector - Grasping the end of this fiberglass rod, bend toward the opposite side clamp and insert fully into the correct hole (fig. 5-B) CAUTION: Hold rod with two hands as shown; Fiberglass rod will be under tension, do not release! - Repeat for final two fiberglass rods (fig. 5-C). - Recheck clamps; they should be firmly in place and may exhibit a slight upward lean. Fig. 5-A Fig. 5-B Fig. 5-C
Page: 12 of 18 Secure GenTent Canopy over GenTent Frame - Position GenTent canopy over the frame. Be certain that the fueling door is not on the same side as the generator exhaust (fig. 6-A). - Slide GenTent canopy over the frame so that all four corners are generally equal and level (fig. 6-A). - Center GenTent canopy such that Vent Rod is centered under the top cap (fig. 6-A). - Slide one corner elastic over the corresponding clamp telescoping rod and set it under the clamp body, behind the set pin (fig. 6-B). - Repeat on opposite corner, then on the remaining two corners. Recheck and adjust canopy if necessary. - Adjust clamps left to right as necessary so that Cover seams generally match the frame rods. - Recheck clamps; they should be firmly in place and may exhibit a slight upward lean. Fig. 6-A Fig. 6-B
Page: 13 of 18 Select and Install Electrical apron - If your electrical outlets are on the short side of the generator, select the short Electrical apron; otherwise select the long Electrical apron. Only use one skirt! - Flip the canopy over flap up from corner to corner on the side that is over the electrical outlets (fig. 6-C). - The left and ride sides of the Electrical apron are angled upward slightly as compared to the main body of the skirt. The angle starts about 6 inches from either side and this corresponds to the respective corner of the GenTent. Press either corner on first (fig. 6-C), then wrap the 6-inch section onto the adjacent side of the electrical panel and press firmly. Now press the main skirt body over the electrical panel to the other corner, and then wrap that edge around the adjacent side and press firmly in place. - Flip the over flap down and over the Electrical apron (fig. 6-D). Fig. 6-C Fig. 6-D Note: The intent of the Electrical apron is to cover the electrical outlets in the front and about 6 around the adjacent sides. Do not cover other parts of your generator with the Electrical aprons, especially the exhaust area!
Page: 14 of 18 Adapt the Frame (if needed) Your portable generator model may have a square tubular frame, be very small and require some lengthening and/or widening, or have a muffler heat shield or other panel connected to one of the frame members that blocks the GenTent clamp from directly connecting to the frame on one corner. In the case that your portable generator is in this category, or if you purchased one of our universal fit GenTent bundles, there will be between one (1) and four (4) GTU Frame Adapters in your package. Each GTU Frame Adapter includes: GTU adapter this is a black molded part that incorporates a squared angle with a round mounting area. 2 #12 Sheet metal screws Note: You will need a drill and a 5/32 drill bit The GTU installs in these easy steps for each GTU Adapter required: Locate and mark: where the GTU will be installed. Drill: Two holes for mounting the GTU. Mount: Screw the GTU in place Once the GTUs are installed, follow the main GenTent installation instructions from page 6. Locate the GTU on the generator frame: The top screw hole of the GTU should be located either: (a) 9 below where the gas tank meets the frame, OR (b) 1/2 above the bottom of the lowest electrical outlet on the electrical panel, Whichever location is lower on the generator frame. The bottom edge of the main canopy should to be at or slightly below where the tank connects to the frame so water can t get on the tank and trickle toward the outlets. The electrical protection skirt will cover to the top of the clamp which should be below the lowest electrical outlet. Zip ties can be used for temporary mounting to find the correct location.
Page: 15 of 18 Fig. 8-A Fig. 8-B Fig. 8-C Fig. 8-D Mark the GTU screw location on the generator frame: - Position GTU against the frame member at the outside corner at the measured location (Fig. 8-A and 8-D). - Using the drill and the 5/32 drill bit or sheet metal screw, scratch a mark on the generator frame through the screw holes on the GTU (top and bottom). Note: drill one screw hole on the right side of the GTU and the other on the left side. Select top left/bottom right or top right/bottom left based on which gives the most clearance for the drill and screw operations. Drill and Mount GTU: - Drill two pilot holes, using the 5/32 drill bit, at the locations previously scratched/marked (Fig. A) - Using 5/16 nut driver, or flat blade screwdriver (nut driver recommended), screw GTU to frame (Fig. B) GenTent Clamp Installation notes: - Install a GenTent rubber adapter onto the GTU before installing the GenTent clamp (Fig. 8-E) - Set the GenTent clamp rod one step in versus other clamps that are attached directly to the generator frame (for example, if your normal clamp pin setting is 2, set the clamp pin on the GTU side to 1) - See page 9 for clamp pin setting adjustment guide Fig. 8-E Fig. 8-F
Page: 16 of 18 Important GenTent Usage Tips Clear Vinyl Electrical aprons GenTent 20k and (Optional) GenTent 10k Omni Fit Apron The clear vinyl skirt for the GenTent 10k and the GenTent 20k Electrical aprons provide a window to gauges during operation and can be stacked together for double height (Fig. 9-A) by connecting the top of one skirt to the bottom of another skirt. Use this as needed for the skirts to completely cover the electrical outlets. Note: The intent of the Electrical apron is to cover the electrical outlets in the front and about 6 around the adjacent sides. Do not cover the exhaust area! The GenTent 10k Omniskirt is the length of the long Electrical apron and fits either the long side (with 6 inch wrap) or short side (with longer wraparound). When used on a short side, the Omniskirt can be centered (leaving 12 wrap on each side) or offset (6 wrap on one side and 24 wrap on the other). This particularly useful for smaller generators where the GenTent has a deep overhang. Starting with 6 from the skirt edge, press the skirt to the corner (fig. 6-C), then wrap the 6 inch section onto the adjacent side of the electrical panel and press firmly. Now press the main skirt body over the electrical panel to the other corner, and then wrap that edge around the adjacent side and press firmly Fig. 9-A into place. Proper Door Sealing Tip The GenTent StormBracer door wraps around the adjacent sides of the GenTent much like the skirts, forming a brace against storms. Each time you close the door, the Velcro must be wrapped around the side and pressed firmly back in place. If this is not done, holes may exist between the pieces of Velcro which can allow water to seep in. In practice, the best way to achieve this is to close the door, then follow this procedure: - Align the door properly so that the side Velcro and lower Velcro are aligned as closely as possible and are touching - Then starting at the top corner of the door pinch canopy around the frame rods and slide your hand to the bottom while pinching. - Repeat on the other side - Check the door sides to see if you can see any gaps in the Velcro sealing. Should there be any gaps, repeat the pinching procedure. Note: Pull the door down and connect the bottom Velcro first, then use the pinch & slide technique above to secure the sides. The bottom edge should cover the under-flap stitching!
