Several times a year, our triad team of Marketing, Design and Engineering gathers to propose and discuss possibilities for accessories (we also look at what worked and didn t work the previous seasons). The team has deep roots in snowmobiles of course, but also ATVs, roadsters, watercraft, road and dirt motorcycles, automobiles, and more. We also include the vehicle teams, as well. It s this diversity that enables us to consider so many creative ideas. The team is constantly absorbing trends, concepts, technologies, irritants and more by going to shows, cruising online forums, talking to dealers. But most importantly, riding. Our passion drives our success. Developing accessories for your Ski-Doo snowmobile is a thorough, well-thought-out process that starts at the same time a new platform is developed. The process delivers a final product with perfect integration and same quality fit and finish as the rest of your snowmobile. Evaluation We always come out of these idea generation meetings excited and with a long, long list of possibilities. But now we have to narrow it down. We look at past market successes, future trends, game-changing ideas, development time and costs, the potential market, the competitive landscape and more. Some items are greenlit, others put on the shelf, and of course, some end up in the dust bin. Sometimes we even debate on whether an item should be standard on vehicles or an accessory. When debuting a new platform, we always prioritize items that are first-year must-haves, like skid plates, alternate windshields and storage. We also push to add some innovative or revolutionary solutions. And we look to addressing things consumers have said could be better. Other items are put on a timeline for introduction at a later date. The designs all come from the same CAD files for a perfect fit; the items can be made with the same materials and suppliers and color codes; all the testing protocols are in place. Plus, it makes installation so easy! Sleds come from the factory with holes already perfectly placed or marked for LinQ cleats, skid plates, glove box extensions, 1+1 seats and side panel vents. On REV-XM and REV-XS sleds, the headlight and hood are even shaped to accept the LED Auxiliary Light. From design, prototypes are built with the latest technologies in rapid prototyping. The key here is to just evaluate the idea. After modifications are made, we move to a second round of prototypes to get a finished look, fit and feel. Wiring harnesses or special fasteners are designed, then it s back into the field for validation. Now it s time for rigorous durability and weather simulation testing before approval to go to market. I've loved fishing ever since I was a kid, so when I quit farming, fishing was a career choice that came quite naturally. You could say a hobby turned into a profession, and I've been on this path for almost two decades. I fish for mostly perch and pike, and whitefish during the winter, on two large reservoir lakes, Lokka and Porttipahta. The area is located in Sodankylä, in Finnish Lapland, over 62 mi / 100 km north of the Arctic Circle. somewhat of a Ski-Doo ambassador, and now quite many of my acquaintances have gotten themselves a Skandic. How important is the Skandic to your job? You simply couldn't do this job without a proper sled. I've had my Skandic for two years now, and it has 4,970 mi / 8,000 km on it, all from riding on ice. The lakes are frozen from the beginning of November until the end of April. This year, in just two months, I have logged 1,600 kilometers. Did You Know? Three or four days a week, I will go to the lake around 9 am, and return around 3 or 4 pm. But my working day is far from over I still have the gutting and filleting to do until late in the evening. Why did you choose the Skandic WT? My previous sled which was NOT a BRP sled started acting up on the lake, and I called a friend of mine to help me out. He arrived on his Skandic, and I asked to try it. I was sold immediately and knew for sure that this would be my next sled. What do you especially like about it? The Ski-Doo Skandic is made especially for work use. The Synchromesh transmission makes it possible to ride very slowly when necessary. The open tunnel does not gather snow. What has convinced me most has been the operational reliability of the sled: even in weather around -13 F / -25 C, it starts so easily. The machine must have torque and power, which is needed when there's water and slush on the ice making it really difficult to get forward. The Rotax 600 ACE engine doesn't smoke and has excellent fuel economy. The fuel consumption is so low that sometimes I almost forget the sled even needs refueling! After acquiring the Skandic, I have become What Ski-Doo/Brp accessories have you added to your Skandic? The most important is the winch. I'm on the lake by myself, so I have to be able to pull the sled out if it gets stuck. In winter in Lapland, it is dark even during the day, so effective extra LED lights are necessary. Why did you choose Ski-Doo/BRP accessories? I can rely on them even in the harsh arctic conditions. I've always thought that the less money you have, the more important it is to spend it on quality! What was the toughest day you had out fishing? Why? There have been plenty of those, like one spring day, when I was forced to make 0.2 mi / 300 meter long trail by shoveling icy slush to the side. I had my wife with me, and since that day she's preferred staying home. The Skandic is my thirteenth sled and my first Ski-Doo. I have to say that with my previous sleds, I got into difficult situations quite often, but not even once since I got my Skandic. What is the best day out fishing like? The best are the beautiful spring days, when the snow is glistening with sunshine. Fishing gives you a great adrenaline rush anyway, but in those kinds of days, it feels especially great. And of course, catching a lot of fish really makes my day!

But most trail riders know that icy conditions can be part of any ride, from the parking lot of your favorite pit stop to a well-used trail into and out of a trailhead. Maintaining control in those situations can be easy with a little help from studs and carbide ski runners. And one important key to sled control is balancing the amount of traction you have at the front with carbide runners and at the track with studs. The carbide ski runners serve two functions: providing long life for plastic skis and better steering/traction in hard pack and icy conditions. Without studs, in an icy corner, the front will track precisely, but the rear can slide, making the rider uncomfortable. Studs balance the precision of the front with grip in the back for confidence and control. Start with the FRONT carbides Choose how much bite you want up front first. If you want really positive turning, Executive Carbides with 8" / 20 cm of 60 turning carbide are a good choice. Options for more or less turning carbide are available, too, depending on your needs. Some experimenting might be useful, but the end result will be worth it. Stud your TRACK Using studs in your track provides you with better control and confidence in those slippery spots and really balances ski runner carbides. Your Ski-Doo snowmobile s track is pre-marked with the right number and location for studs that would balance nicely with the Executive Carbides for most riders (84 studs for a 120" / 305 cm track; 96 studs for a 137" / 348 cm track). Does it matter which studs YOU use on YOUR Ski-Doo SNOWMOBILE? Yes. Most new Ski-Doo trail sleds built on the REV-X platform use the RipSaw Lite track, which is a single-ply design to make it lighter and more responsive. This unique construction means the studs and backer plates need to be specially designed to grip the track effectively. The Woody s 286 Phantom stud and backer kits available through BRP are the only studs that have been tested by BRP and proven to provide the performance and durability required for use with this track design. Just INSTALL the studs is THAT all there is TO it? You also need to make sure that the proper tunnel protectors are installed on your snowmobile. On most Ski-Doo sleds, it s a very simple operation to slide the original short protectors out, and slide the new taller protectors back into the channels of your heat exchangers. Be sure to consult your dealer for the proper protector height to prevent damage. Is my TRACK still WARRANTIED if studs are INSTALLED? Because the 286 Phantom studs and backer plates grip the track in a unique way and hold the assembly solidly, your limited warranty is maintained vif the studs are installed properly on the pre-marked locations with a manufacturing defect.
