3 1. Summary The document describes the Power Supply System (PSS) of IS46/PS33 co-located IMS arrays in Zalesovo, Russian Federation. 2. Terminology CRF Central Recording Facility; PSS Power Supply System, low-voltage part (220 VAC / 24&12 VDC); SPD Surge Protective Device; Station IS46 infrasound and PS33 seismic co-located IMS arrays; 3. Remote elements power supply system The power supply system for the remote elements consists of 10 kv AC overhead line to each array element, step-down transformers (10 kv to 220 AC and 220 AC to 20 AC), located on the last pole of the 10 kv line at each array element, rectifiers and battery chargers, back-up batteries and DC distribution boxes inside the equipment vaults. The remote elements PSS consist of: 10 kv overhead power transmission line; 10 /0.2 kv step-down transformer at each array element (except B4/H4 array elements, sharing one transformer); 220 VAC power transmission lines; 220/20 VAC step-down transformer at each array element; 20 VAC power transmission lines; 20 VAC/12 VDC power supply units, at each array element; 12 VDC distribution system, including DC filters, at each array element; Back-up batteries; The main parts of the PSS are described below. The diagrams of the PSS are shown in Figures 1 and 2. The step-down transformers, surge protective devices and manual switches are located at the last pole of the 10 kv overhead power line. The rest of the equipment is installed inside the equipment vaults kv power transmission line The line is an IT 3-phase 3-conductor line (without the neutral conductor). The part of the line going to the array elements has only 2 phase conductors out of three. The phases are split at the CRF (see Figure 1 for details). The total length of the line from the CRF sub-station is 11.5 km. Page 3 of 11

4 3.2 10/0.2 kv Step-down transformers Two types of 10/0.2 kv transformers (TR3 in the Figure 1) are used at the array elements: oil-cooled OM-0.63/10 UKhL1 and OM-1.25/10 71U1. The capacity of transformers, installed at particular array elements, is unknown, since the access to the 10 kv installation is restricted to authorized personnel of electrical company only. The main technical data of the transformers are as follows: OM-0.63/10 UKhL1 Nominal frequency 50 Hz 50 Hz OM-1.25/10 71U1 Nominal power 0.63 kva 1.25 kva Nominal voltage at primary winding 10 kv 10 kv Nominal voltage at secondary winding kv kv Nominal current at primary winding A A Nominal current at secondary winding 2.74 A 5.44 A The a 1 (N conductor) low-voltage output of the transformers has to be grounded at the transformer, but at least at two array elements this output is not connected to the ground VAC power transmission lines The 220 VAC power is transmitted from the 10kV/0.2 kv transformers to 220 V/20 V transformers via two separate 4 mm 2 aluminium wires. The length of the transmission lines vary from 6 to 100 m (at the array elements H4 and B4). There are no automatic circuit breakers or surge protection devices in the 220 VAC line. No protective ground is used; the neutral conductor is not grounded. The power can be disconnected from 220/20 V transformers by a manual switch Q1 (Fig. 1) / 20 V step-down transformers The transformers (TR4, Fig. 1) are installed on the last pole of the power transmission lines. Each installation consists of two transformers V.U. EMME, 200 VA, 220/18 V mod. 120, installed in parallel. Note, that the transformers do not have sufficient power for maximum consumption of H1 array element (470 VA) VAC power transmission lines The lines consist of 3 x 4 mm 2 copper unshielded cables, laid in steel pipes between the step-down transformers and equipment vaults. The neutral conductor is not grounded, the PE conductor is not connected at the moment to ground at the transformer side, but grounded at the equipment vault. There are no automatic circuit breakers or surge protection devices in the 220 VAC line VAC/12 VDC power supply units The power supply units consist of two separate blocks, AC/DC converter and charger. The blocks are shown in the Figure XX. The units are not available on the market anymore. Manual and specification sheets for the units are not available. Page 4 of 11

5 3.7 Other The DC part of the power supply system is done according to the certification documentation and is standard for seismic and infrasound installations. Back-up batteries are 2 x BAE 6V OPz 200 type, and have a capacity to maintain the equipment for at leats 3 days (2 days for H1). 4. CRF power supply system The power supply system at the CRF is a 3-phase TN-C-S system, designed and built according to Russian and international standards. The system is shown in Figure 2. The CRF building has three independent power supply lines (two from 10 kv lines, and one from emergency diesel generator). Note, that none of incoming and outgoing cables are protected by surge protective devices. Page 5 of 11
