4 INTRODUCTION The Red Rooster ATEX / IECEx wireless load cell is approved for use in Zones & for Gas and also Zones & for dust. ATEX coding - IECEx coding - Ex II GD Ex ib IIC T4 Gb Ex ib IIIC T35 C Db This intrinsically safe wireless load cell is part of the RRI-T range of wireless load cells developed over many years by Red Rooster to meet the increasing requirements of our customers. Ideal for use in the offshore industry, engineering and chemical industries and wherever accurate measurements are required in a hazardous area. The load cells range from 5 tonne to 500 tonne and are manufactured from high strength low weight Duralloy. All load cells are proof loaded to 50% of the rated capacity with a minimum factor of safety of 5:. The load cell and the handset has IP67 protection against water and dust. The handset has an easily accessible battery compartment and the batteries on the link are accessed by remving a panel with 4 x M6 socket head cap screws. Load cells come complete with a robust carry case up to 50 tonne and a case for the handset over 50 tonne. The handset can be changed to indicate Tonne and LBS. 4

5 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.0 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SAFE USE OF LOAD CELLS Instructions for the safe use of RRI-T-ATEX Load Cells and Displays The information in this leaflet should be passed to the user of the equipment. The contents of this section are designed for the guidance of personnel using Load Links. LOAD CELL CHECKS WHEN IN USE Ensure the serial number, capacity, calibration date and the Ex rating are easily read and match the calibration report. Ensure that the load cell / rigging gear is of an equal or greater capacity that the load being applied. Ensure that the rigging gear fits correctly into the link. Ensure that the load runs through the centre of the link. Ensure that the operator will be able to read the load on the load cell display when needed. Ensure that the load cell works correctly before lifting the load. Read the manual before use. The load must be applied in a linear manner. Do not apply a shock or twisting load to the load link. Do not leave in the sun. Cover from direct sunlight when not in use. Do not drop or apply a mechanical blow to the load link or display unit. Do not immerse either the load link or display unit in any fluids. Avoid use for 5-0 minutes after moving between areas of different temperatures. The device is sealed to IP67 standard The use of chemicals on the load cell should be avoided. Be aware of external influences on the load cell such as ambient temperature, wind, rain, chemicals and coming in contact with moving objects. SAFE OPERATION Test run the equipment prior to application of a load and ensure that the equipment, including its control and safety devices are functioning correctly. Ensure that only authorised personnel operate this equipment. Do not exceed the stated safe working load / capacity. Ensure that the load is securely supported by certified lifting gear (slings and shackles) with an equal or higher safe working load in the configuration used and that the load to be lifted cannot escape. Stand clear of the load when lifting or lowering, and ensure that the point which you are standing is safe and secure and within range of the load cell output. Ensure that other personnel cannot enter the immediate area where the lift is taking place. Never leave a suspended load unattended. If it is not possible to site yourself in a position where you can see the load at all stages, appoint a banksman to cover the area which you cannot see and establish a reliable method of communication (verbal or hand signals) before starting the lift. If you suspect that the equipment is defective or is developing a fault, stop the lifting operation immediately. Make the area safe by returning the load to a rest position, but if this is not possible the area should be cordoned off, and the advice of you Superior or Safety Officer sought. Do not use if damaged or if you know the load cell has been overloaded. Batteries must be correctly fitted and the battery compartment cover must be securely closed. ONLY CHANGE BATTERIES IN A SAFE AREA 5

6 Instructions specific to hazardous area installations (in accordance with EN/IEC :0 clause 30) The following instructions relevant to safe use in a hazardous area apply to equipment covered by certificate numbers IECEx SIR X and Sira 7ATEX37X.. The certification marking is as follows: The Durablack label is manufactured from anodised aluminium with a Durablack coating. The label is self-adhesive.. The equipment may be used in zones & with flammable gases and vapours with apparatus groups IIA, IIB & IIC and with temperature classes T, T, T3, andt4. 3. The equipment may be used in zones & with flammable dusts, fibres and flyings in groups IIIA, IIIB and IIIC, with a layer auto-ignition temperature of not less than 75 K above the maximum surface temperature marked in the dust coding. 4. The equipment is only certified for use in ambient temperatures in the range -0ºC to +40ºC and should not be used outside this range 5. Installation shall be carried out in accordance with the applicable code of practice by suitably-trained personnel 6. There are no special checking or maintenance conditions other than a periodic check. 7. With regard to explosion safety, it is not necessary to check for correct operation. 8. The equipment contains no user-replaceable parts and is not intended to be repaired by the user. Repair of the equipment is to be carried out by the manufacturer, or their approved agents, in accordance with the applicable code of practice. 9. Repair of this equipment shall be carried out in accordance with the applicable code of practice 0. If the equipment is likely to come into contact with aggressive substances, e.g. acidic liquids or gases that may attack metals or solvents that may affect polymeric materials, then it is the responsibility of the user to take suitable precautions that prevent it from being adversely affected thus ensuring that the type of protection is not compromised. 6

7 . The certificate number has an X suffix which indicates that special conditions of installation and use apply. Those installing or inspecting this equipment must have access to the contents of the certificate or these instructions. The conditions listed in the certificate are reproduced below: i) Use only the Energizer Ultimate AA size, primary lithium cells, Type L9, component certified under certificate no Baseefa 4ATEX007U. Additional information A. A copy of the certificates listed above are available. B. See manual for operating and maintenance instructions. C. Where applicable, the address of the importer or repairer should be specified. D. On being put into service, the equipment must be accompanied by a translation of the instructions in the language or languages of the country in which the equipment is to be used and by the instructions in the original language. 7

8 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 3.0 SPECIFICATION Display enclosure: Splash Proof (IP67) Operating time: 54hrs depending on battery condition and charge Operating Range: Up to 500 Metres (depending on local conditions) SWITCH ON LOAD CELL: Press the push button on the front of the cell. The push button should be in the inward position when switched on. POWER ON / OFF THE DISPLAY: Press the power key to turn the display on. A long press will power the handheld on and off. Hold the power key until the display shows BUSY then release the key. A quick press will toggle the backlight on and off when in manual backlight mode NEXT KEY: If the display has been setup to read more than one load cell this button can be used to switch between the cells. A short press will step to the next transmitter, before the load is shown a prompt will appear which can either be the load cell serial number or a User defined name. A long press of the next key will show the serial number or User defined name of the load cell currently connected to the display. TO TARE THE DISPLAY: Tare key. A short press will toggle between gross and zeroed net mode. i.e. If the display shows gross then pressing the key will zero the display. Pressing the key when in net mode will return the display to gross mode. The Gross and Nett modes are indicated as described below. Gross and Nett states are retained through power off. Long Press - When in net mode will briefly display the Gross value but remain in net mode. G - The display is showing Gross weight. NET - The display is showing Net weight STANDBY MODE: To put the link in to stand-by mode (without switching the load cell off) press and hold the POWER key on the display, the display will show BUSY it will take a few seconds for the load cell to switch into standby mode, once this has happened the display will switch itself off. To start using the equipment again press the POWER key, the display will show BUSY It may take a few seconds until the display picks up the signal and starts normal weighing. BATTERIES: The load cell and Display are both powered by AA Batteries. You must use ENERGIZER AA LITHIUM L9 type. The display and load cell both use batteries each. FITTING BATTERIES: On the load cell 4 x M6 cap screws need to be removed before removing the battery cover. The battery compartment cover on the handset is accessed by removing x philips head screws ALL BATTERIES MUST BE CHANGED IN A SAFE AREA. 8

13 ERROR MESSAGES 6.0 SIG LOW: The radio signal form the transmitter module is low. The module is still functioning but the limit of range may be near. Communications may start to deteriorate when this warning is shown. Until the display shows the communications are still OK and the display can be relied on for accuracy. BATT LOW: The batteries in the handheld are low and will need to be replaced. REMOTE ERROR: The transmitter module has an error that the handset does not recognise. REMOTE BATT LOW: The batteries in the load cell are low and will need replaced. ERROR : The transmitter module has a strain gauge input and is in shunt calibration mode. An external module has placed the transmitter module in Shunt Calibration mode so rather than display a misleading reading this error is displayed instead. Modules such as the X4-SA support this error type. ERROR : Input integrity error. The transmitter module has found a problem with the input. There may be open or short circuits. Rather than display a misleading reading this error is displayed instead. Only certain transmitter modules support this error such as the X4-SA. OVERLOAD: The overload limit set by the user has been exceeded. IF THESE PROBLEMS STILL PERSIST, CALL RED ROOSTER IMEDIATELY NOTE:. Always test the equipment before assembling in to a lifting configuration.. Always switch the load cell and display ON before applying a load. 3. The load cell display cannot be tested without first being attached to its matching load cell. CERTIFICATION 7.0 Red Rooster ATEX load cells are supplied with an EU declaration of conformity, IECEx certificate of conformity, calibration certificate, data sheet and a user manual. The calibration certificate is valid for months. After this we recommend the load cell is returned to Red Rooster or an approved calibration company. Red Rooster ATEX wireless load cells come with a month waranty. See Red Rooster Lifting Ltd standard conditions of sale for more information. 3

14 INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS 8.0 The Wireless Load Cell will only remain certified and approved if it is inspected and maintained in accordance with these instructions and the relevant standards. For intrinsically safe equipment this is covered in table of IEC INSPECTION GRADES: The standard identifies 3 different grades of inspections for the use of Ex equipment. Visual Close Detailed VISUAL An inspection before use which identifies, without the use of access tools those defects such as damage or missing parts which is apparent to the eye. A visual inspection does not require the de-energising of the equipment. CLOSE The inspection covers the visual inspection and in addition covers defects such as loose screws or covers only apparent with the use of access tools. (Probably done while changing batteries) Both the visual and the close inspection can be carried out by the user of the equipment after reading this manual. DETAILED The inspection covers the visual and close examination and in addition inspects all seals, electronic parts and conformity with the Ex certificate. This inspection does require the de-energising of the unit. For hand held equipment a Periodic inspection is required, which must be carried out at a maximum interval of Year. This must be done by the manufacturer of the product who has the requisite knowledge of the equipment and can confirm conformity to the Ex certification. (This can be carried out during the yearly calibration of the Wireless load Cell) REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION For the Close and Detailed inspection the documentation covering the unit should be available giving the Zone classification and the ATEX / IECEx equipment group, gas or dust groups and temperature class. Also any special installation conditions (X) CALIBRATION 9.0 Calibration must be carried out in accordance with BS EN ISO 7500-:004 and the procedure is to conform to BS EN ISO 376: 0. Calibration is accessed using a keypad routine and code (refer to manufacturer); if this is not done correctly it will corrupt the unit. All repairs must follow our procedures and codes of practice for ATEX / IECEx wireless load cells. 4

15 WASTE ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REGULATIONS.0 The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations No 33 as amended by the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Amendment) Regulations 03 ( the WEEE Regulations ) implement the majority of the provisions of the European Parliament and Council Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment ( the WEEE Directive ) and the subsequent European Parliament and Council Directive 3 that amended the WEEE Directive. All Electronic and Electrical Equipment (EEE) placed onto the market from January, 007 must be marked with this symbol to indicate that it is covered by the WEEE Directive, the provisions of which require that producers or manufacturers of EEE become liable to pay for take-back treatment and recycling of end of life equipment (WEEE): Red Rooster Lifting Ltd is committed to meeting the requirements of the European Union (EU) Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.
