To th is end, the Ministry of Roa d Transport and Highw ays (MoRTH) has c onstituted a permanent A utomotive Industry Standard Co mmittee (AISC) vide order no. RT-11028/11/97-M VL dated September 15, T he Standards prepared by AISC w ill be approved by the permanent CM VR Technical Stan ding Committee (CTSC) afte r appr oval, The Automotive Research Association of India, (ARAI), Pune, being the secretariat of the AIS Committee, has published this Standard. For better dissemination of this information, ARAI may publish this document on their website. 4 Electric Power Train Vehicles - Measurement of Electrical Energy Consumption 1.0 SCOPE This stand ard spec ifies the method f or measurement of el ectrical energy consumption ex pressed in Wh/k m of Electric Po wer Train Vehicles. 2.0 TERMINOLOGY Refer Annexure E of AIS 049 for the definitions. 3.0 VEHICLE PREPARATION 3.1 Condition of the vehicle The vehicle tyres shall be inflated to the pressure specified by the vehicle manufacturer w hen ty res are a t th e a mbient t emperature. The viscosity o f t he oi ls for t he mechanical moving parts sh all conform t o the specifications of the vehicle manufacturer. Th e lighting, light signaling and auxiliary devices shall be off, except those r equired fo r testing and usual day time operation of the vehicle. 3.2 All energy storage systems available for other than traction purpose (electric, hy draulic, pneu matic, etc.) shall b e charged up to their maximum level specified by the manufacturer. 3.3 If the REE SS are operated a bove the a mbient te mperature, the operator shal l follow th e proce dure reco mmended b y the vehicle manufacturer in order to keep the temperature of the REESS in the normal operating range. The manufacturer s re presentative shall b e i n a posi tion to attest that the th ermal management system of the REESS is ne ither disabled nor reduced. The vehicle must have undergone at least 300 km during the seven days before the test with those REE SS that are installed in the test vehicle 4 / 9

5 3.4 Operation mode All the tests are conducted at a temperature of between 20 C and 30 C. The test method includes the four following steps: (a) Initial charge of the REESS; (b) Application of 36 cycles of IDC (of 108 s duration each) or 2 cycles of modified IDC (of 1220 s duration each) as applicable (refer para or ) (c) Charging the REESS; (d) Calculation of the electric energy consumption. Between the steps, if t he ve hicle shall m ove, it is pu shed t o the following test area (without regenerative recharging). 3.5 Initial charge of the REESS Charging the REESS consists of the following procedures. NOTE: Initial charge of the REESS applies to the first charge of the REES S, a t the r eception of the vehicle. I n case of several combined tes ts or measurements, carried out consecutively, the first charge carried out shall be an initial charge of the REESS and th e fol lowing m ay be done in accordance with th e normal overnight charge procedure Discharge of the REESS The pro cedure starts with the discharg e of the batte ry of th e vehicle while driving (on the test track, on a chassis dynamometer etc.) at a steady speed of 70% 5% of the maximum thirty minutes speed of the vehicle. Stopping the discharge occurs: a) when the vehicle is not able to run at 65 % of the maximum thirty minutes speed. b) or when an indication to stop th e vehicle is g iven to th e driver by the standard on-board instrumentation c) or after covering the distance of 100 km Application of a normal overnight charge The REESS shall be charged according to the following procedure Normal overnight charge procedure The charge is carried out a) with the on-board charger, if fitted b) with an external charger recommended by the manufacturer Using the charging pattern prescribed for normal charging, 5 / 9

6 c) in an ambient temperature comprised between 20 C and 30 C The proc edure ex cludes al l ty pe of s pecial charges tha t could be automatically or m anually initiate d l ike, for instan ce, the equalization charges or the s ervicing ch arges. The vehicle manufacturer shall declare th at during the tes t, a special c harge procedure has not occurred End of charge criteria The end of charge criteria corresponds to a c harging time of 12 h except if a clear ind ication is g iven to the driver by the standard instrumentation that the RES S is not yet fu lly charged or a s specified by the manufacturer. Claimed battery capacity (Wh) Mains power supply (W) 4.0 Fully charged REESS REESS having been charged according to overnight charge procedure until the end of charge criteria. 5.0 TEST PROCEDURE 5.1 Test Sequence The driving cycle shall be the Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) as given in Annexure-II of CMVR, for al l vehicles other than 4-whee led vehicles with maximum speed exceeding 80 km/h The driving c ycle shall be P art-i of the modified Indian d riving cycle as given in Annexure-IV B of CMVR for 4-wheeled vehicles with maximum speed exceeding 80 km/h In cases where the vehicle does not reach the required acceleration during driving, the accelerator control shall remain fully activated until the reference curve has been reached again. 5.2 Power setting of the chassis dynamometer The pro cedure pres cribed in th e document Mo RTH/TAP/CMVR- 115/116 shall be adopted. Starting with in 4 h from t o, 36 c ycles of IDC (of 108 s duration each) or 2 cycles of modified IDC (of 1220 s duration each) as app licable (refer p ara or abov e) are run. At the end, the covered distance (D) in km is recorded Charge of the REESS: The vehicle shall be connected to the mains within 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Driving Cycle. The vehicle shall be charged according to nor mal overnight charge procedu re (Refe r clause above). The energy measurement equipment, placed between the mains so cket and the v ehicle charger, measures th e charge energy E delivered from the mains as well as its duration. Charging is stopped after 24 h from the previous end of charging time t o. NOTE In case of an y power di sruptions du ring charging, the 24 h period shall be exceeded according to the d isruption dura tion. Th e maximum total Power disruption of 30 minutes duration is allowed 7 / 9

8 irrespective of the number of failures. Validity of the charge shall be discussed b etween the au thorized Test A gencyand the vehicle manufacturer Electric Energy Consumption Calculation Energy E in Wh and charging time measurements shall be recorded in the test report. The electric energy consumption is defined by the formula : C = E / D Where C is expressed in Wh/km and rounded off t o the near est whole number, E is Wh and D is the distance covered during the test in km Test Results The result of the e lectric energy consumption shall be expressed in Watt - hour per kilometer (Wh/km) rounded off to the nearest whole number. 6.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS The details of te chnical sp ecification, approvals of ch specification shall be as per para 6.0 of AIS-049. anges i n 8 / 9
