His father, Lord Shiva wanted his two sons, Kartikeya the elder one and Ganesh the younger one to get married. He put a condition that the one who will complete the trip around the earth first, will be the winner and he will marry first. Kartikeya, being head of army of Gods was physically strong and fit. Moreover he was equipped with his speedy vehicle of peacock. He immediately marched ahead. Whereas Ganesha, with his huge stomach, bulky body and small vehicle of mouse found it as herculean task. He applied his sharp brain and deep knowledge and found out that taking a round around one s parents is as creditable as taking a trip around the earth. He worshiped his parents, took a round around them and won the race. Thus in spite of all the negativities at his end as compared with his competitor, Lord Ganesh won the race due to the smart work. 3 TECHNO-TALK Title : Selection of Motor for Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Let the required torque = 75 kgm, and required speed = 2300 rpm Calculate the power capacity required as, kw = (Torque X Speed) / 974 = (75 X 2300) / 974 = 177 kw (1) From the motor manufacturer s data sheet select the motor with kw capacity more than 177 kw and rated torque more than 75 kgm, from manufacturer's catalogue, Table-1 the motor 1LAO 317-4YA can be selected. The motor specifications are : 270 HP, 200 kw, 4 pole Rated Torque = 131 kgm (2) However this torque is at base speed. We have to calculate torque at 2300 rpm. Table Rev / Min. 4 Pole, 50Hz. Now we have to verify that this motor satisfies the requirements of 75 kgm torque at 2300 rpm. Maximum permissible torque = 139 / 1.5 (as per general standard practice) = 93 kgm, which is more than the required torque of 75 kgm (4) Torque at 2300 rpm, from the given kw of the motor, (kw x 974) / RPM (200 x 974) / 2300 = 85 kgm (5) Hence the torque calculated as per this equation also is more than the required torque of 75 kgm. 5 AMTECH POWER VISION AMTECH POWER SOLUTION Amtech replaced Analog Excitation System with Dual Channel Digital Excitation System Amtech Power Ltd., has recently provided retrofit solution for Synchronous Generator for Hydro power application. The previous installation was old analog type excitation system which was converted to latest technology dual channel digital excitation and control system. 6 PRODUCT OVERVIEW FEEDER TABLE & ACFC AUTOMATION The new generation of control and monitoring system, developed by Amtech Electronics (India) Ltd, integrates the operation of Feeder table & ACFC (Auto Cane Feeding Control) Automation by using variable frequency drive and Automation system with instrumentation for controlling and monitoring. Cane Preparation require automation of feeder table, cane carrier, knife & mill operation. Raw canes are unloaded on feeder table through can unloader. Level sensor senses the level of cane accumulated. Control system control the speed of feeder table, cane carrier 1 and 2 based on the Chute level, feeder table level and cutter load. The canes are thoroughly cleaned and cut into small pieces. These cane pieces are dropped over a continuous belt of steel plates called the cane carrier, moving over roller chains. From the cane carrier, these are conveyed to a crusher fitted with a set of revolving knives, and cut into very small pieces. These small pieces in the form of a compact blanket are passed through two roller crushers and four mills.
