2 In the last years trucks and batteries in leasing and rental business, particularly with long run time warranties, increased continuously. Although the battery is one of the most important components of forklift trucks, very little information is available from the battery. Existing battery monitoring systems often are expensive or not easy to use. Consequently these systems are used rarely in extreme applications only. The BatMon Electronic Battery Controller (EBC) has been developed in order to eliminate the information deficit around traction batteries. The developer took also care of the price structure of the EBC. Investment and running costs are very low which enables operators of forklift fleats, leasing companies or manufacturer of batteries to equip every battery with a monitoring system. The black box battery was yesterday!

3 BatMon EBC allows the user to control the use of batteries, in particular for service analysis purposes. It is thus an important aid to economical use of the vehicle fleet. BatMon EBC provides accounting information for use in contract management. When BatMon EBC is used in the whole fleet, the recorded data may be processed for statistical purposes so that individual use may be optimised. The operation conditions of the battery are getting transparent and comprehensible. This valuable information leads to an detailed understanding of how your trucks and batteries are used day by day.

4 The BatMon EBC can be mounted easily on any kind of traction battery - directly to a REMA Euro connector 80 or 160 or to every battery with our adapter the BatMon ALLROUNDER. The assembly is very simple, without programming and special tools. The mechanical design is very compact and well adapted to constant use under tough operational conditions on the battery. The BatMon EBC receives, stores and transmits important operational data and conditions of the battery. The data transmission via IR ensures a secure and interference free communication with the COMMUNICATOR and the PC/Laptop.

6 The BatMon Electronic Battery Controller supplies many information about your traction batteries. Some Examples: How often and when was the battery completely charged? When and how often were charge cycles interrupted or opportunity charges occured? Did deep discharges arise and when exactly was that (date/time of day)? How long is the battery in operation and how long will it be probably still in service? Are technical difficulties with the battery possibly due to an inappropriate operation? Is a consultation of the customer meaningful for the optimization of the logistic? When is the battery installed and which special type of battery is it exactly (electronic specification plate)? How is the current battery voltage in non-operated state or under load, are there indications to possible defects or maintenance need? Is the vehicle optimally assigned and the battery ideally adjusted? What would you like to know about your battery?

7 The EBC stores and transmits important operational data and conditions of the battery. The events are recognized by the EBC and stored with date and time (event chronology). Every event is logged and counted by the EBC and can be read out via Infrared with a handy read out device, the BatMon COMMUNICATOR. After that, the data can be viewed and analysed with an easy to use software tool running on your PC or laptop.

9 Installation and Setting up the EBC 1. Separate the connector from power. 2. Make a note in which direction the code stick is mounted in the connector. 3. Remove the code stick from the battery connector. 4. Remove the top cover of the battery connector. 5. Press the ebc unit (EBC80 / EBC160) into the battery connector. 6. Press the code stick into the battery connector. 7. Status LED starts to blink. 8. Start the Set Up by using the Infrared Reader before operating the EBC unit. 9
