1 EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger impressed by Mennekes charging couplers On 7 th April 2011 EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger visited the Mennekes booth at the MobiliTec Trade Fair in Hanover. Managing Director Volker Lazzaro explained to him the advantages and characteristics of the plugs and sockets developed by Mennekes for electric mobility. In accordance with a worldwide standardisation only three systems are approved for electric vehicle charging connections worldwide. In order to be able to charge the drive battery in all locations without difficulty, thus guaranteeing our international mobility, countries and/or regions must select one of the three plug and socket systems permitted by the norm. The EU Commission, which Oettinger and his energy department are part of, closely accompanies the decision on the standard for a plug and socket system within the member countries of the European Union. The characteristics of the solution developed by innovation leader Mennekes has already convinced the 16 European car manufacturers organised in the ACEA, as well as European electric utilities and network operators. The key associations BdEW, VDA, VDE and ZVEI have compared the internationally applicable solutions for charging couplers. The result: the Mennekes draft is the only suitable solution for Europe. Therefore, they recommend it as the European standard. Günther Oettinger was impressed by the integrated approach of the Mennekes charging couplers labelled Type 2.
