Foreword Thank you for choosing the EPIC VICTORY S. The EPIC VICTORY S is a semi-scale model with rivets, metal plate joints, and is a brand name product >Made in Germany<. The CFRP strut belts give the wings a stability that is unique among foam models The efficient air supply unit lowers power consumption in flight by about 3%. The model has very good slow-flight and aerobatic characteristics. The battery is easy to change thanks to battery compartment on the back of the fuselage and makes the model very suitable for everyday use and easy to handle. A conscious decision was made to leave the impeller and motor out of the kit so that you could design the plane to suit your individual taste using existing propulsion units and RC components. For propulsion, you can use impellers whose size and performance are comparable to those recommended by us. Before installing and starting the impeller, you should read the instructions completely. Symbols and their meaning This symbol indicates risks of injury when operating an impeller, which the user must aware of! 4 Warning and safety information Never reach into the running rotor and operate the impeller while holding it in your hand; this leads to hand injuries. The impeller can easily get out of control due to the rotational power of the rotor. Never hold objects / foreign objects in the running rotor, and make sure that no objects / foreign objects can get into the rotating rotor. If this happens, the sudden imbalance of the impeller can severely damage the model. In the vicinity of persons, the flying parts can lead to the severest injuries. Never stand in front of the impeller. Improper assembly or unforeseen circumstances can cause the rotor to separate from the motor shaft. If there are any unusual noises, stop the impeller. The impeller must be firmly attached and the access channel smooth. Do not aim the impeller at persons or animals; never test the impeller while holding it in your hand. Never stand in front of the impeller. Unforeseen circumstances can cause the rotor to separate from the motor shaft. In the vicinity of persons, the flying parts can lead to the severest injuries. Do not disassemble the combination motor + rotor + shaft + spinner; otherwise the product can not reach the technical index specified by the factory, or it can lead to injury. Warning! Operating the model under the influence of medication, alcohol, drugs, et cetera is forbidden. The operator of the model must be in full possession of his or her physical and mental faculties. Before starting a model aircraft, you must inform yourself of the legal requirements, because a model aircraft is an aircraft and is subject to the applicable laws. You must comply with all laws. Observe the laws of the respective states/countries. Before you first attempt to fly the model, it is essential to carefully read all the operating and assembly instructions. You alone are responsible for the safe operation of your RC model aircraft. The model is suitable for persons 16 years and older; persons under 16 years old should be permitted to build and operate this model only with instruction and supervision by an adult who is aware of the situations and possible hazards associated with an RC model aircraft. These operating instructions must be stored carefully and, if the model is passed on to others, they must also be passed on to the next user. Your retailer will be happy to answer questions regarding the safe operation of the RC aircraft model. When buying a radio remote control unit, make sure that transmitter and receiver are suited for model aircraft, that they are approved by the German postal and telecommunications authority, and that they have an FTZ inspection serial number. In the frequency ranges for radio remote controls, other radio systems and high-frequency equipment are operated. Therefore, no protection can be provided against interference by such devices. Operation of a radio-control device for model aircraft in the approved channels in the 35-MHz band is subject to fees, meaning that the radio control device must be registered with the German Bundespost-Telekom authorities. Additional information on this topic can be obtained from the local office of the telecommunications authority or from a model shop. Radio-controlled models are very demanding and dangerous objects and require that the user have great expertise, skill, and a sense of responsibility. Page 4

In legal terms, our models are classed as aircraft and as such are subject to legal regulations and restrictions which must be observed. Our brochure Modellflugrecht, Paragrafen and mehr (Model Aviation Law, Legal Requirements and more), Order No contains a summary of all these rules, and your local model shop should also have a copy which you can read. There are also regulations concerning your radio control system that must be observed. You will find more information on this subject in the operating instructions for your radio control system. Warning! Any deviation from the instructions may affect the function and operational safety of the impeller and must be avoided under all circumstances. Only the parts contained in the kit and the original Graupner accessories and replacement parts expressly recommended by us may be used; otherwise proper functioning can not be guaranteed. Warning! You as operator of this model aircraft are responsible for safe operation and for the protection of people and animals. Questions regarding the safe operation of RC model aircraft can be answered by your retailer. Warning! Adhesives and paints contain materials which may be hazardous to health under certain circumstances. You should therefore read and observe the notes and warnings supplied by the manufacturers of these materials. Warning! If there are passers-by or spectators at your flying site, make sure that they are aware of the dangers inherent in your activity before you start the motor, and insist that they keep a safe distance away (at least 5 m) from the plane of the propeller. Always keep a safe distance from people and objects when flying; never fly low over people s heads, and never fly directly toward them! Warning! Models should only be flown in a temperature range of -5 to +35 C. More extreme temperatures could lead to changes, for example, battery capacity, material characteristics, and faulty glued connections. All model fliers should take care to ensure that the public safety, especially that of people, animals, and property, as well as orderly flying operations, are not endangered or disturbed. Never operate your model aircraft close to high-tension overhead cables, industrial sites, residential areas, public roads, squares, school playgrounds, public parks, or sports grounds, et cetera. Do not ignore warnings! They refer to materials and situations, which, if ignored, can - in extreme cases - result in fatal injury or permanent damage. Do not switch on the electric motor unless you are sure that there is nothing in the rotational plane of the propeller. Do not try to stop the rotating propeller. Electric motors with the propeller attached should only be run when firmly mounted. Propellers and all rotating parts that are powered by a motor pose a constant risk of injury. Do not touch them with any part of your body! For example, a propeller spinning at high speed can cut off a finger! Always keep well clear of the rotational plane of the propeller! You never know when some part may come loose and fly off at high speed and with great energy, hitting you or a third party. Make sure that no other object can come into contact with the rotating propeller. Be careful with loose clothing, such as scarves, loose shirts, et cetera: They can be sucked in by the propeller stream or rotor and can get in the way of the propeller or impeller itself. Every time you intend to operate your model, check carefully to ensure that it and everything attached to it (for example, propellers, drive mechanism, RC parts, et cetera) are securely attached and undamaged. If you find a fault, do not fly the model until you have corrected it. Page 5

Always make sure that your frequency is vacant. Do not switch on until you are sure! Radio interference caused by unknown sources can occur at any time without warning. Your model will then be uncontrollable and completely unpredictable. Never leave your radio control system unattended, as another person might pick it up and try to use it. Before each flight, check that all functions on the model aircraft are working correctly, and that the radio control system is in good order and operating at full range. Note that the motor control function on the transmitter must always be moved to the OFF position before start-up. To keep the electric motor from starting unexpectedly, always switch the transmitter on first, and only then the receiving system. Likewise, always switch the receiving system off first and only then the transmitter. Check that the control surfaces follow the movement of the transmitter joysticks. Valid third-party insurance must be obtained before you operate any model aircraft. To ensure proper operation of your RC system, make sure that the batteries are kept fully charged. Never use batteries which are hot, faulty or damaged. At all times heed the instructions provided by the battery manufacturer. You should always be aware of the model s position and attitude throughout each flight, so that you can execute control and avoidance manoeuvres. If you detect a control problem or interference during a flight, immediately land the model for the sake of safety. Models must always give way to full-size aircraft. Take-off and landing strips should be free of people and other obstacles. The model's propulsion system must never be switched on while the model is lying on the ground or when there is a possibility of foreign objects being sucked in to the air intake. This can cause irreparable damage to the impeller. These notes are intended only to make you aware of the many dangers and hazards that can arise if you work carelessly or irresponsibly. If you take reasonable care, model flying is a highly creative, instructive, and relaxing pastime. Guarantee requirements Always use suitable connectors that are protected against incorrect polarity. All electrical lines, connectors, and the drive battery, when you assemble them yourself, must be insulated against short circuits. Never combine, for example, different metal and gold contacts, because safe functioning can not be guaranteed in this case. When using switches and controllers with receiver power supply units, only use connectors with Graupner gold contacts. Take care to avoid short-circuits and reversed polarity. The high energy of the LiPo batteries involves a risk of fire and explosion. A radio-controlled model aircraft can only work properly and fulfil your expectations if it is built with the greatest of care and in accordance with the assembly instructions. To avoid injuring people and damaging property, it is essential to be careful and thoughtful when operating your model. Nobody would climb into a full-size aircraft and attempt to fly it without undergoing training beforehand. Model flying also requires proper training. As manufacturers, however, we are not in a position to influence the way you build and operate your RC model aircraft. We therefore hereby expressly point out the hazards and reject any liability. We suggest that you ask an experienced model flyer for help, or join a model club or model flight training school. Your local model shop and the specialist magazines are excellent sources of information. It is always best to join a club and fly at the approved model flying site. Page 6

Centre of gravity The centre of gravity is located 70 mm aft of the leading edge of the fuselage opening for the wing, which corresponds to the trailing edge of the CRP strut. Rudder deflections The elevator trim must be trimmed upward about 1 mm when the centre of gravity is properly adjusted. It can be that a free linear mixer must be mixed from the gas channel to the elevator, so that the elevator deflects upward 1 mm at full throttle. This is necessary, because the intake channel of the model is located underneath, and the fuselage is pulled downward when air is taken in. These settings must be done separately for each model; they are only guidelines and depend on the centre of gravity. Aileron deflection, from 0-line +13 mm -10 mm Rudder deflection from 0-line +25 mm - 25 mm Elevator deflection, from 0-line: Kit contents + 15 mm -10 mm The kit includes the foam parts, injection-moulded parts, linkages, CRP strut belts, trim weight, and wing bolts Page 9

Assembly instructions The sequence of the assembly steps is designed to optimise the time needed for assembly. The sections and steps of the assembly instructions must be followed. Tailplane assembly 1. Start with the tailplane. First cut a 240-mm piece off one of the two 6x1x1000-mm CRP strut belts provided. The rest of the section is needed for the wing strut. Use a saw or wire cutters to make the cut. After cutting, clean the cut edge with a sanding block. 2. Put fast-setting glue, Order No in the cut-out for the strut in the elevator. Press the strut into the cut-out until it disappears in the tailplane flush with the outer surface. Tip! To do so, press the tailplane uniformly against the strut and the edge of your workbench. This ensures that the tailplane will be straight. Page 10

3. Now attach the elevator servos to the servo arms contained in the servo package as shown in the illustrations. To the servo cables, attach an extension cable Order No to extend them. Make sure that the servo arm is installed at zero servo position. To do so, briefly start up the receiver unit. Page 11

4. The servos must be glued in the cut-out provided in the tailplane using fastsetting glue, Order No Make sure that none of the fast-setting glue gets into the servos. After the glue has set, check the functioning of the servos. After the tailplane has been glued to the fuselage, it will no longer be possible to exchange the servos without great effort and damage to the foam parts. Tip! Before you glue in the servos, spray them with activator spray, Order No , to reduce the risk that the fast-setting glue will run into the housing before it sets; making the servos unusable. 5. Remove 2 of the 5 control horns from the extruded parts tree included in the kit. Attach the linkages to the outer drill hole of the control horns. The linkage for the servo arm is inserted in the 2nd drill hole from the outside. Now use fast-setting glue, Order No to glue the control horns to the rudder, precisely covering the cut-outs. Make sure no glue runs into the foamed hinge. Otherwise, it can get brittle and crumbly, crack, and no longer provide proper functioning. Page 12

6. After completing the tailplane, it can be set aside temporarily while you start the assembly of the fuselage. Fuselage assembly Here, you need to decide whether the model is to be equipped with a retractable undercarriage, because it will not be possible to install it after the fact - or it will be very difficult. If you have decided on a retractable undercarriage, it must be installed in the fuselage as the first thing. In addition, an 8- channel GR 16 receiver, Order No is needed, because the undercarriage and the bow landing gear servo each need a separate channel. The instructions for installing the retractable undercarriage in the fuselage can be found starting on page 39 of the instructions. The undercarriage may be used only on asphalt landing strips, because, if you start and land on grass, it can happen that foreign objects will be drawn into the air intake located on the underside and damage the impeller. Make sure that no foreign objects that can be sucked in are located on the asphalt landing strip. The complete assembly of the components in the fuselage is done in the right half of the fuselage. Page 13

Rudder servo installation 1. Use a knife to cut out the opening in the fuselage for the rudder servo arm. This opening is covered by a thin skin of foam that is very easy to remove. The rudder linkages are attached only after the decals have been affixed, because the decal runs over the rudder and must be cut free for the rudder control horn. 2. As described for the installation of the elevator servo, attach the servo arm to the servo and glue it into the opening provided in the vertical stabiliser. Make sure that none of the fast-setting glue gets into the servos. After the glue has set, check the functioning of the servos. After the tailplane has been glued to the fuselage, it will no longer be possible to exchange the servos without great effort and damage to the foam parts. Tip! Before you glue in the servos, spray them with activator spray, Order No , to reduce the risk that the fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821, will run into the housing before it sets and make the servo unusable. Page 14

3. The cable of the rudder servo is extended with an extension cable, Order No , and secured in the cable compartment at 2 points using fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821, to keep it from slipping. The air intake on the top of the fuselage of this aircraft that is designed to carry people is too small to serve as the air intake for the model and is just a dummy. In the model, the receiver is positioned here, and all cables of the servos and the controller should run out through this opening. Impeller assembly 1. Now install the impeller and the motor as described in the instructions for the impeller. For installation in the model, the cables of the motor and those of the battery connection cable of the controller have to be extended. To extend the battery connection cable, extension cable Order No VL can be used, which is simply stuck onto the battery cable of the controller. To extend the motor cable, use Order No It has to be soldered to the motor cables. Cut the cable to length and solder it on as shown in the illustrations. Before you install the motor in the impeller, check whether the motor turns in the right direction. Mark the cables so that, when you connect the controller, it is possible to connect them in the right order again. To do so, briefly start up the receiver unit. The lengths of the cables on the motor and controller should be observed, or it may not be possible to position the controller in the cut-out provided in the air intake. Page 15

2. The impeller is now installed in the fuselage and secured with a drop of fastsetting glue, Order No. 5821, in the opening provided. Really use just a drop to secure the impeller against slippage, because the position of the impeller has been designed so that it can be uninstalled again via the opening in the fuselage above the wing in case of a defect. 3. Secure the controller in the cut-out in the air intake using a bit of fast-setting glue, Order No Run the connecting cable for the receiver in the cable compartment and out through the dummy air intake. Run the connecting cable forward into the battery compartment. Make sure that the controller is placed at a 90 angle to the centre of the fuselage and that the heat sink of the controller is flush with the air channel. When the controller is installed in this position, there is enough space behind the controller for additional cables, for example for the landing gear. Page 16

Wing screw mount assembly 1. Now break the wing screw mount off the extruded parts tree. Glue the two parts together using fast-setting glue, Order No To do so, put two small drops of fast-setting glue only on the outer area of one of the two parts as shown in the illustrations. The two parts click together with barbed hooks and are then connected inseparably. Make sure that no glue gets onto the thread, or you will need a thread cutter to loosen it again. 2. After gluing the parts together, glue the screw mount into the opening provided in the fuselage using fast-setting glue, Order No Make sure that you glue the screw mount into the opening in the fuselage with the nose pointing in the right direction, or the fuselage halves will not be flush when you try to glue them together. Proceed as shown in the illustrations. Page 17

Battery compartment cover assembly 1. Break the mounts for the battery compartment cover off the extruded parts tree and glue them into the cut-outs provided with fast-setting glue. Glue the clips with the opening pointing toward the back of the fuselage. Make sure that no glue gets onto the clips, or proper functioning can not be guaranteed. Tip! Before you glue in the clips, spray them with activator spray, Order No , to reduce the risk that the fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821, will run into the clips before it sets and make them unusable. Apply a thin bead of fast-setting glue to the gluing surface of the clips and then press the clips into the cut-out. 2. From the extruded parts tree, break off the retaining bolts, left and right, and glue them into the battery compartment cover as shown in the illustrations. Later, after the fuselage has been glued together, the cover can simply be pushed into the battery compartment from above and will click into place in the clips with just light pressure. Glue the retaining bolts into place with the flattened side down. Not until now do you apply fast-setting glue to the foam part and spray the back side of the retaining bolt with activator spray. Page 18

Preliminary balancing of the centre of gravity. 1. Since the look and shape of the model is supposed to be as similar as possible to the original, and since the service factor has been designed as simply as possible for you so that you as customer can also use existing impellers or a retractable undercarriage, some compromises had to be made in regard to the centre of gravity and the placement of the individual components. For this purpose, the kit contains trim weights that can be glued in the vertical stabiliser; the number of trim weights can vary in accordance with the components used; integrating from none to a maximum of 2 weights. The centre of gravity of the fuselage with installed RC components, propulsion unit, and drive battery without the tailplane is 68 mm from the leading edge of the wing opening on the underside of the fuselage. The weights can be positioned in the cut-outs provided and, using fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821, can be fixed in place. 2. To balance the aircraft, place the left half of the fuselage on the right and attach them using two short strips of tape only on the underside and top of the fuselage with some crepe tape. Mark the centre of gravity in the opening of the fuselage and adjust balance of the centre of gravity on your fingertips. If you can not achieve the proper centre of gravity by shifting the position of the battery, spread the rudder fins slightly and place the trim weight into the round opening of the vertical stabiliser. 3. Inserting the drive battery and closing the battery compartment. Page 19

Gluing together the halves of the fuselage 1. Now place the tailplane under the fuselage as shown in the illustrations. Run the cable in the cable compartment and let it peek out of the dummy air intake. Tip! Use strips of crepe tape over the cable compartment to keep the cables from falling out. 2. Now connect all the cables to the receiver as described in the instructions for your transmitter, and run the extension cables, Order No , which are for the aileron servers, behind the impeller through the cable compartment. When using a GR-12 HoTT receiver, the second elevator servo is connected to channel 6 and is then either set to channel 8 in the transmitter using the servo output menu, or channel 6 is mapped to channel 8 in the receiver using the telemetry function. In this way, the mixer in the transmitter can again work with the 2 elevator servos. Page 20

Tip! After connecting and running the cables, you can also fix them in place using crepe tape. This keeps the cables from slipping or getting pinched when the halves of the fuselage are glued together. 3. Now apply fast-setting glue, Order No to the gluing surfaces of the side with the RC components; spray the other half with activator spray, Order No Bring the halves of the fuselage together and glue them to one another. Tip! It is possible to glue the fuselage halves together by yourself, but for inexperienced model builders, it is advisable to have a second person help you with this construction step, so that the parts will fit precisely and be glued straight after you have finished. With a second person to help, you can press the two halves of the fuselage together everywhere at the same time to ensure good, uniform adhesion. Page 21

4. With enough fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821, glue the tailplane to the fuselage. Make sure that the cables are hidden in the cable compartment and do not get glued. The tailplane must be positioned on the fuselage at exactly a 90 angle to the vertical stabiliser. Make sure that the tailplane rests cleanly on the curve of the fuselage and that you apply enough glue everywhere. If the tailplane is not glued on correctly, with too little glue, or with the wrong glue, the tailplane can break off during flight and cause a total loss of the model. 5. Use a drop of fast-setting glue to secure the impeller against slipping. Also secure the impeller with some fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821, in the upper area to prevent slipping. Do not use too much glue, so you will be able to exchange the impeller if it is defective. Page 22

Wing assembly 1. Cut the second CRP strut to a length of 765 mm; then proceed as described for the tailplane in Item (1), and glue it using fast-setting glue, Order No into the cut-out provided for the strut in the wing. Before gluing in the strut, check that the CRP strut has the correct length, so that it fits exactly into the cut-out provided. When gluing it in place, make sure that the strut is glued uniformly everywhere and rests against the foam part. Make sure that you glue the strut belt into the wing free of tension; otherwise the V form of the wing will be off or the wing will be crooked. Tip! First apply glue to the foam part and only in the cut-out in the wing. Now spray the CRP strut with activator spray, Order No on the side to be glued. Now place the strut at the left end and press it into place from left to right as shown in the photos. To make sure you do not get any glue on your fingers, use an old screwdriver to do the pressing. Page 23

2. Use a knife to cut the hole in the wing for the cables. This opening is covered by a thin skin of foam that is very easy to remove. 3. As with the tailplane, attach the servo arms to the servos; however, for the aileron linkage, only the small servo arm is needed. Extend each servo cable with an extension cable, Order No Make sure that the servo lever is in neutral position when the transmitter is switched on. For this purpose, briefly turn on the radio-control unit. Page 24

4. Use fast-setting (cyano-acrylate) glue, Order No to glue the servos into the cut-outs provided; run the servo cables through the cable compartment, and apply fast-setting glue at 2 points to secure them against slipping. Then run the servo cable out the wing through the cable opening. Make sure that none of the fast-setting glue gets into the servos. After the glue has set, check the functioning of the servos, because, after the strut cover has been glued into the wing, it will no longer be possible to exchange the servos without great effort and damage to the foam parts. Tip! Before you glue in the servos, spray them with activator spray, Order No , to reduce the risk that the fast-setting glue will run into the housing before it sets; making the servos unusable. Page 25

5. At the strut cover, the cover for the receiver in the dummy air intake is foamed. Cut it exactly along the edge using a knife. The cover will be needed later to close the opening in the air intake. 6. Glue the strut cover to the wing using fast-setting glue. Before gluing the strut cover, insert it without glue into the opening as a test to see that it sits correctly and to see where you need to apply glue. When you do this, make sure that you use enough glue everywhere in order to give the wing the necessary rigidity. First, apply glue to the cut-out for the strut in the wing and to the CRP strut belt. Now spray the strut cover with activator spray, Order No on the side to be glued. Now place the strut at the left end and press it into place from left to right as shown in the photos. The strut cover must be pressed into place quickly to make sure that the glue does not harden before the cover is in position. Make sure that you glue the cover into the wing free of tension; otherwise the V form of the wing will be off or the wing will be crooked. Page 26

7. Cut the rest of the CRP strut to a length of 665 mm, and use fast-setting glue, Order No to glue it into the cut-out provided for the strut in the wing. Page 27

If you decide to install a retractable undercarriage, the main landing gear must now be installed in the wing, because it will be impossible or very difficult to install it after the fact. The instructions for installing the retractable undercarriage in the fuselage can be found in the instructions starting on page 49. The undercarriage may be used only on asphalt landing strips, because, if you start and land on grass, it can happen that foreign objects will be drawn into the air intake located on the underside and damage the impeller. Make sure that no foreign objects that can be sucked in are located on the asphalt landing strip. 8. Run the cables out the opening and glue the wing cover to the wing using fastsetting glue. Before gluing the wing cover, insert it without glue into the opening as a test to see that it sits correctly and to see where you need to apply glue. When you do this, make sure that you use enough glue everywhere in order to give the wing the necessary rigidity. First, apply glue to the cut-out in the wing and to the CRP strut belt. Now spray the strut cover with activator spray, Order No on the side to be glued. Now press the wing cover into the cut-out as shown in the pictures. The cover must be pressed into place quickly to make sure that the glue does not harden before the cover is in position. Make sure that you glue the cover into the wing free of tension; otherwise the V form of the wing will be off or the wing will be crooked. Page 28

9. Remove the 2 control horns from the extruded parts tree and insert the linkages into the innermost drill hole. 10. Remove 2 control horns from the extruded parts tree. Insert the linkages with the control horn into the outermost drill hole of the servo arm and glue the control horn into the cut-out provided so that it exactly covers the cut-outs in the aileron using fast-setting glue, Order No Make sure that no glue runs into the foamed hinge; otherwise, it can get brittle and crumbly, crack, and no longer provide proper functioning. Page 29

11. Use fast-setting glue to glue the fixing sleeve into the drill hole in the wing. First apply glue to the fixing sleeve and then insert it into the drill hole in the wing. Make sure that the sleeve is flush with the underside of the wing. 12. Now the wing can be screwed to the fuselage. Make sure that the cables extend out of the wing, run in the cable compartment next to the impeller, and do not press against the wing. The wing fits into the opening in the fuselage without applying force; if this is not the case, check the position of the cables. Page 30

Affixing the decals 1. The decals are pre-cut and need only be peeled off, which eliminates the annoying work of cutting them out. 2. Stick the window decals into the recesses in the fuselage; on the windscreen, place the decal against the centre support on the straight side and smooth the decal toward the back toward the end of the window with a slight pull. The decals are designed so that the fit into the recess optimally using this procedure. 3. The most difficult part of affixing the decals is the aft part of the fuselage, but if you follow the steps described below, this should not be a great problem. The rear portion is somewhat longer than needed and thus gives you some latitude for placement on the model; after being affixed, the edge is cut off flush with the end of the fuselage. 4. Use scissors to roughly cut out the decal along with the backing paper; leave a 5- mm margin around the punched edge. For easier handling, you can peel off the 5-mm margin up to the punched edge of the decal. 5. Now place the decal against the aft part of the fuselage and align it as follows. The tip of the silver stripe starts at the forward edge of the central porthole window and is 35 mm from the lower edge of this window. Mark this point with a thin felt pen; it is enough to mark just a small dot that will be hidden under the decal after it is affixed. The upper edge of the silver stripe is located at the end of the fuselage 3 mm above the pseudo-edge of the service opening for the turbine. The anthracite-coloured lower stripe runs along about 5 mm below the highest point of the wing opening. Attach the decal in the centre with a bit of crepe tape. As a test, without removing the backing paper, you can now position the decal, following the contour of the fuselage, to check the course of the decal. If necessary, realign the decal if it does not extend beyond the end of the fuselage. Page 31

6. Now peel off the decal up to the piece of crepe tape and bend it toward the back without folding it. Then cut off the backing paper with scissors. Make sure that the decal does not accidently become stuck to its own adhesive layer, or it will not be possible to peel it apart again without damaging it. 7. Fold the decal back and smooth it lightly against the fuselage. Rub the decal first in the centre; this way you can peel it off again and realign it if necessary. Make sure that you place the tip of the silver stripe on the marked point. When the alignment is correct, you can firmly press the decal onto the fuselage. Page 32

8. Remove the crepe tape from the rear part of the decal, and bend it forward. Now remove the rest of the backing paper. Make sure that the decal does not get folded, because it is not possible to get rid of such folds. 9. Align the rear part of the decal with the rear attachment point. Rub the decal first in the centre; this way you can peel it off again and realign it if necessary. Make sure that the upper edge of the silver stripe is located at the end of the fuselage 3 mm above the pseudo-edge of the service opening for the turbine of the original. When the alignment is correct, you can firmly press the decal onto the fuselage in the centre. Page 33

10. Now, starting from the centre, firmly rub the decal along the contour of the fuselage upward and downward along the fuselage. Step by step, press along the longitudinal axis of the decal, keeping it a finger's width from and parallel to the central axis. This keeps folds or creases from forming while it is being affixed. The decals are designed so that, using this procedure, they optimally fit the contour of the fuselage and correctly fit the length of the model. Page 34

11. Cut the decal off flush with the vertical stabiliser and the end of the fuselage. Make sure that you cut only the decal and not the foam material. 12. Repeat the preceding steps analogously for the left half of the fuselage. 13. Cut the decal in the centre of the hinge and press it onto the hinge edges. When cutting the decal, make sure that the hinge of the rudder is not damaged; otherwise the rudder may come loose during flight and make the model uncontrollable. In order to cut the decal straight, use a geometric protractor. Page 35

Rudder linkage assembly Cut out the gluing surface for the rudder control horn, assemble the control horn with the linkage as for the elevator, and insert it into the outermost drill hole of the servo arm. Glue the control horn to the rudder using fast-setting glue. When you cut the adhesive surface free, make sure that you cut only the decal; otherwise the structure of the foam will be destroyed, and the control horn will no long hold to the material properly and can break out during flight. Make sure that no glue runs into the foamed hinge; otherwise, it can get brittle and crumbly, crack, and no longer provide proper functioning. Page 36

Installing the receiver 1. After binding and adjusting the receiver, place a strip of tape, folded over on itself, on the underside of the receiver so that you can easily remove the receiver again via the air intake without damaging the aerials. Carefully push the receiver toward the back, and run the aerial through the seams of the fuselage to the outside. Close the opening with the cover and secure it with the decal from the decal sheet. The tape should be fibre-reinforced tape to make sure that the tape does not rip when the receiver is pulled out using needle-nose pliers. Page 37

Bow landing gear assembly The installation of the retractable undercarriage and its operation in flight for start and landing is suitable only for model builders with lots of experience. The undercarriage may be used only on asphalt landing strips, because, if you start and land on grass, it can happen that foreign objects will be drawn into the air intake located on the underside and damage the impeller. Make sure that no foreign objects that can be sucked in are located on the asphalt landing strip. 1. To install the bow landing gear, break all the parts off the laser cut parts set that are engraved with a 1. When breaking off the parts, be careful not to damage them. Use 120 grain sandpaper to remove the burn residue left by the laser-cutting process; otherwise, during a head-on gluing process, the glue may not be able to get into the pores of the wood, causing the joint to fail. 2. Glue the parts together as shown in the following illustrations. Make sure that the result is one left and one right part, because, once glued, the parts can no longer be separated without damage. Page 38

3. Apply enough fast-setting glue to one of the two parts to be glued; spray the second part with activator spray. Precisely align and glue the two side parts together. Make sure that the parts really match up precisely; otherwise, the parts will not fit in the cut-out in the fuselage. The two side parts to be glued are different; one with a nose and one without. Make sure that the parts match up exactly along the upper contour. 4. Now apply fast-setting glue to the lower edge of the side parts, and glue the first part of the undercarriage mount to the side parts. Make sure that the undercarriage mount is flush all around. Page 39

5. Now precisely align and glue the second undercarriage mount. Make sure that the result is one left and one right part. 6. Now, as shown in the pictures, use a thin felt marker to transfer the start and the end of the landing gear compartment to the fuselage halves on the outside of the fuselage. Page 40

7. Tape the two fuselage halves together with crepe tape to mark the landing gear compartment exactly and symmetrically on the fuselage. 8. As shown in the photos, mark the landing gear compartment to a width of 13 mm and connect the markings with lines to form a rectangle. Page 41

9. Remove the crepe tape and use a carpet knife to cut the landing gear compartment out of the fuselage. Make sure that you make the cuts parallel to and at a 90 angle to the separation plane of the fuselage. Proceed as shown in the illustrations. Make a cut for the landing gear compartment in the rear and front parallel to the separation plane. From the bottom, make a cut for the landing gear compartment about 25 mm parallel to the separation plane. From below, make a longitudinal cut for the landing gear compartment along the foamed cutout extending to the previous cut. Make sure that you cut only long and deep enough so that this section falls out. Page 42

10. Tape the fuselage again; place the bow landing gear into the landing gear compartment, and use a thin felt marker to transfer the contour of the landing gear mechanism to the underside of the fuselage. 11. Use a router to precisely mill out the recesses for the plywood mounts along the contour of the landing gear mechanism, and glue in the mounts. Make sure that you do not mill away too much; otherwise you will need too much glue, which adds unnecessary weight. Page 43

12. For the cable of the landing gear mechanism, cut an opening to the battery compartment. 13. In the landing gear mount located in the left half of the fuselage, use a 2-mm drill bit to drill holes for the landing gear attachment screws, and install the undercarriage. 14. Use a servo tester to put the landing gear in the extended position. Page 44

15. As shown in the illustrations, install the servo arm to the servo, and place the servo into neutral position. The lead included with the undercarriage is looped through the servo arm so that the lead protrudes for the same length on both sides. 16. As shown in the photo, at both ends of the undercarriage lever arm, loop the leads through the drill holes of the lever arm, and then twist the ends. Make sure that the servo is placed in the cut-out provided for it, but is not yet glued in place. The servo and the nosewheel must both be in neutral position. The lead should be under slight tension. Page 45

17. The lead is covered in plastic; if you heat the sheathing, the two strands will fuse together. Make sure that you do not burn your fingers or the model with the lighter. Use a wire cutter to cut off the excess ends of the leads. 18. Under very slight tension of the leads, glue the servo into the cut-out provided. 19. Use a household rubber band to keep the lead under slight tension so that it does not get tangled when the landing gear are extended and retracted. Page 46

20. Now run the cables for the landing gear servo and the landing gear mechanism; on the floor of the battery compartment, they can be attached with UHU por Styrofoam glue. For the extension cables and connection of the landing gear mechanism and servo, 2 extension cables, Order No and 1 Connecting Cable, Order No are required. The connecting cable is used for the mechanism, because it can be operated with the main undercarriage with just one channel. 21. Now you can continue with the normal assembly instructions. After gluing the fuselage together, you can also install the landing gear in the other half of the fuselage. Page 47

Main undercarriage assembly 1. To install the main undercarriage, break all the parts out of the laser-cut parts set that are engraved with a 2, and use the second wing cover part included in the set with the undercarriage cut-outs. When breaking off the parts, be careful not to damage them. Use 120 grain sandpaper to remove the burn residue left by the laser-cutting process; otherwise, during a head-on gluing process, the glue may not be able to get into the pores of the wood, causing the joint to fail. 2. Use fast-setting glue to glue the plywood mounts into the cut-outs provided. Make sure that you glue the plywood mount to the foam part without any twisting; otherwise the foam part will no longer fit into the cut-out of the wing. Glue in the plywood part as shown in the photos, with the wider side toward the trailing edge of the wing. Page 48

3. Turn the cover 180 and use fast-setting glue to glue the doubling reinforcements to the mounts. Make sure that the doubling reinforcements are flush with the inner edge of the landing gear compartment; otherwise, the landing gear may no longer fit into the mount. Page 49

4. For the landing gear leg, enlarge the cut-out somewhat. To do so, place the landing gear into the landing gear mount, and use a thin felt pen to mark the place to be milled; then mill the cut-out from the foam material as shown in the photos. 5. Drill the holes for the undercarriage screws and install the undercarriage in the cover. Page 50

6. Extend the cables of the main undercarriage using a connecting cable Order No and run the cable out of the wing through the opening for the cables. Use a screwdriver to press the cables into the cable compartment for the aileron servo cables. Make sure that the cables are not damaged when pressed into the cable compartment, because this could create a short circuit and irreparably damage the undercarriage. Page 51

7. Apply fast-setting glue to the foam and plywood parts, and glue the cover to the wing. Before you glue the cover to the undercarriage, first position it in the wing cut-out without using glue in order to test whether the cable and cover are positioned correctly. Make sure that no glue gets into the mechanism of the retractable undercarriage; otherwise, it may get stuck, no longer function, or work poorly. 8. As a test, you can now retract and extend the undercarriage. 9. Now you can continue with the normal assembly instructions. Page 52

Programming the retractable undercarriage The retractable undercarriage is very easy to program, because it needs only one channel. 1. Connect the cables for the retractable undercarriages using connecting cables and to the receiver to a channel that has a control function, such as channel Before switching on the receiver, program this control switch by selecting channel 7 from the control switch menu of your radio control unit; then assign it to a switch of your choosing. This pre-programming avoids the situation of the landing gear consciously moving into the retracted or extended position. If the channel is not pre-programmed, the undercarriage does not know what it is supposed to do and constantly retracts and extends, which can lead to damage if the wing is touching the ground with the undercarriage side down or is blocked by some other circumstance. The undercarriage has integrated blocking protection that switches the mechanism off if it is blocked. The mechanism is re-activated when you hit the switch again. Make sure that the undercarriage can always move freely and is not blocked. In the receiver, programme a failsafe setting in the extended or retracted position; the extended position is recommended, because the model is assembled when switched on and usually stands upon the undercarriage. Make sure that the landing gear legs are all in the same position; for many model builders this will prevent confusing behaviour by the undercarriage. However, it is also not a problem if all the undercarriage legs are not in the same position. The undercarriage initialises itself; as a result, all legs are in the same position once the switch is activated. 3. Now switch on the receiver Depending on the position of the switch and the position of the individual landing gear legs, it can happen that nothing happens or that the undercarriage moves to the extended or retracted position. 4. If you now put the switch in the second position, all the landing gear legs move into the same position; for example, those landing gear legs that were already extended remain so. Only those legs move that are not yet in this position. 5. Now the undercarriage is programmed and can be used. Page 53

Changing the battery Maiden flight - After you have constructed the model according to the instructions, have programmed the radio control system as indicated, and have charged all the batteries, nothing more stands in the way of your first flight. - A range test with the motor running is also recommended! - Building the model is very simple; flying is a greater challenge. Flight experience is a prerequisite for operating the model! All that remains is to wish you many hours of happy flying with your VICTORY S. Your Team! Page 54
