4 1. INTRODUCTION Congratulations on purchasing your new Pro-Movec equipped ebike. The Pro-Movec system is part of a new generation of ebikes, designed and developed based on many years of experience in the ebike area. Before you start using your new ebike, please read this manual, as it contains some important information concerning the use and maintenance of the electric assist system and your bicycle. Pro-Movec electric assist bicycle systems are manufactured according to the most recent production technology. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact your dealer. Important Symbols Warning Battery Disposal Delivery date: Pro-Movec A/S Brunbjergvej 2 DK-8240 Risskov Tlf PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Your bike is produced according to the guidelines of the European standard EN (City bikes) and EPAC EN Pro-Movec motors are integrated into the front or rear wheel depending on the ebike model purchased and the battery is either integrated into the carrier or the bicycle frame for optimal weight distribution. WARNING The bike, or its components can be destroyed or damaged if you ride in a manner that is more harmful than the riding style for which the bike is designed. If the bicycle is damaged, you may lose control of it and fall. Do not exceed the limitations imposed by your bicycles design. If you are unsure of the bicycles limits, please consult your dealer. As with all mechanical components, the bicycle is also exposed. Various materials and components may react in different ways. If a component s life has been exceeded or overloaded, it can suddenly cause injury to the rider. If there are some kinds of cracks, scratches or changes in color, it can be a sign of the component is overloaded and must be replaced. 4 //

5 3. FEATURES 3.1 Display Operation of the display takes place on the left handlebar, where you will find 4 function buttons. 3.2 Display Features The battery indicator is integrated in the LED display on the handle-bar. On the display you can see the approximate battery level. Note: The battery level may vary depending on whether you ride uphill or downhill. There is also an error indicator integrated into the display. If the first light on the battery indicator starts flashing while riding, an error has been detected in the electrical system. The number of flashes indicates the type of error. See section 3.5 for more error information. 3.3 Assist-Functions The assist-function has 5 setting options. By pressing the up/ down button you will choose the appropriate assist level. The system also has a walk assist feature. By pressing the 6 km/h button on the display, this feature allows you to drive up to 6 km per hour without activating the pedals regardless of the setting of the assistant level. At 20 mph (32 kph) the electric assist mode cuts out. While the rider can ride faster than 20 mph (32 kph) the system will no longer be engaged. 3.4 LED Display Function There are 5 assist-levels.: Level 1 - approx. 5.3 mph / 8.5 kph Level 2 - approx. 8.5 mph / 13.5 kph Level 3 - approx. 11 mph / 18.0 kph Up-/down buttons 6 km walk assist Light Level 4 - approx. 16 mph / 25.5 kph Level 5 - approx. 20 mph / 32 kph evobicycle.com // promovec.com // 5

6 3.5 Error Indicator The number of flashes indicates which errors are involved. Number of Flashes Error Solution 2 Motor error If the motor has a plug, please check if the plug is fully together, otherwise please contact your dealer. 3 Controller error Please contact your dealer. 4 Display error Please contact your dealer. 5 Brake sensor Please contact your dealer. 8 Low battery voltage Charge the battery 3.6 Riding with Electric Assistance Instructions The auxiliary motor works as follows: When the pedals are activated a sensor sends a signal to the electronic controller which then starts the motor. The power of the auxiliary motor is adjusted according to the chosen assist level. During the ride you may adjust the assist level according to actual need. The electronic controller will automatically disconnect the motor when you stop pedaling, also the controller will disconnect the motor when your speed exceeds 20 mph or 32 kph. 4. BATTERY INSTALLATION/REMOVAL 4.1 Installing and Dismounting the Battery Rack Mounted Batteries With the key in turned to the open position, the battery is removed from the back of the cradle by gently pulling on it. The battery is mounted by pushing it into place and turning the key to the locked position. Be sure the battery fits into the guide rail for proper fitment. 4.2 Installing the Charger The battery can be charged mounted in the carrier or when removed for convenience. 6 //

7 4.3 Installing and Dismounting the Battery Frame Integrated Turn the key to the right to insert the battery in the frame (down tube) Slide the battery from the bottom up in the down-tube. Remember to hold onto the battery. Push the battery into the down tube-tube, and lock the battery by turning the key to the left. The key can be removed only if the battery is properly installed and locked. Removal of the battery is carried out in the reverse order of installation. 4.4 Installing and dismounting the Battery - Folding Frame With the frame open at least 90 degrees, insert the battery into the frame. The locking mechanism in the battery should be unlocked by turning the key to the left. evobicycle.com // promovec.com // 7

8 Slide the battery into the frame until the end is flush with the frame. To lock the battery in place, turn the key to the right and remove. Note: The battery will not properly engage the battery terminals if the battery is not locked. And when the frame is open for transport, the battery may slide out resulting in damage or loss. After closing and locking the frame, turn the battery on by moving the toggle switch to the on position. The toggle switch is accessible through an opening on the left side of the frame just behind the headtube. To remove the battery, simply follow these steps in reverse. 5. BATTERY AND CHARGING 5.1 Description of Charger and Charging Process 1a. Charging the battery mounted on the bicycle. Plug the charger into the charging connector Set the network plug ( v) in the main power-switch and switch on charger. See section 5.1 point 3. 1b. Charging the battery mounted on the bicycle. (Atwater only) Plug the charger into the charging connector accessed through an opening on the left side of the frame. Set the network plug ( v) in the main power-switch and switch on charger. 8 //

9 2. Charging disconnected battery Insert the charger plug in the battery. Set the network plug ( v) into the outlet and switch on the charger. Red light indicates when the battery is charging. Switch off the charger before removing the charging connector! When the red LED turns green, the battery is charged. After charging set the small rubber cover into the slot to protect it. Charger Light Power Plug Power Light Charger Plug 5.2 Charging Pro-Movec uses maintenance-free Panasonic Li-ION batteries. The battery is delivered 40-60% charged from the factory. Before use the battery must be fully charged with the supplied charger. For maximum battery life and range, charging your battery in a room 68º (20º Celsius) or warmer is recommended. Charging at lower temperatures takes longer and can lead to less than full charges, which reduces range and overall battery life. Note: Optimal battery charging takes place at 68º or 20º Celsius Important: It is possible for condensation to form both on the inside and outside of the battery. If you see condensation form on the outside of your battery, do not charge it. Remove the battery and place it inside to dry-out. Condensation inside the battery can damage the circuit board. It is unnecessary to fully discharge your Li-ION battery before charging, as Li-ION batteries do not develop a memory. Frequently charging your Li-ION battery can extend the life of the battery. Note: Once you start charging your Li-ION battery it is important to let it charge until it is full. Not completing the charge cycle may negatively impact the battery. Note: Rechargeable batteries should always be stored and removed from all equipment when not in use. Note: Never pull the wires when the charger is connected to the battery. Hold the plug and pull it gently from the battery. Note: Never leave the battery mounted in the charger while the charger is off. Note: It is important to charge your battery at least every 30-days, even during winter storage. Note: Be aware that battery capacity decreases over time and at lower temperatures. The more power the ebike uses, the more it decreases the capacity and thus the range. Batteries under normal use can last up to 600 complete charge and discharge cycles. Note: Periods of low temperatures will negatively affect the capacity and performance of the battery. When temperatures rise to about 68º (20º Celsius) battery performance is regained. Battery performance and range are affected by rider weight, riding style, terrain, surface resistance and tire pressure. It is also affected by rider pedaling effort more effort will result in better battery performance. evobicycle.com // promovec.com // 9

10 During seasonal riding, it is recommended to keep your charger plugged in all times when not riding, provided you are riding at least once per week. Your charger will automatically switch to standby when the battery has been fully charged. When riding less frequently, the battery should be removed from the charger once fully charged and plugged in once monthly until fully charged. (Full charge = Green) 5.3 Winter Storage During long-term or winter storage, the battery should be removed from the charger once fully charged and plugged in once monthly until fully charged. (Full charge = Green) Your battery should always be fully charged while in storage, as the battery is negatively affected by long-term full or partial discharge. 5.4 Warning Do not heat, short circuit, puncture or otherwise mistreat the battery. Do not separate or damage the battery. Do not throw the battery into fire. Do not immerse the battery in water or any other liquid. The battery can only be charged with the included charger. Never charge the battery at temperatures below 0º or above 110º (45º Celsius). 5.5 Battery Disposal Batteries contain substances that can be harmful to human health and the environment if not handled properly. Batteries are marked with the crossed-out garbage. It symbolizes that wasted batteries must not be disposed of with normal household waste, but must be collected separately. Li-ION batteries must be recycled in accordance with local laws, as to not harm the environment. 5.6 Battery Charging Charging must be done indoors or otherwise away from water. There are two options for charging the battery: 1. Charging the battery mounted on the bike The battery must be mounted in the bike. Plug the charger into the charging connector Set the network plug ( v) into the power outlet and switch on the charger. Red lights when the battery is charging. Switch off the charger before removing the charging connector. When the red LED turns green, the battery is charged. After charging, plug the small rubber cover into the slot to protect it. 10 //

11 2. Charging with the removed battery Turn off the power and remove the battery. Connect the 4-pin connector from the charger to the battery charging points. Set network socket ( v) into the power outlet and switch on the charger. Red diode lights when it is charging. Switch off the charger before removing the charging connector. When the red LED turns green, the battery is charged. 6. FOLDING YOUR ATWATER EBIKE 1. Place the kickstand in the up position 2. Using the quick-release on the steering column, shorten the steering column 3. Using the quick-release, lower the seat 4. Using the release in the pedal body, fold both pedals down 5. From the right side, turn the crank arm to the 12 O clock position 6. To fold the frame, pull up on the safety tab and open the locking arm (Image A1) a. While folding, hold the handlebars to keep the front wheel pointed forward 7. To fold the handlebars/steering column, release the locking arm and swing the bars toward the ground. (Image A2 and A3) Follow these steps in reverse order to unfold the bicycle into a ridable state. Warning It is imperative that all locking cam arms, safety tabs and quick-releases are properly tensioned, closed and/or locked prior to riding the bicycle. Failure to do so, could release in loss of control, serious injury or worse. Please, consult your bicycle retailer or professional bicycle mechanic for expert advice on how to properly tension, adjust and close these critical features. 12 7. MAINTENANCE The bike and the electrical system do not require any special maintenance. It is recommended to clean the bike and lubricate moving parts at regular intervals. Be aware that the wearing parts must be replaced as needed. The timing of replacement parts is dependent upon frequency and duration of use. If these guidelines are not followed, the risk of damage and the warranty on the bike will be lost. To maintain and preserve the ebike s condition, we recommend an inspection two times per year, and at least once a year by a professional bicycle retailer. 8. WARRANTY Pro-Movec Limited Warranty Pro-Movec warrants new Pro-Movec branded components, parts and accessories against defects in workmanship and materials, as specified below: NOTE: All warranty periods outlined below apply to original owner only Two-Year Warranty Display, controller, torque sensor, hub motor and motor parts, control cables and lights (excluding light bulbs). *See Battery Registration for more information. This warranty is effective as of March 1, 2017 and covers only Pro-Movec branded products. Any products not specifically included above are hereby omitted. This Warranty Does Not Cover: Normal wear and tear Improper installation or assembly Improper follow-up maintenance Damage or failure due to accident, misuse, abuse or neglect Labor charges for part replacement or changeover Legal Disclaimer This warranty is expressly limited to the repair or replacement of a defective product, at the option of Pro-Movec, and is the sole remedy of the warranty. This limited warranty applies only to the original purchaser of the Pro-Movec product and is not transferable. This warranty applies only to Pro-Movec products purchased through an authorized dealer or distributor. In no event shall Pro-Movec be liable for any loss, inconvenience or damage, whether direct, incidental, consequential, or otherwise resulting from breach of any express or implied warranty or condition of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or otherwise with respect to our products except as set forth herein. This warranty gives the consumer specific legal rights, and those rights and other rights may vary from place to place. This warranty does not affect your statutory rights. The English version of the warranty shall prevail. TO THE EXTENT NOT PROHIBITED BY LAW, THESE WARRANTIES ARE EXCLUSIVE AND THERE ARE NO OTHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS INCLUDING WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. 12 //

13 8.1 Battery Registration IMPORTANT: It is important to register your Pro-Movec battery within 8 days of purchase via the Pro- Movec website to obtain your 2-year capacity guarantee for non-commercial use. The guarantee covers a guaranteed minimum capacity of 70% in 2 years from date of purchase. Note: The 2-year guarantee does not apply to Pro-Movec systems and batteries used in commercial applications, including bicycle rentals. 9. APPROVALS Your ebike is CE approved. 10.
