5 MAINTENANCE NOTICE OF SAMPLING VALVES 3 INTRODUCTION 3.1 PRESENTATION The PEX-PEAX is designed for sampling at high or low temperatures, either in tanks or pipes, by integrating an independent cleaning and sterilisation process into the ongoing production run. Sampling is performed by opening the valve. The through-flow is either gravitycontrolled in a tank or pressurised in a pipe. The only parts to contact the product are made of 316L stainless steel or an elastomer suitable for the intended use. 7 3.3 GUIDELINES FOR USE Important : When handling this valve, which is designed to transport dangerous products (high temperature during sterilisation, corrosive products, etc.), it is recommended that the necessary precautions are taken and that adequate safety equipment is used, for example : DANGER! - Safety glasses ; - Safety gloves ; - Non-slip boots ; - Clothing to protect against sprayed liquids Important : Never dismantle a valve without checking that the tank or pipe on which it is installed is empty and depressurised. Usage restrictions: - This type of valve is not designed for transporting steam on a permanent basis. - The valve must not be used for vacuums, as this risks causing the valve to malfunction and the membrane to deteriorate. CAUTION! - Stoppers (fig 6, page 13) are provided for a maximum pressure of 300 kpa (3 bar) and will be ejected above this value, or even below this pressure if they are not installed correctly. - Certain products, or faulty installation, can also result in deterioration of the membrane. If this occurs, contact us with precise details of the usage conditions (temperature, products, pressure, sterilisation time, etc.). 3.4 MAINTENANCE This equipment does not require any special maintenance. NOTE! However, we recommend that you change the membrane at least twice a year in the case of infrequent use, or more frequently in the case of more demanding use (depending on sampling and cleaning frequency, products, temperature, etc.). 8 4 DISMANTLING THE VALVE 4.1 DISMANTLING MANUAL VALVE PEX Loosen the handle until the valve is fully open, then exert greater force to unclip and disengage the handle completely Loosen the membrane holder/tappet/ membrane assembly from the body using a 17 mm openend wrench for DN6, 19 mm for DN10 and 27 mm for DN15. 1 : Body 2 : Membrane 3 : Tappet 4 : Membrane holder 5 : Clip-on handle To dismantle the membrane, hold the membrane holder and push the upper tappet and/or pull on the membrane to remove it from its housing. hold push NM-161 Number 8 Page 8/20 March 2016

9 4.2 DISMANTLING MANUAL VALVE PEX EVO To unscrew 2 screws [38] then to take out the handle [37] of the assembly, to unscrew the room support handle [36 ] to reach the assembly membrane holder Loosen the membrane holder/tappet/ Membrane assembly from the body using a 17 mm open-end wrench for DN6, 19 mm for DN10 and 27 mm for DN15. 1 : body 2 : membrane 4 : membrane holder 35 : tappet 36 : handle support 37 : handle 38 : handle screw To dismantle the membrane, hold the membrane holder and push the upper tappet and/or pull on the membrane to remove it from its housing. hold push NM-161 Number 8 Page 9/20 March 2016

10 4.3 DISMANTLING AUTOMATIC VALVE PEAX DISMANTLING THE VALVE ASSEMBLY Open the valve with the actuator air supply switched on, then unscrew the actuator from the body. (Dismantling can also be performed with the valve closed and the air supply switched off, but this procedure is not recommended). 8 7 Loosen the membrane holder/membrane assembly from the body using an open-end wrench (17 mm for DN6, 19 mm for DN10 and 27 mm for DN15) : Body 2 : Membrane 7 : Membrane holder 8 : Automatic valve actuator Pull the membrane to release it from the membrane holder. 11 4.3.2 DISMANTLING DN6 AND DN10 AUTOMATIC VALVE ACTUATORS Cut the air supply from the valve actuator and disconnect the connecting pipe from the Ø4/6 quick-connection lever. If the valve is fitted with a lever for combined automatic/manual control, remove the guide pin. Take care not to damage the shaft of the valve actuator Remove the two stoppers and unscrew the cylinder base from the valve body using a commercially available side-hole pin wrench (Ø2,5 pins) or using the special DEFINOX wrench (reference ) Remove the spring, then the piston shaft. 10 : Cylinder body 12 : Piston shaft 13 : Spring 16 : Cylinder base 17 : Stopper 18 : Lever 19 : Pin 20 : Ø4/6 quick-connection lever NM-161 Number 8 Page 11/20 March 2016

12 4.3.3 DISMANTLING THE DN15 AUTOMATIC VALVE ACTUATOR CAUTION! NOTE! This operation must be performed using the correct tools and taking all necessary precautions as the spring (which is stronger than those of the DN6 and DN10 valve actuators) is preloaded. We recommend dismantling and reassembling the valve actuator using a press or a tool of the type shown in the diagram opposite (this tool must be made to accommodate a spring expansion of 50 mm). Cut the air supply from the valve actuator and disconnect the connecting pipe from the Ø4/6 quick-connection lever, if this is not already the case ; Place the actuator vertically in the tool ; Push down on the cylinder base, compressing the spring ; Remove the snap-ring from its recess (e.g. using a small screwdriver) ; Release the pressure: the cylinder base will rise ; The cylinder base, piston shaft and spring are now free ; Remove the spring, then the piston shaft Minimum : 50 mm : Cylinder body 12 : Piston shaft 13 : Spring 16 : Cylinder base 20 : Quick-connection lever 22 : Assembly snap-ring NM-161 Number 8 Page 12/20 March 2016

13 5 REASSEMBLY This procedure is performed in the reverse order to dismantling. However, it is necessary to take into account the following information : - Before reassembling the parts, ensure that the assembly is lubricated with an appropriate lubricant (water-resistant and temperature-resistant mechanical grease E.g., for information: 4025 H1 QUINPLEX by Lubrication Engineers). NOTE! - Do not damage the seals on edges of the parts. - Test operation of the pneumatic valve actuator before reassembling. If you encounter problems when carrying out the operations described above, do not hesitate to contact us. We are also happy to carry out the maintenance of your valves in our workshop or on site.
