1 Instruction Sheet Installing the Integral Platen Blow Off Valve WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation.. Introduction The Nordson integral platen blow off valve eases the drum change-out procedure on Nordson Series 5000 units by allowing the operator to inject air below the platen with the turn of a switch. The air forces the platen up and out of the drum. This option eliminates the need to replace the platen T-handle with an interim fitting and separate low-pressure air line during drum change-out. When the integral platen blow off valve is installed, an air line remains attached to the platen through the blow off valve, which is threaded into the platen follower plate. The integral platen blow off valve may be installed only on units already equipped with the platen follower plate that has square section-seal grooves and a factory-installed pipe plug. The pipe plug is removed during installation.. Safety Read and observe the Safety During Servicing portion of the Safety Summary section in your Series 5000 product manual. WARNING: Hot! Risk of burns! Hot applicator parts, splashed hot melt material, and hot gun surfaces can cause severe burns. Wear long-sleeved, heat-protective clothing, safety goggles, and heat-protective gloves. Hot melt material may be released forcefully.
2 Installing the Integral Platen Blow Off Valve. Safety (contd.) WARNING: Risk of burns. System or material pressurized. Air trapped in hoses and guns can spit out molten adhesive that can cause severe burns. Failure to relieve hydraulic pressure can result in serious burns. Relieve hydraulic pressure when instructed to do so. WARNING: Even when switched off, Nordson applicators, hoses, and guns contain electrical potentials that can cause death. Disconnect and lock out line voltage to the applicator when instructed to do so.. Installing the Integral Platen Blow Off Valve Use this procedure to install the integral platen blow off valve. Be sure to heed the safety warnings in the Safety section above. reparing the Unit for Blow Off alve Installation. If there is a drum in the unit, remove it by following the drum removal instructions in the Series 5000 product manual..
