12 PRODUCTION Cat gas engines for compressor and pump drives. Gas engine selection is dependent upon three criteria: of driven equipment, fuel quality and aftercooler water temperature. Fuel quality determines the piston compression ratio. Cat offers low compression ratio () engines for field gas, propane and other low methane number gases. Pipeline fuel, on the other hand, can typically use high () compression ratio engines. The aftercooler water of turbocharged engines used in petroleum applications is typically cooled by a radiator core. This dictates the use of 54 C (130T) ratings. If lower temperature water is available, the 32 C ( F) ratings can be considered. Naturally aspirated engines do not have aftercoolers.
