A Public Awar eness Message Iroquois Pipeline Operating Company operates and maintains a natural gas pipeline to bring clean, safe and reliable energy to your area.

The purpose of this message, and the information on the back cover, is to make you aware of our pipeline and what to do in the event of an emergency.

The purpose of this message, and the information on the back cover, is to make you aware of our pipeline and what to do in the event of an emergency. Help us prevent pipeline damage Call before you dig see back cover Notify us immediately if the pipeline is inadvertently struck during excavation Report unauthorized excavations or suspicious activity at any pipeline facility or on the right-of-way Emergency Preparedness Emergency Operating Plan and Field Operations & Maintenance Procedures are in place. Focused on safety and community, this calendar is one of the many ways Iroquois communicates information about our pipeline. Residents who receive this calendar as part of our mailing typically are located within 1000 feet of our natural gas pipeline. Public officials and emergency responders who serve the many towns and cities we traverse also receive this calendar as a reminder of the existence of our pipeline and how they can partner with us to safeguard their communities. As a neighbor to the Iroquois Pipeline, it is important that you are aware of the pipeline and understand the facts provided in this calendar related to pipeline safety in general and those specific to Iroquois. For example, the gas transported on the Iroquois Pipeline north of Wright, NY is not odorized, so you need to know how to detect a leak other than through the sense of smell. And you also need to know that calling 811 prior to performing any excavation work is critical, even though you may think you know where the pipeline is buried. Providing this information in a clear and memorable manner is the goal of Iroquois Public Awareness Education Program. Striving for continuous improvement of our program, we recently conducted a telephone survey to determine how effective we are in communicating information about our pipeline and natural gas safety. The results of the survey will allow us to continue to find methods to keep our affected public informed. I strongly encourage you to review and share with family members the safety information found above and on the back cover of this calendar, and also urge you to keep it as a handy reference to Iroquois emergency and non-emergency numbers in the event you need to contact us. 15 Natural gas has an excellent safety record, but like all forms of energy, it must be handled properly. It is important for everyone to be familiar with the characteristics of natural gas and be prepared to react properly to ensure your safety and the safety of others. What To Do If You Suspect a Natural Gas Leak 1 Move to a safe location. 2 Call 911 and Iroquois Gas Control at Do not strike a match; use telephones; operate engines and motors; or switch on/off appliances, lights, or even a flashlight in the area where you smell gas. These items can produce sparks that might ignite the gas and cause an explosion. How To Detect a Natural Gas Leak Unodorized Natural Gas 30"diameter pipeline, North of Wright, NY the gas in Iroquois system is unodorized. Odorized Natural Gas 24"diameter pipeline, South of Wright, NY the gas in Iroquois system is odorized. Smell Natural gas is a colorless, odorless gas. Some pipelines are odorized with a smell similar to rotten eggs to aid in detection of a leak. Iroquois has both odorized and unodorized pipeline segments. See box at left. Sight A natural gas leak can be seen as a dust cloud, mist, fog, bubbles in standing water, or vegetation that appears to be dead or dying for no apparent reason. Sound Leaking natural gas sounds similar to air roaring, hissing, or whistling.
