F-110 FRIGATE THE FUTURE COMBATANT OF THE SPANISH ARMADA Navantia started in 1996 the design of the frigate F years later and with 13 ships of this family built, with different versions and for several countries, the innovative and new frigate F110 aims to maintain Navantia s world leadership position as a designer and builder of frigates and their further life cycle support. FAM 2
The future F-110 frigate will be a fundamental technological step in the Platform and Combat Systems, as well as the starting point for the incorporation of Industry 4.0 technologies, which will improve the systems management throughout their entire life cycle. The F110 frigate is being designed to perform military missions during peacetime and wartime specially in the challenging littoral environment. The Spanish Navy plans call for the procurement of five vessels in the timeframe. The Spanish Navy s F-110 Frigate, manufactured by Navantia, is intended to replace the country s six Santa Mariaclass ships as they approach the end of their operational life from With a full service date of 2025, the fleet will seek to provide a multi-purpose capability for at least forty years and will deliver a platform for unmanned surface, subsurface and aerial vehicles The Spanish government has given the green light to the development of its new generation of frigates after authorizing a first R&D contract of million (US $150.3 million) to develop the F-110 series from 2015 until The purpose of this R&D contract is the implementation of three programs: develop the integration of sensors on the mast, the incorporation of new capabilities in the Scomba 3
F-110 Frigate combat system and actuation and control of missile systems to be installed in frigates F-110. of automation that can carry out, without the presence of the crew, tasks that were formerly assumed by it. It is expected F-110 frigates will replace the six Santa María-class frigates (F-80) of the Spanish Navy from 2022 until The plan is to build five new frigates. This will be the major Spanish Navy military program in the next decade together with the construction of the S-80 Plus class submarine. This new F-110 frigates will operate in high-threat scenarios forming battle groups at sea or may act alone in areas near the coast. Anti-aircraft, asymmetric warfare, maritime safety, naval power projection, military-civilian cooperation, deployment flexibility, hybrid propulsion and space for unmanned vehicles are features and missions that will be carried out by the Spanish Navy with these new frigates. The frigates will be about tons displacement. The crew will be very small, in the neighbourhood of people, versus the 225 of the F-80 and 250 people of the F-100. Capacity will be available to increase number for personnel transport depending on the missions and specific equipment. This implies to be a ship with a high degree Armament & Electronic It will have a 18 cell vertical launch system (MK 41) for RIM- 162 ESSM Block 2 missile, SSM Harpoons and a 127 mm gun (Leonardo/OTO-Melara 127 mm/54 LW). In June 2018, Spain was cleared to buy Aegis systems for F-110 frigates. The US State Department approved a potential sale of five Aegis shipsets for the F-110 frigates. The potential sale of US military equipment to Spain is worth an estimated $860.4 million and includes five MK7 Aegis weapon systems with computing infrastructure, fire control systems, baseline VII MK 41 vertical launching systems (VLS). This new generation of Spanish frigates will be equipped with the Scomba combat system, developed by Navantia after the technology transfer agreements with Lockheed Martin during the former Álvaro de Bazán-class frigates (F-100) program. The main novelty of F-110 will consist on the integrated mast, where the communications system, radar, electronic warfare and optronics will be located. All in one, avoiding 4
FAM Report rotating elements. The new mast will integrate the next systems: IFF E/O Illumination radar Fire control radar Main Search radar Communication devices EW sensors Indra will also be involved in the project. This contract is seen as vital for the future Spanish shipbuilder, according to defence industry sources. The F-110 program is also considered as the core for Spanish military exports in the future. "This type of frigate could be appropriate to replace about 65 frigates or corvettes in international military markets in the decade of ," said an official Spanish government source. A number of modular capabilities were identified, and outlined in the Staff Requirement Document. These include naval special warfare, unmanned vehicles operations (UAV, USV, et cetera), medical support, a prison module, and others. In accordance with the mission profile, different combinations of mission modules can be embarked. Studies are intended to identify all the requirements with regard to the frigate, both those directly related to the ship and also those related to doctrine, organization, infrastructure, facilities ashore, and related issues. State-owned Navantia will build the F-110 frigates. Other Spanish companies like the defence systems producer 5
F-110 Frigate of radar and electronic warfare systems, integrating leading edge technologies in high power amplification and digitalization. Like the Aegis Combat System, the solid state radar system employs an open architecture design that more easily facilitates integration with other systems and components, Lockheed Martin will support Indra during the technology development phase of the project that will culminate in 2020 with the demonstration of a full Engineering Development Model of an integrated solid state S-band radar for the future Spanish frigate. Combat System Navantia has just to sign a contract with the Carlos III University of Madrid to support the Applied Artificial Intelligence Research Group of the Department of Informatics for the development of the SCOMBA combat management system (CMS) for the F-110 Frigate. "And of course, potential clients of Navantia will want a proven product by the Spanish Navy". New radar Indra and Lockheed Martin recently demonstrated the first phase of integration of new a solid state S-band radar system being developed for the future Spanish F-110 Frigate. The test was part of the technology development phase in the joint development of this next generation radar system. F-110 will include the introduction of an evolved Combat Management System (CMS) and new solid-state S-band radar. As part of the collaboration, Indra is supplying the building block to achieve a fully Digital Antenna, including the Digital Transmit-Receive modules that contain stateof-the-art Solid State Gallium Nitride (GaN) high power amplifiers, developed from its experience in the design Under this agreement, the University will support Navantia in the development of new data fusion and association capabilities, whose objective is to optimize the integration of the information received in SCOMBA from the different sensors aboard F-110. This will allow the operators have better information on the tactical situation at all times. SCOMBA, which began its journey in Navantia, specifically in its Systems Center in San Fernando (Cádiz) in 2004, is the CMS fitted on all last generation vessel of the Spanish Armada, such as the LHD "Juan Carlos I", the AOR "Cantabria" and the 6 BAM OPVs. SCOMBA is the result of an effort of close collaboration between Navantia and the Spanish Navy for the development of a unique CMS for the entire fleet of ships, independent of their configuration differences or missions and developed from its origin to the needs of the navy. 6

NAVANTIS ADVANCED SIMULATION NAVANTIS (NAVANtia Training Integrated System) NAVANTIS is the integrated training solution for ships designed by Navantia and equipped with Navantia Sistemas products. NAVANtia Training Integrated System is one step further to optimize full crews integrated training. By the use of NAVANTIS, a whole crew is able to jump aboard directly from the school and safely sail away. Autor: FAM NAVANTIS training stages are two: One e-learning based stage for operation and maintenance, and one second stage based on platform simulators hands-on exercises for operational training. Simulation models are developed in accordance with data produced in Navantia during ship design, production and test stages. Last generation graphic engine achieves a highly realistic visualization of the natural environment. An initial stage based on e-learning, for a first contact with the ship systems. This first stage allows access to mass training of as many members of the crew as is necessary. Since it is based on Web technology, it does not involve resources or take up specific premises, allowing the crews to become familiar with the tools needed to operate a vessel. A second in-depth stage is carried out using handson exercises, where the trainees operate, by means of highly realistic virtualized HMI interfaces, on realtime simulators. This second stage is for selected crew members with specific responsibilities and the training sessions take place in dedicated NAVANTIS classrooms. 9
NAVANTIS NAVANTIS Class Room The NAVANTIS classroom houses the equipment used to operate on the simulated vessels. Its main features are: It is modular and configurable; generic NAVANTIS hardware modules are arranged in the room to suit biggest platform and then specific software for each particular ship is loaded for every training session. A single classroom covers all singleship simulator training. Software specific modules provide particular ship HMI. Virtualized hardware panels are implemented at a high degree of detail resulting in a close familiarization with real hardware interfaces of each ship in particular. It integrates local platform systems operation training, remote platform operation training (IPMS), bridge crew training, Communications and more. It is inter-connectable with other NAVANTIS classrooms. It allows to impart collaborative training, so that the key members of the ship s crews interact together in the same session and face the same scenarios in a coordinated manner. The NAVANTIS facilities are multiuse since not only can they be of use as a training classroom, but also as an engineering laboratory to debrief real ship logs in order to study any real platform issue, discuss or develop new IPMS features and also test new IPMS versions before being installed on board. The disciplines which are contemplated as potential contributors to NAVANTIS are: The ship Platform equipment and systems (engines, rudders, pumps, valves,...) 10
FAM Report Integrated Platform Management System Navigation System. Communications System. Combat System NAVANTIS Training Levels NAVANTIS is structured with different training levels within a single product, LEVEL 1 Platform NAVANTIS teaches the crew how to operate the multiple ship platform equipment and systems that make up the ship Platform, combining the remote operation from the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) consoles, with the local operation at the equipment and system local operation panels. Mechanical, Electrical and Damage Control specialists will be able to execute control actions by acting on the remote interface (IPMS mimics) and from the local control panels (by means of virtualized physical panels). Above all, they will learn to coordinate among themselves and they will also gain a deep ship geographic knowledge of the physical environment where they will have to move. LEVEL 2 Platform - Navigation NAVANTIS has the capacity to simultaneously cover the Engine operators training and the Bridge operators training within the same ship, covering to the maximum detail all aspects each type of operator must know, but also contemplating the interrelations that there exist between the two worlds. For example, if while the Bridge operator is practicing a manoeuvre of entering and docking at the port, a problem rises in the power generation plant whose consequence is a black out of the ship, the Engine operator must know how to react to resolve the situation in the minimum possible time and recover bow thrusters availability to the Bridge operator. During this transitory risk situation there must exist a dialogue and coordination between both kinds of crews, which is necessary to have practiced in advance. Engine operators operate virtually from locations such as the machinery control room, the electrical switchboards or the engine rooms, and get a good
NAVANTIS vision of the ship from the inside. At the same time, the Bridge operators act virtually from the bridge and, through their windows and the navigation equipment located at the steering console (nautical charts, radar, AIS), get a vision of what happens outside the vessel. LEVEL 3 Ship to Ship NAVANTIS takes a step beyond the concept of integrated platform training, since it allows joint and coordinated training operations execution involving different vessels and crews. For example, landing crafts docking manoeuvres to and from amphibious transport vessels, practice any ship s RHIB surveillance missions or even ship to ship supply in Replenishment At Sea (RAS) manoeuvres. NAVANTIS power is particularly demonstrated with this last specific scenario since allows ship to ship bridge pilots coordination, together with crew engineers training on fluids or loads transfer once the connection is achieved. LEVEL 4 Combat System Once Navantia vessels training is fulfilled at platform and Navigation level, NAVANTIS can also incorporate other training solutions for systems or crafts existing on board. Full ship mission simulator is then complete. This is achieved since NAVANTIS has been developed using Military Scenario Definition Language (MSDL) and distributed simulator interface standards. Exercise situation is distributed via data-link simulation network to all participants, sharing virtual representation in a coordinated coherent way. FAM 12

P-45 Audaz & P-46 Furor NEW OPV,S FOR THE SPANISH NAVY The Spanish Maritime Action Ship (OPV in its international denomination) Audaz (P-45) is the fifth unit of these modern patrol vessels built by Navantia in its San Fernando shipyards (Cadiz). On the other hand, the P-46 Furor, the sixth of class, is under construction at the Navantia yard at El Ferrol in northwest Spain and is due for delivery at the end of this year. The Spanish Maritime Action Ship (OPV in its international denomination) Audaz (P-45) is the fifth unit of these modern patrol vessels built by Navantia in its San Fernando shipyards (Cadiz). The launching was sponsored by the Minister of Defense María Dolores de Cospedal who said that the capabilities of the first four units have been very successful, no matter the operation or scenario. This new OPV and her sister ship currently being built in Ferrol (NW Spain), reinforce the Spanish Navy capabilities on the one hand, and strengthen the role of Navantia as a major employer in the area. The Minister underlined the contribution of the Navy to the defense of Spain s national maritime interests, and she also highlighted that these ships are a good showcase of our shipbuilding industry. The launching ceremony was attended by the President of SEPI (State-owned corporate group) Pilar Platero, the President of Navantia José Manuel Revuelta, the Lady Mayor of San Fernando, Patricia Cavada, and the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral General Jaime Muñoz-Delgado, along with other civilian and military authorities. 14
Offshore Patrol Vessel Audaz The Audaz is the first unit of a new batch of two patrol vessels (BAM in its Spanish initials). The 93.9 meter long ship has an aft flight deck and an endurance of 35 days. The ship can operate with a small crew of 46 thanks to her modern Platform Control Integrated System. Of indigenous design, these offshore patrol vessels have successfully integrated into many international task groups in a wide variety of demanding scenarios.the main missions of these patrol boats include maritime security, fight against marine pollution, search and rescue (SAR), tracking of possible illegal activities and collaboration with other Constabulary and State departments with responsibilities in the maritime domain (counter-terrorism and drugtrafficking)., and fisheries and pollution control. P-46 "Furor" Navantia celebrated on September 14 at the Ferrol yard the BAM P-46 "Furor" sponsorship, for the Ministry of Defense and the Spanish Navy. It is the sixth of this type that is being built. The BAM "Furor" laid down took place on April 29, 2016 and the delivery is scheduled at the end of the year. FAM. 15
MILA and DDS-03 TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN The asset, an anchored military ship. The threat, a diver with an underwater demolition charge. The defence system, a diver detection sonar for surveillance. These three sentences summarize a scenario which is increasingly considered by navies around the world. SAES is a company that is seeing how the demand of these two systems is increasing. Special Forces and Navies need these two products in order to fill the gap in underwater surveillance when a ship must be protected the company asserts. SAES manufactures the MILA naval limpet mine and the DDS-03 Diver Detection Sonar, two essential systems for understanding and preventing these kind of risks. The threat, a diver with a demolition charge. MILA is a naval limpet mine that incorporates a computercontrolled detonation system. It is used by combat divers in covert underwater operations to neutralize threats. Its dimensions and light weight enable easy transport and deployment. The low hydrodynamic resistance 16
allows it to be used in longer distance operations. A single diver can carry two units. The underwater demolition charge can be programmed with the planned FFDDHH or a timer. Once the target point is reached, it is fixed in a matter of seconds using either the built-in magnet or an optional nail gun. If necessary, the device can be easily, quickly and accurately reprogrammed underwater, even in adverse scenarios such as low visibility or in darkness. MILA has a powerful magnet in order to fix to magnetic surfaces. Additionally, the nail-gun, made of stainless steel, is designed for fixing underwater to different types of surfaces. MILA is available not only in training version but also in combat versions. MILA combat version complies with NATO safety standards. It has undergone stringent qualification and operation tests at sea, obtaining excellent results in detonation tests against and 36 mm thick steel marine targets. The defence system: a diver detection sonar to surveillance. DDS-03 is a diver detection sonar which has given excellent performance in various operating scenarios even in unfavourable conditions like warm water, one of the main difficulties that can compromise the performance of any active sonar. The DDS-03 incorporates a tool to predict the detection range and to recommend the best depth to deploy the sonar. The system can easily deployed from the deck of an anchored vessel. Once the system is deployed, it continuously emits acoustic pulses, the echoes being received and analysed automatically. By detecting a threat and tracking it, an alert is automatically generated, indicating the position, speed, trajectory and type of contact, enabling the emission of a deterrent message to the diver in the water and the deployment of a patrol to the area. In addition, the system incorporates powerful processing algorithms to minimize false alarms. For additional information, please visit web page FAM. 17

NEWS FAM World Navies F-35BS LAND ON HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH FOR FIRST TIME EVER The UK has once again joined the club of aircraft carrier operating nations as first F-35Bs landed on the flight deck of HMS Queen Elizabeth. Royal Navy Commander Nathan Gray and RAF Squadron Leader Andy Edgell were the first pilots to make history by landing their F-35 Lightning stealth jets on the flight deck of Britain s newest carrier on September 25. Shortly afterwards, Commander Gray became the first pilot to take off using the ship s ski ramp. The flying operations mark the start of more than 500 take-offs and landings set to take place from the warship over the next 11 weeks. Able to embark up to 24 of the supersonic jets, HMS Queen Elizabeth provides the Royal Navy with a capability possessed by few others. Squadron Leader Edgell added: It has taken an indescribable level of dogged determination and perseverance to achieve this incredible moment. We have written a little piece of history today, but look beyond this and are focusing now on what will be an extensive period of F-35 testing at sea. The regeneration of big deck carriers able to operate globally, as we are proving here on this deployment, is a major step forward for the United Kingdom s defence and our ability to match the increasing pace of our adversaries. The first touch-downs of these impressive stealth jets shows how the United Kingdom will continue to be world leaders at sea for generations to come. HMS Queen Elizabeth left her home port of Portsmouth in August, crossing the Atlantic to conduct the flying trials as well as training with the US Navy. The deployment has also provided an opportunity for the UK s Carrier Strike Group headquarters team to sharpen their skills in a task group, having been joined on the deployment by Type 23 frigate HMS Monmouth, and a US Arleigh Burke-class destroyer the USS Lassen.More than 1,400 sailors, flight crew and Royal Marines have been working on board the carrier during her deployment. HMS Queen Elizabeth is on track to deploy on global operations from Meanwhile, the UK has now taken delivery of 16 out of a planned 138 F-35 jets as part of its world-leading fleet of military aircraft for use by the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. FAM The jets will be put through their paces over the coming weeks in a range of sea and weather conditions. Having then completed the trials, which are taking place off the east coast of the United States, the giant aircraft carrier is expected to visit New York. The commanding officer of HMS Queen Elizabeth, Captain Jerry Kyd, said: I am quite emotional to be here in HMS Queen Elizabeth seeing the return of fixed-wing aviation, having been the captain of the aircraft carrier which launched the last Harrier at sea nearly eight years ago. ECA TEAMS UP WITH MAURIC TO OFFER DRONE-SPECIALIZED MCM MOTHERSHIPS French autonomous systems specialist ECA Group joined forces with maritime solution provider MAURIC to design a patrol vessel-sized ship specialized for carrying and deploying mine countermeasure autonomous vessel of all sizes. The design is named Octopoda and comes in two ranges, a 30-meter Octopoda 300 and a larger, 50-meter Octopoda 500. Integrated with UMIS system of surface and underwater robots, the Octopoda models allow operators to stay out of harm s way during MCM missions. The UMIS is a complete system of different drones that can collaborate within the same mission to carry out each step of a mine clearance mission: detection, identification and destruction. Octopoda operates outside the minefield, so that it does not have to comply with demanding specifications relating to acoustic and electromagnetic signature, and shock resistance. To design the first vessels in the Octopoda range, MAURIC s naval architects focused specifically on two fundamental aspects concerning integration of naval drones: the integration of launch and recovery systems that are effective even in high sea states, and the ergonomics of the drone deployment zones on board the vessel. So the Octopoda vessels have been designed around these zones (aft deck, drone storage and maintenance hangar, drone system control center). The Octopoda 300 makes it possible to deploy a naval drone system from a vessel that is just 30 meters in length, according to ECA Group. The system consists of two A9-M AUVs, identification robots and destruction MIDS (mine identification and destruction system) consisting of 2 SEASCANs and 6 K-STER Cs. These underwater robots can be deployed from Octopoda 300 or a 7m Rhib nested in an aft ramp. The Octopoda 300 also comprises a small landing platform making it possible to deploy a IT 180 UAV lightweight drone. The design incorporates a specific hangar with direct access to the aft deck and a control center with a bird s eye view of the deployment zone, the objectives of which are to simplify handling of the robots and optimize operability of the entire UMISTM system. Octopoda 500 allows for launch and recovery of a 12-meter INSPECTOR 120 USV from an aft ramp. By adding this USV it is possible to deploy AUVs (two A9-Ms, two SEASCANs and ten K-STER Cs) in autonomous mode, and therefore penetrate further into the minefield. The UAV landing platform is larger and therefore makes it possible to land the IT 180 in more difficult sea states. FAM 22
