36 GLOSSARY POWERTRAIN AND DRIVING DYNAMICS JAGUAR SEQUENTIAL SHIFT Provides the choice of Drive, Sport, Automatic or Manual gearshift modes, with one touch paddles mounted behind the steering wheel to control gear changes up and down manually. JAGUARDRIVE CONTROL Offers different modes selectable by a button to optimise the vehicle response depending on driving conditions and style. DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC) Intervenes in demanding driving situations by applying braking to individual wheels and reducing engine torque. ADAPTIVE DYNAMICS Continuously monitors the road and driver inputs and optimises the car's suspension settings for ride comfort and control. The Remote Essentials App enables you to monitor your XJ through your smartphone, for example to check the fuel level or to confirm whether or not it is locked. INCONTROL REMOTE PREMIUM InControl Remote Premium provides access to your XJ through your smartphone while you are away from it. You can remotely set the climate control to pre-warm or cool the car by starting the engine before you get in. You can also lock and unlock the car, and beep and flash to determine its location. INCONTROL SECURE InControl Secure detects any illegal movement of your XJ to alert you and liaise with the authorities to pinpoint the vehicle's whereabouts. AIRBAG AND SEAT OCCUPANT SENSING SYSTEM Side airbags, curtain airbags and two-stage driver and front passenger airbags, all controlled by a seat occupant sensing system to ensure they work only when needed. The Anti-Whiplash System, built into the XJ's front seats and 'soft-landing' technology in the seat-belt retractors soften contact with the airbags in the front. PEDESTRIAN CONTACT SENSING SYSTEM Senses an impact between a pedestrian and the front of the car. It instantaneously raises the bonnet through a small distance in a very controlled way, to help prevent the pedestrian from contacting hard points under the bonnet. JAGUAR SMART KEY SYSTEM With the Jaguar Smart Key in your pocket or bag, the car automatically unlocks as you pull the door handle. Simply push the ignition button to start the engine. Jaguar's flagship XJ model was the first in the company to achieve ISO14040, the international standard for vehicle 'life cycle assessment'. This certification measures the environmental impact of XJ from component material sourcing and manufacturing process, through driving 200,000 km. But that's not all. Every new Jaguar is designed to be 85% Recyclable/Reusable and 95% Recoverable at the end of the vehicle's life. The All-New XF, XE, XJ, F-TYPE and XK's innovative use of lightweight aluminium, which incorporates up to 50% closed-loop recycled material from the manufacturing process of the bodystructures, provides considerable performance benefits. This includes improved fuel consumption and less CO₂ emissions during the use phase of the Life Cycle due to lighter structures. Our on-going target is to ensure scrap aluminium reclaimed from our stamping process is to be segregated and recycled through a closed loop system and re-melted into the same grade quality sheet, therefore reducing CO₂ emissions during the production phase of the Life Cycle. Jaguar is committed to reducing dependency on fossil fuels, using fewer resources and creating less waste as part of our approach to sustainability excellence.
