44 GLOSSARY A ACTIVE SPORTS EXHAUST This system features active valves which, when open, allow the exhaust gases to exit via a more direct route through the rear silencer, bypassing a number of the silencer baffle-plates to produce a richer, more exhilarating noise. The system also allows the driver to use a button on the centre console (available as an option) to manually activate the bypass valves. ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING Sensors react to the car's speed and steering input, and the system can deflect headlamp beams casting light deeper into corners, giving added confidence at night. Cornering lights illuminate areas to the side of the car at low speeds when the indicators are in use, or at larger steering angles, for example when parking. ALL WHEEL DRIVE WITH INTELLIGENT DRIVELINE DYNAMICS All Wheel Drive (AWD) works alongside Jaguar's Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) system to constantly analyse the car's behaviour and deploys appropriate power to optimise traction and stability. IDD uses the F-TYPE's electronic sensors, to detect impending understeer or oversteer and swiftly redirects power to the appropriate axle to adjust the car's trajectory through a corner. The system enhances the F-TYPE's traction and cornering capabilities, providing outstanding levels performance and control, whatever the conditions. B BLIND SPOT MONITOR WITH CLOSING VEHICLE SENSING Blind Spot Monitoring uses radar sensors to remotely cover areas that cannot be seen either directly or by mirror, and helps alert the driver of overtaking traffic with an amber warning icon in the external mirrors. Closing Vehicle Sensing extends the monitoring zone rearwards from the blind spot zone to a distance of approximately 60m, helping alert the driver of fast-approaching vehicles in adjacent lanes. BRAKING SYSTEM The F-TYPE's braking system has been optimised for both performance and light weight, whilst delivering reassuring performance. The system offers up to a 21kg weight saving, further reducing the unsprung mass of the car with corresponding benefits to both ride and handling. Derived from motorsport technology and featuring monobloc calipers with 6 pistons at the front and 4 pistons at the rear, this is the most powerfully performing braking system ever fitted to a Jaguar road car. Carbon Ceramic Braking System Front Disc Diameter 398mm Rear Disc Diameter 380mm CONFIGURABLE DYNAMIC MODE WITH DYNAMIC-I DISPLAY This system allows the driver to determine which characteristics are altered when Dynamic Mode is selected including engine responsiveness, steering, gear shift time and suspension settings (where Adaptive Dynamics is specified). The Dynamic-i display system allows the driver to display a range of performance information, including a stop watch with split times, brake and acceleration telemetry and a G-meter. CRUISE CONTROL WITH SPEED LIMITER (ASL) In tandem with Cruise Control, an Automatic Speed Limiter (ASL) allows the driver to select a maximum speed that should not be exceeded. D DYNAMIC MODE By selecting Dynamic Mode the engine torque delivery characteristics are modified to sharpen accelerator pedal response. With the gearbox in Sport Mode the auto upshift points are raised while in Sequential Mode the gearbox will not auto upshift, with gear shifts becoming firmer and shorter. Steering assistance is also reduced for more steering 'feel'. Dynamic Mode also optimises the car's Adaptive Dynamic suspension settings to deliver a more involving driving experience. DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC) Intervenes in demanding driving situations by applying braking to individual wheels and reducing engine torque. E ELECTRIC POWER ASSISTED STEERING (EPAS) The EPAS system's sensors are used to measure the driver's steering force, steering wheel angle, the speed with which it's being rotated, as well as gauging the car's road speed. Sophisticated software is used to determine the ideal amount of steering assistance to provide. This results in precise feedback for the driver ensuring that the F-TYPE's steering feels communicative, direct and connected. As the system only provides steering assistance when required, it also draws less power from the engine when compared to conventional hydraulic based systems, resulting in increased efficiency and reduced emissions. ELECTRONIC ACTIVE DIFFERENTIAL An Electronic Active Differential is standard on F-TYPE R and F-TYPE SVR. It is operated by an electric motor acting on a multi-plate clutch which can transfer torque to the wheel with the most grip. Fully automatic in operation, the system can apply full locking torque almost instantaneously. Working in conjunction with the stability, traction and ABS systems it allows for very fine control of power delivery and makes optimal use of available grip. By connecting a smartphone with a USB cable to the dedicated InControl Apps USB slot, a selection of popular smartphone apps, optimised for in-vehicle use, can be operated using the car's Touchscreen. INCONTROL REMOTE InControl Remote includes SOS Emergency Call and is designed to alert the relevant services to your exact location in the event of an airbag deployment. Alternatively you can press the SOS Emergency Call button in the car to request assistance.it also provides Optimised Jaguar Assistance to transmit your location and vehicle diagnostic data to help minimise delays to your journey. The InControl Remote App enables you to monitor your F-TYPE through your smartphone to check fuel levels and whether or not, it is locked. It also allows you to remotely pre-heat or pre-cool the car and lock/unlock your car. INCONTROL SECURE InControl Secure detects any unauthorised movement of your F-TYPE to alert you and liaise with the authorities to pinpoint the vehicle's whereabouts. INTELLIGENT HIGH BEAM ASSIST Intelligent High Beam Assist detects ambient light levels and oncoming traffic, switching automatically between high and dipped beams, when required. J JAGUAR 180W SOUND SYSTEM 180W with AM/FM radio controlled through the Touchscreen and Interactive Controls. Powered by a dedicated 8-channel amplifier featuring Audyssey MultEQ. audio equalisation and Dynamic Volume Control, that actively compensates for cabin noise. This amplifier powers 6 speakers. JAGUAR QUICKSHIFT TRANSMISSION The Quickshift 8-speed Automatic transmission is both fast and refined, with 8 closely spaced ratios keeping the engine within its most effective rev range for longer. The transmission's control system is both intelligent and adaptive, monitoring the driving situation together with the demands the driver is making of the car and responding to modify the gear shift strategy, ensuring the right gear is selected for every situation. N NAVIGATION SYSTEM1 Postcode entry, destination entry on the move (Europe only), voice guidance, RDS and TMC (Traffic Messaging Channel)/Dynamic Route guidance, accessed through Touchscreen control system. On approach to a junction or turning, navigation information will be displayed in the instrument cluster. P PEDESTRIAN CONTACT SENSING SYSTEM Industry-leading system that senses an impact between a pedestrian and the front of the car. It instantaneously raises the bonnet through a small distance in a very controlled way, to help prevent the pedestrian from contacting hard points under the bonnet. R RAIN/ICE/SNOW MODE This mode moderates the responsiveness of the engine and optimises the gear change strategy to improve traction when road conditions are icy or adverse. When active, Rain/Ice/Snow Mode selects second gear for pulling away on level ground. In these conditions and in this mode the vehicle increases driver confidence by reducing the effect of the road conditions on the vehicle behaviour. REAR PARKING AID Rear parking assistance with Touchscreen visual indicator. REVERSE PARK CAMERA WITH GUIDANCE Combining a rear-facing camera with the Touchscreen information, it features coloured distance guides and on-screen guidance lines that move according to steering wheel angle to indicate the area into which the car will reverse. REVERSE TRAFFIC DETECTION The Reverse Traffic Detection system assists when reversing the car out of a parking space. Sensors in the rear of the car help detect vehicles approaching from either direction. S SINGLE SLOT CD/DVD2 Single slot CD/DVD is capable of playing video and audio discs. File formats include Windows Media Audio (WMA), AAC and MP3. Only available with Meridian 770W Surround Sound System. SPORTS SUSPENSION WITH ADAPTIVE DYNAMICS This system features a series of sensors placed about the car which measure vertical body movement, body roll and pitch 100 times a second, and can individually adjust each damper to help maintain a constant and level attitude. The system also measures steering input 500 times a second and is therefore able to predict the body's roll rate, and adjust the corresponding dampers to reduce the rate of body roll. Similarly when the driver presses the brake or throttle pedals the system can predict the amount of pitch and can stiffen the front or rear dampers to reduce the amount of dive or squat accordingly. Benefits of the system include improved body control; improved 'pitching' behaviour; improved handling and agility as well as rapid detection and reaction to critical driving conditions and driver demands. T TORQUE VECTORING BY BRAKING The F-TYPE's Torque Vectoring technology uses controlled braking on the inside rear wheel whilst feeding more power to the outside rear wheel, helping to increase steering performance and inspire even greater driver confidence. On F-TYPE R and F-TYPE SVR the system works in conjunction with the Electronic Active Differential to improve cornering capabilities and driver control.
