It also includes a visual gear change recommendation for improved fuel consumption. The BlueMotion offers impressive environmental credentials by intelligently refining existing technology. Dynamic lines reduce the vehicle s air resistance and, combined with engineering refinements, rear boot spoiler on Saloon models, lowered suspension and battery regeneration (recuperation energy recovery during braking) help produce exceptional economy. A Start/Stop function automatically stops the engine when the vehicle is stationary, in neutral and the clutch released and informs you by displaying a symbol on the multifunction computer, then cleverly restarts it when you depress the clutch to select first gear. Automatic range adjustment, for example, provides wider or longer beams of light depending on your speed, while dynamic curve lighting ensures the headlights follow your steering movement, providing better illumination on bends. 10 01 The robust matt chrome effect underbody protection gives the Passat Estate Alltrack s front and rear its distinctive, purist off-road design, and when you choose the 2.0 TDI 177 PS DSG engine, twin chrome exhaust tailpipes complete the rugged style. Uneven ground or urban parking space, parking sensors both front and rear provide driver confidence whatever the manoeuvre. 02 The Passat Estate Alltrack with intelligent 4MOTION four wheel drive as standard, distributes power to all four wheels as required and ensures optimum traction. 03 Anthracite wheel arch protection, side sill protection in anthracite and matt chrome effect and the structural design of the 18 inch Canyon alloy wheels with 225/45 R18 ContiSeal (self-sealing) tyres make each, and every one of your trips, even more stylish. 04 The Passat Estate Alltrack is instantly recognisable by its Gloss Black radiator grille with matt chrome louvres, as well as matt chrome detailing on front fog light surrounds, door mirrors, roof rails, window surrounds and underbody protection. Model shown features optional Bi-xenon headlights and metallic paint. 05 The 2.0 litre TDI 177 PS DSG engine features XDS, an extension of the well-known Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) function. This is linked to the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) hydraulics and works by applying pressure to the inner front wheel during fast cornering to prevent wheelspin. Optional on 2.0 litre TDI 140 PS engine. The Passat Estate Alltrack comes with the addition of four wheel drive 4MOTION and increased ground clearance giving it greater agility off-road, while body enhancements provide some protection from scrapes when covering rough terrain. Inside, a tyre pressure monitoring system alerts you of any change in tyre pressure. Smart ideas for sustainable driving. Start/Stop technology saves fuel and therefore cuts emissions by automatically switching off the engine when the car isn t in motion. Brake energy recuperation system saves fuel by making the most of energy that s usually lost when you brake. Turbocharged engines deliver more power when you need it and use less fuel when you don t. 13 01 The most important consideration for any driver is safety. That s why it s so reassuring to drive the Passat. With a whole range of safety features included as standard, the Passat provides the highest levels of safety possible, ensuring optimum protection in hazardous situations. 01 Driver fatigue is a major cause of road accidents, accounting for up to 20% of serious accidents on monotonous roads, such as motorways, in Great Britain. Fatigue related crashes are often more severe than others because the driver s reaction times are delayed or they have failed to make any manoeuvres to avoid a crash. With these facts in mind, Volkswagen has developed the Driver Alert system which gives an early warning of when you need to take a break on long and tiring journeys, making motorway driving safer. The system works by monitoring driver behaviour closely, noting any erratic steering wheel movements and lane deviations. If the system detects an erratic or unusual driving pattern, it will alert you with a visual display on the dashboard and an audible warning sound, and if you haven t taken a break within 15 minutes, it will repeat the warnings. The Driver Alert system is just one of a number of Volkswagen s innovative driver assistance systems, designed to make driving easier, more comfortable and, above all, safer. Standard on Executive, Executive Style and Alltrack models. Optional on all other models as part of cruise control or as part of Automatic Cruise Control (ACC) on S models. 02 The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) recognises critical driving situations and reacts in milliseconds by targeting brake and management systems, controlling the speed of individual wheels and helping to bring the vehicle under control. As a result the vehicle achieves maximum directional stability. Standard on all models. 03 Optional Side scan makes motorway driving safer by helping to prevent accidents when you want to change lanes. The radar system monitors the areas to the left and right of the car and up to 50 metres behind it, and should it detect a potentially hazardous situation, it warns you by means of flashing warning lights in the door mirror housing. Optional on all models. Side scan must be ordered in conjunction with Convenience pack on S and BlueMotion models. 02 traction, reduce understeer and improve responses, thus making cornering even more sporty, safe and accurate. Lane Assist must be ordered in conjunction with Convenience pack on S and BlueMotion models. Standard on Executive Style and optional on all other models. 06 The standard airbag system consists of driver s and front passenger s airbags with front passenger s airbag deactivation switch, curtain airbags for front and rear occupants, and seat side impact airbags in the front. Together with seat belts, airbags reduce the risk of serious head and chest injuries: as soon as the crash sensors register a collision, a gas generator fills the airbags within 30 to 40 milliseconds. The activated airbags then cushion the head and upper part of the body, distributing the impact of the collision over as wide an area as possible and ensuring less forward movement of the neck, significantly reducing risk of whiplash and injury. 07 The 2.0 TDI 177 PS engines now feature XDS, an extension of the well-known Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) function. This is linked to the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) hydraulics and works by applying pressure to the inner front wheel during fast cornering to prevent wheel-spin. The latest TDI engines, for example, are equipped with common rail technology, ensuring high torque along with low fuel consumption. TSI petrol engines follow the downsizing principle, using low capacity, highly sophisticated turbocharging and precise direct injection to deliver maximum power and exceptional fuel economy. When utilised with BlueMotion Technologies such as the Start/Stop function, which momentarily switches off the engine when the vehicle is stationary and in neutral and starts it again as you depress the clutch and battery regeneration, which recuperates energy under braking and acceleration to boost the alternator both fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions are further reduced dramatically. 01 TDI are three letters that have acquired legendary significance, symbolising high torque, low consumption and quiet performance. TDI diesel engines utilise common rail technology and are fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which filters out exhaust elements that are harmful to the environment, significantly reducing diesel emissions as a result. 02 Volkswagen s technologically advanced TSI engines combine excellent driveability with impressive fuel economy. The combination of direct fuel injection and intelligent turbocharging technology allows petrol engines with TSI technology to work particularly efficiently, offering such advantages as high performance, high torque and reduced fuel consumption. 03 Externally, Volkswagen s BlueMotion and badging identifies the cleanest, most energy-efficient cars in our range. This state-of-the art system responds to spoken voice commands for navigation, CD and radio functions. The 30 GB hard drive is preloaded with navigation data and it also plays DVDs (when the vehicle is stationary) and music from the DVD drive, 30 GB hard drive or via an SD card. 16 Automatic Cruise Control (ACC) and the radar sensor controlled Front Assist system adapt your speed to that of the vehicle ahead and maintain a constant distance set by the driver. If Front Assist detects you are getting too close to the vehicle in front, it will warn you in two stages: visually and acoustically, and will then automatically start braking, to a standstill if necessary. Optional on all models except BlueMotion. S models include Driver Alert system. Not in conjunction with 1.4 litre TSI 122 PS or 1.6 litre TDI 105 PS engines. 02 The Keyless entry system enables you to enter your vehicle and even start the engine using a button in the centre console, without taking the key out of your pocket. In addition, this option on Passat Saloon models can also be specified with hands free boot opening which uses a sensor beneath the rear bumper, so having your hands full while trying to open your boot is no longer a chore. Estate models (excluding Alltrack) can also be specified with hands free tailgate opening as well as featuring an electric tailgate. 03 Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) allows you to select Sport, Comfort or Normal settings for your journey with a touch of a button, and adapts the damping control and shock absorption rate to the road conditions and driving style you require within milliseconds. Optional on all models except BlueMotion. 04 Bi-xenon headlights feature dynamic curve lighting and automatic range adjustment providing better illumination of the road ahead, on bends and when turning. LED daytime running lights are a striking feature and LED rear tail lights ensure your vehicle is more visible during the day. As an added convenience, headlight washers keep your headlights free from dirt at all times. Standard on Executive Style and optional on all other models. On S, BlueMotion and Executive models, this option also includes front fog lights. Bi-Xenon headlights not in conjunction with High Beam Assist. 05 Volkswagen s Park Assist system has long made parallel parking significantly easier. However, this system combines conventional Park Assist with the added functionality of reverse parking into a space at 90 to the kerb. The driver activates the system by pressing a button on the centre console. Using ultrasonic parking sensors, Park Assist will detect a large enough parking space for either reverse or parallel parking and the assisted parking process can begin. Having put the vehicle into reverse, all the driver has to do is operate the accelerator, clutch and brake, while keeping a good lookout. The Passat then takes care of the steering into its chosen space. Further improvements mean Park Assist can now parallel park in particularly small spaces only 0.8m longer than the vehicle. Optional on all models. 06 The large electric glass panoramic sunroof allows in three times more light into the Passat Estate than a conventional sunroof, providing an extra dimension of light and space. An electric tilting only sunroof is also available for Saloon models (not shown).
