After some teething pains, the first Pontiac car was introduced in The first model, the series 6-27 made it's debut at the New York Auto Show. Built on a 110 inch wheelbase, it featured a Fisher designed body and a six cylinder L- head engine. The two closed models, a coupe and a sedan were able to achieve a top speed of 50 mph. Until the Pontiac debuted, most cars had fabric tops, leaving the passengers little protection from the elements and road debris. As it turns out, Pontiac's decision to produce only closed cars was warmly welcomed by customers. Priced at $825, Pontiac sold 76,742 cars in it's first year on the market. The following August, it offered a four-door landau sedan at $895. In 1927, GM asked Harley Earl to create "Art & Color" studio within the corporation, and it was the industry's first formal design studio. Earl designed the highly successful La Salle, and later became the head of GM Design. Art & Color designed all GM models, including Pontiac. Calendar year production of Series 6-27 cars was 127,883 in In late 1927, Pontiac unveiled the Series 6-28, it's first model change. The company added a third assembly line at the "daylight" plant, as well as a new $5 million foundry. The 6-28 had a new cross-flow radiator, a Pontiac first, which became the industry standard. The division introduced the famous Indian-head-in-silhouette emblem, which remained the standard Pontiac logo for almost 30 years. Pontiac sold 184, s in the debut year. Next month: 1929 and beyond. The Great Depression challenges auto makers. Our meeting for May will be at JBA. Come early to get a tour. The club will provide the chow. May 25th is the All-American Car Show in Escondido honoring our very own DMAC! July 5th is our night for Cruzin' Grand. Super Duty and High Output!!!

3 VOLUME 5, ISSUE 5 PAGE 3 MOTOR CARS ON MAIN STREET APRIL 28, 2013 Sunday April 28th was the day for the annual Motor Cars on Main St. show in Coronado. This is always a great show with a unique showing of cars usually not seen at any other show in San Diego. Club members Jeff and Dyanna Gallagher and Dave and Cindy Keetch braved the elements (oh those nasty clouds!) and attended the show, (although rumor has it there was only one Pontiac on display ). Thanks to the Gallagher s for providing the pictures! 3

The day started with breakfast at the Apple Country restaurant in Santa Ysabel. A full crew turned out and collected many bags of highway refuse. No word if Dave Keetch came home with another trophy or other roadside gem! Thanks to all who pitched in and big props go out to JC for keeping this community event going since 2000! 5

Member J Bittle has offered up his shop for our meeting while the Sizzler restaurant undergoes some renovations. Meeting starts at 7 PM on Tuesday, May 14th. J has a shop full of really cool high performance projects underway so come early and check out the impressive vehicles being serviced! JBA Speed Shop has had a fun spring time with lots of Hot Poncho action...daily. Here you see Larry and Ralph a couple of JBA GTO regulars enjoying Coffee and Cars on the Mesa last month. PONCHO ACTION AT JBA! The March JBA Dyno Day was a big Pontiac good time with both old and new, naturally aspirated and blown Goats tearing up the JBA chassis dyno rollers as well. 7
8 VOLUME 5, ISSUE 5 PAGE 8 JBA NEWS AND STUFF This 2 X in this beautiful '64 GTO owned by Don Shelton built and tuned by JBA laid down over 550 ft/lbs of Torque and 475 HP for Don's old school Offy "dual quad" automatic transmission cruiser. Finally on the JBA engine Dyno our clubs own John Tolerico heats up the dyno cell and the DTS Engine Dyno with ASE Master Engine Machinist/Assembler and Pontiac Guru Doc John Elderhorst making over 500 flywheel horsepower on the way back toward his 1969 " Bird". This JBA 455 engine was built originally ten years ago by John and the JBA crew and with the new Butler rear main, some fresh paint and new distributor it is ready for another 10 years at over 500 HP! 8
