Beard played at Samford from 1982 to 1985 after transferring from Tulane. In three seasons, the 6-foot-6 forward from Birmingham scored 1,914 points without the benefi t of the 3-point shot. Beard is the single-season leader in scoring with 703 points during the campaign. One of the most pivotal players in the revival of Samford basketball, Beard scored in double fi gures in 84 consecutive games. Head Coach Jimmy Tillette picked up his 200th career victory Dec. 22, 2009, with a win at Eastern Michigan. 100
