3 FOCAL signs the Premium Hi-Fi Option for the new PEUGEOT 508 The new PEUGEOT 508, revealed to the press on the 22 nd of February 2018, is equipped with an optional Hi-Fi audio system signed by FOCAL. After concept-cars since 2015 and PEUGEOT 3008 / 5008 SUVs, then 4008 in China, the new PEUGEOT 508 offers the FOCAL Premium French acoustic expertise. Thanks to a revisited PEUGEOT i-cockpit, which is resolutely top of the range, combined with use of exclusive technological units that have led to the success of the FOCAL Premium Hi-Fi system in its previous vehicles, the audio system in this fastback continues to expand the limits of on-board comfort, for an intense and multi-sensoral driving experience. WHEN DESIGN ENHANCES SOUND... Jumping aboard the new PEUGEOT 508 is like going into another world, full of surprises, originality, and genuine quality. Largely inspired from the INSTINCT concept car, also fitted with a FOCAL sound system, the interior design of the new PEUGEOT 508 is all about sound. Cabin, doors, windows, but also speaker drivers grilles all meet the specific requirements of FOCAL. Designers, engineers and sound technicians all worked hand in hand throughout the project for over three years so as to design a system integrated into a cockpit perfectly adapted and with high added value. They also used the experience gained with the design of the PEUGEOT SUVs 3008 and 5008 for implementation of a top of the range Hi-Fi system in a series model.

4 questions 3for the FOCAL team regarding integration of their system into the PEUGEOT 508 How has the collaboration between the two brands enhanced the performance of the FOCAL Premium Hi-Fi system? The integration of the FOCAL audio system in this vehicle goes even further in the new PEUGEOT 508. The design of each element assists the acoustic result: FOCAL and PEUGEOT teams innovated on this, so as to have increased efficiency in the Premium Hi-Fi system within the vehicle. One of the entry points to be taken into account was the presence of a frameless door. This imposed that we worked on a tweeter position within the door area, which is not the usual location for a tweeter at FOCAL. We found the ideal balance using design: a very specific brushed metal grille was designed. Its progressive rate of opening allows for obstacle free distribution for extrem high and low frequencies and offsets the usual lateralisation effects. FOCAL PREMIUM HI-FI SYSTEM THE SOUND SIGNATURE 'À LA FRANÇAISE' EXCELLENCE IN DETAILS Another detail to be highlighted is in the design of the PEUGEOT i-cockpit, with its dual-level dashboard design, which allowed for location of speakers without any obstacle to sound distribution. Consequently, the touchscreen is set into the dashboard. Its discrete nature makes it an additional ally to acoustic accuracy and purity. Many elements of the design simply consolidate the acoustic quality criteria of the new PEUGEOT 508. The sound performance and spatialisation obtained will enhance the passenger and driver experience, for boundless sensory pleasure. The FOCAL Premium Hi-Fi system is intended to be a clear asset, for top of the range models on this sporty fastback, with solid ambitions in its sector. Which other elements of the design helped the sound? Another key point was the design of the door itself, which is very effective from an acoustic point of view thanks to an optimal assembly solution. The window lifting motorisation system is located in a dry area. This is a structural choice which minimises the naturally present opening surface area for assembly within the door. This led to a more rigid door than the average for the new PEUGEOT 508, which allowed for optimal exploitation of basses. We can also note the wise positioning of the subwoofer. Placing this on the right side of the boot offers the best angle, which reduces the sound pressure generated within the vehicle. As a result, there are extreme basses, which are powerful, despite a woofer volume limited to just 10.4 litres. The central channel is very visible and high on the dashboard. This is relatively surprising, does it also help acoustics? The central channel is indeed very present, from an aesthetic and acoustic perspective. This purposeful particularity allowed us to push the distribution of acoustic energy and therefore the sound to a scale, height and stability never seen before. This choice makes for a rather atypical and stand-out dashboard. This 'detail' is also a strong sign, showing that designers have accepted to make the sound within the vehicle visible for the benefit of the audio output. What a pleasure! With only 10 speakers in the car and 515 Watts available, we believe at Focal that we have made one of the very best Premium Hi-Fi systems on board any vehicle and bespoke to the market! 6 7

The collaboration between two French brands around PEUGEOT concept cars dates back to From the outset, it was all about developing the future of on-board sound. Coming from the overview of research around speakers, digital solutions, as well as being influenced by connectivity and design, adaptation of audio solutions to vehicle architecture is always unique, with sound performance and spatialisation always more extreme. It was normal to allow drivers to benefit from this research led on concept cars. Since 2016, it has been used to serve cars for the general public, such as the SUV models PEUGEOT 3008/5008/4008, and today the all new generation PEUGEOT 508. ZOOM ON INSTINCT It is the design and location of the Hi-Fi system which, since the project outset, benefited from the expertise of FOCAL and progress already made in the SUV models 3008/5008/4008. The new PEUGEOT 508 further expands the limits of the on-board Hi-Fi experience. Presented in 2017, PEUGEOT INSTINCT is the autonomous concept of the French automobile constructor. Autonomous driving is the next automobile revolution. Its level of connectivity allows for continuous listening to music without break from the house to the car...
