Austin Heavy Twelve-Four - Airways Blue AHT001 1: Austin Heavy Twelve-Four - Airways Blue Brand new Oxford tooling introduces the Austin Heavy 12/4 to the range of 1:43 scale cars from the inter-wars era. Launched in 1921, it was the second of Herbert Austin s post WWI models and until it ceased production in 1939, over 88,000 were produced. It was initially available as a Tourer with four seat and two/four seat styles, both costing 550, as well as a coupe version which cost slightly more at 675. The car was highly popular during the 1920s and while the mechanical specifications did not change very much, there were several body styles of the Heavy 12 including a taxi option which lasted until the end of the 1930s. Body style variations included the replacement of fabriccovered pram hood tops in 1931 and no open cars at all after The wheels also had a makeover when the solid wheels were replaced with wire spoked wheels in In 1940, the War Department took the last of the 12/4 cars that Austin produced. Our version, resplendent in authentic Airways Blue, comes with the fabric top and spoked wheels, with radiator surround and bonnet detail, lights, door handles, mirrors, wind surround and wheel centres all commonly known as brightwork - picked out on this model in polished brass finish. Future standard releases on the Oxford Heavy 12/4 will come in the nickel plated finish. Other features including the mudguards and running board are finished in black. Note too, the spare wheel on the back, as well as one or two extra parts on this first release off the new tool. No wonder this elegant yet sporty vintage classic attracted over 14,000 of the real thing being sold in 1927.

Jaguar XK150 Roadster - Old English White We announced the newly tooled Jaguar XK150, and its place in Britain s history of prestige cars, in the last issue, with the promise that the Roadster would follow shortly. Here it is - and splendid she looks too, with incredible attention to detail! In Old English White, with red upholstery and authentic wire wheels, this second release comes as an open tourer version. In real life, XYH 720 has been immaculately restored by her proud owner. The highly detailed interior of our model extends to the intricately reproduced door panels, dashboard and instrument panel. Bedford CA Ice Cream Van - Mr Softee In 1957 the Managing Director of Smith s Delivery Vehicles (supplier of ice cream vans to Lyons) was on a sales trip to the United States and saw the new Mister Softee mobile ice cream operation. He secured the rights to the Mister Softee ice cream brand in the United Kingdom, reached an agreement with Lyons and a joint venture was formed. The first mobile ice cream vehicle was launched at the 1958 Commercial Motor Show, Earls Court. Mister Softee was run as a franchise operation with the first vans operating in the South West London/Kent borders in the Spring of With an initial cost of 3,200, a Mister Softee van cost as much as six or seven conventional Lyons Maid vans. Mister Softee went from strength to strength and by 1961 had already established 34 locations in England and one in Wales. Lyons knew they had a winner and decided to take control of the whole business, bringing the whole Mister Softee operation under the umbrella of Glacier Foods Ltd, a Lyons subsidiary. Mister Softee by now had become a Lyons flagship brand with depots nationwide and franchised operations abroad. 4 1:76 Land Rover - Gwynedd Health Authority The legendary Land Rover was first launched in 1948 and was the brainchild of Maurice Wilks, the Rover Company s Chief Engineer at the time. The Series I 88" versions were manufactured at the Rover factory and were all petrol engined. The suffix 88" refers to the wheelbase dimensions. The versatile Land Rover was used extensively by the emergency services, many already modelled in the Oxford Diecast range. This latest version, registered RGC 953, is decorated in the unusual colour scheme of grey with deep yellow roof as used by the Gwynedd Health Authority in North Wales. It features the blue roof light and bell that you have already seen on previous fire appliance versions and has the distinctive Land Rover Series I 88" radiator grille. Note too, the bi-lingual signage on the sides Welsh on the offside and English on the nearside and the detailed, colourful crest on the doors. 8 Douglas Dauntless Tooling! AC022 1: Douglas Dauntless SBD-5 The Douglas Dauntless flown by Major Christian C Lee, US, in the Virgin Islands, in May The Douglas Dauntless was a US Navy carrier-borne dive-bomber manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company at their El Segundo plant. Between its introduction in 1940 until July 1944 when production ceased, just under 6000 SBD Dauntless were manufactured. During this time, the aircraft was the US Navy s key divebomber and although slow and somewhat out of date when it began its combat career, it was rugged and dependable, which was reflected in its performance against the Japanese shipping, particularly in the Pacific, where it succeeded in sinking more Japanese shipping than any other Allied aircraft in WWII. The Oxford Douglas Dauntless, as flown by US Pilot Major Christian C Lee, is painted with a dark grey upper with an off white rear fuselage and underside, both of which feature its US markings in dark blue and white. An extra detail worthy of note on this model includes the fine replication of the extended trailing edge dive brakes a key feature on the actual aircraft. The propeller is painted black with yellow tips and a silver spinner and the exhaust pipes echo realism in rusty brown! Kittyhawk MkIA as flown by Sqn Ldr Mike Judd, 250 Squadron, RAF in the Western Desert, May 1942 The Kittyhawk was the P-40D version of the US Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, used by the British and Commonwealth air forces during WWII campaigns, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa. The aircraft was produced as a fighter plane between 1939 and 1944 by the Curtiss-Wright Corporation. The Oxford Kittyhawk Mk I is decorated in desert camouflage and represents the aircraft flown by Sqn Ldr Mike Judd, a WWII fighter ace with five victories to his name by the end of the conflict, earning him the DFC, DSO and AFC. He served notably with 238 Sqn. in the Middle East in 1941, flying Hurricanes before taking command of 250 Squadron in April 1942, flying the P-40 Kittyhawk. In May 1942, Mike Judd led an attack on a large formation of Luftwaffe transport aircraft heading for Libya from Crete. He was also escorting a Bristol Beaufighter squadron and between them, they intercepted twelve Junkers 52 troop carriers. He successfully shot down two and his squadron pilots pursued the remainder, with the result that only two Junkers escaped. Our model commemorates this particular episode. Decorated in the grey/green camouflage, distinctive silver and black markings and with duck egg blue underside, the highly detailed aircraft shows Hahn s tally of kills on the tail, as well as his black and red cockerel emblem on the side. Hans Assi Hahn was born in April 1914 at Gotha in Thüringen and joined the Luftwaffe in Following various promotions and action in both the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain, Hahn s tally of kills had risen to 20 by September 1940 and he was awarded the Ritterkreuz for his achievements. A month later, he was promoted to the rank of Hauptmann and appointed Gruppenkommandeur of III./JG 2. In August 1941, he was awarded the Eichenlaub for having achieved 41 victories. During his service on the Western Front, he shot down 66 Allied aircraft before being transferred to the Eastern Front towards the end of Hahn had recorded 108 victories by February 1943 when he was shot down by a Russian aircraft and made a prisoner of war. He was released in 1950 and after a successful post-war business career, he retired to the south of France in Hans Hahn died in 1982 in Munich. Tooling! Me BF109F AC026 1: Tooling! FW Ta152 AC028 1: FW Ta 152 The FW Ta 152 was a German high-altitude, fighter-interceptor, derived from the Focke Wulf FW 190. The prefix Ta rather than Fw was a tribute to the head of the design team, Frank Tank. The Ta 152 was not introduced until January 1945 and although a bit late in the day, the aircraft made a great contribution to the German air defences, even though less than 50 were made before the end of the conflict. Oberfeldwebel Josef Keil of Jagdgeschwaderstab JG-301 flew both FW 190s and the Ta 152. He became one of the great Luftwaffe Aces, achieving 16 airborne victories before the end of his career, five of these flying the Ta 152. It was in this aircraft Green 3, that he clocked yet more victories against the Allies over Alteno, Germany in April His last kills were also in April 1945, this time downing Russian Y-9 planes over Berlin. 10 Ford 400E Van National Transport Festival of Wales 2012 Enthusiasts who flock to the annual National Transport Festival of Wales, known in its younger days as the Swansea Transport Festival, will not want to miss this year s exclusive show model, which Oxford produce as a souvenir of an event which is growing in stature year by year. For the 2012 event, the 1:43 scale model of the Ford 400E utility van, sports a two-tone green colour scheme with contrasting dropped shadow lettering on the sides and across the rear non-opening doors.
