1 WJVintage February 2018 Newsletter Welcome to the February newsletter. It feels to me like we have had a long winter and yet as I write the forecast is predicting another cold blast over the coming week. Thank goodness spring is just around the corner the sooner the better I say!! I must apologise that this newsletter is a slightly truncated affair and also rather late appearing. After a good start, I was held up by one or two unexpected family commitments, plus a frustrating malfunction of my garage doors which eventually required me to knock down an adjoining wall to gain access. Anyway, the net result of all this was I completely ran out of time and with Feb being a short month I have decided to go with what I have. Normal service will hopefully be resumed next month. Thanks to everyone that bought something from my sale last month. It was very successful as a stock reduction exercise. I sold out of one or two items and made significant holes in most of the others. Hopefully that will keep the accountant happy for a while! There are quite a lot of events coming up on the calendar so do please look at the See Us At Shows section towards the end of the newsletter, where I have updated the list of all the events I will be attending over the next few weeks. I hope you will be able to get along to one or two of these and I look forward to meeting some of you at them. 1

2 Out and About HRCA Cotswold Group Running Night Rye Hill Golf Club near Banbury, Mon 5 th Feb, 2018 Long awaited and much anticipated, it was exciting to finally have the opportunity to meet at the new home of the Cotswold group, Rye Hill Golf Club. I have to say it did not disappoint with levels of comfort and space that were excellent and perfectly suited to our needs as a railway group. I m also pleased to say that there was a bumper turnout with no fewer than 52 members signed in to enjoy the rather plush surroundings and two excellent layouts, in 0 and 00 gauge. There were also a decent number of traders offering a wide variety of tempting goodies from vintage to modern, again in both 0 and 00 gauge. The theme for the evening was Anything goes and this was I think wholly appropriate for the new venue to get things kicked off. There was certainly a wide variety on display and running. Here are some highlights in photos. 2

3 The atmosphere was friendly and warm throughout, the ladies found their own little corner too and the bar was also popular with those not driving. Although we have lost the home made element from the catering, I have to say the food was excellent and there was enough for most to go back for seconds. I think the Cotswolds group will be very happy at Rye Hill. 3

4 Customer Corner Mick Martin s superb outdoor layout was completely refurbished (rebuilt?) last year and featured in the April 2017 edition of this newsletter. However, as we all know, a layout is never completely finished. Accessories add a huge amount of interest and realism and Mick has just sent me a photo of the latest addition to his already beautifully accessorised station. Just along from the main platforms he has now added a very nice level crossing, complete with signal box and a variety of diecast vehicles waiting patiently for the train to pass. It looks great Mick can t wait to see what you add next! 4

Rerun of Flat Wagons from ETS With so much of the WJVintage product range coming from ETS of Prague, it is perhaps no surprise that we are also authorised distributors of the ETS range in the UK. As such I am pleased to advise that a new production runs of ETS flat wagons is now available. These have been quite popular in the past and the new run is also available with loads if required (whilst stocks last). I have not yet confirmed my order for these as I would prefer to gauge popularity first and then order accordingly. So if you are interested please get in touch and I will place an order for delivery in the next few weeks. DB (Deutsche BundesBahn) Road-Rail Bus ETS #200 For the collector who has everything and/or for those who like something a little more quirky, how about this ETS version of a German Federal Railways (DB) Road-Rail Bus? Two prototypes were ordered in 1951 and after testing during 1952, 3 more vehicles were ordered. The buses were diesel powered and could travel at up to 80kph (50mph) on the road and up to 120kph (66mph) on rails. They could carry 43 passengers. In 1953 a full production order for 50 further vehicles was placed but only 15 of these ever saw service on rails, the rest being used for road use only. 6

7 The ETS version uses an existing tinplate bus body (by Kovap) coupled to 2 x custom made bogies. They can be supplied as 2- or 3-rail (with button pick-ups for 3-rail) but they are not switchable. They are suitable for 10 to 14 volts DC operation Price for both versions (2-rail or 3-rail) is plus P&P I have 1 x 3-rail version is stock but will gladly order more if required just let me know. GWR 0-4-2T 4866 in GWR Green with Shirtbutton Logo WJV plus P&P These arrived last month as reported, and I now have just 1 loco left with the GWR shirtbutton livery. Price for all versions will be plus P&P. Bogie Bolster Wagons A brand-new Bogie Bolster Wagon will be arriving in the spring of Thank you for all the pre-orders you have already placed. It is very useful to get an indication of the likely most popular liveries so that production numbers can be adjusted accordingly. Evoking fond memories of the Hornby Dublo version of the past, this superb wagon is newly tooled in tinplate for the modern ready to run traditional (coarse scale) market. Wagons shown are pre-production prototypes and will be subject to amendments and improvements before full production 9

10 The wagon will feature wooden bolsters, with metal stakes that can be fitted either through the bolsters or into sockets along the side of the wagon according to the load. Modifications actioned to date are as follows: 1) Wagon frame will be 20mm longer than prototype 2) Disk or spoked wheels will be used as appropriate 3) GWR Grey will be darker The plan is to produce versions for GWR, SR, LMS, LNER, BR and a short run of War Department (WD)wagons. Both plate frame and diamond frame bogies will be offered as appropriate. Here are some photos from the internet to give an idea of the other schemes to come. Each livery will be highly limited so these could become highly sought after. All livery lettering will be high quality tampo-printing onto tinplate bodies All models will feature insulated wheels, for 2 or 3 rail use. Standard drop link style couplings fitted. Suitable for 24 inch radius curves. Overall length of the bogie bolster wagon, buffer to buffer will be a little over 28cm (11 inches).
