2 Beaver Buggy Rules F The buggy must be constructed from the official Scouts Canada Beaver Buggy kit. F Beaver Buggies are built to have fun. There are no winners or losers in Beaver Buggy racing. Beavers (with the help of their parents) are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild; buggies can be made into cars, planes, trucks, bikes, or anything that a Beaver can imagine. F Track design limits the overall width to a maximum dimension of 7 cm (2-3/4 inch) so as not to interfere with the Buggy in the next lane. F The weight of the buggy must not exceed 142g (5 oz). All cars will be weighed on race day and material may be removed on cars that are overweight at the Official s discretion. F Only dry graphite is allowed for lubricating the wheels. No oils or spray lubricant are allowed. At the Show and venue, graphite can only be applied before the race and only at the Tech table. Tips F Check the axles for the proper fit in the wheels. Some axles are larger and fit better in different wheels. F Remove burrs on the axle to make the wheels run smoother. Fine sand paper or rubbing compound works well. F Remove flashing or bumps from the wheels with fine sand paper. F Install the axles reasonably straight. Some kits don t have the axle grooves cut square to the side of the body. If the wheels are not straight, the buggy will pull to the side and rub on the track guides. F Add weight up to the allowable limit. A beaver buggy weighs grams out of the box, and may not reach the end of the track. It is recommended that 10 pennies (about 24g) be added to the buggy. Weight added to the bottom of the buggy must be recessed as to not touch the track. Round-Robin F Beavers select the starting track (Green, Blue, or Purple) for Round #1 however the Marshall will adjust the lines to have the same number of racers at each track. F 1st place finish for each round will be given 1 point, and race next on the Green track. 2nd place finish will get 2 points and will race next on the Blue track. 3rd place finish will get 3 points and race next on the Purple track. F Repeat until all rounds are complete. The Beaver with the lowest number of total points had the fastest buggy. -off F There is no race-off. Beavers race for fun and everyone receives a loot bag.

3 Kub Kar Rules F The car must be constructed from the official Scouts Canada Kub Kar kit with one exception; the body can be replaced if needed to build a wider car up to the limit specified below. Pre-moulded pine cars will be removed from the Show. F Axles and wheels must be the original parts supplied with the kit. No substitute wheels or axles are allowed. Wheels must not be altered in any way that will change their dimensions except to polish and remove flashing or burrs. F The overall width of the car must not exceed 7cm (2-3/4 in.). The total length of the car must not exceed 17.8 cm (7 in.). The wheelbase of the car must not be modified. F The weight of the car must not exceed 142g (5 oz.). All cars will be weighed on an official scale on race day. Cars may be built up with extra weight, as cutting and shaping will make them substantially underweight. Material will be removed on cars that are overweight. F All cars must have been made during the current year, not entered in previous years. F Only dry graphite is allowed for lubricating the wheels. No oils or spray lubricant are allowed. At the Show and venue, graphite can only be applied before the race and only at the Tech table. Tips F Make your Kub Kar as close to the maximum weight as possible by gluing weights on the outside or by drilling holes or carving out the bottom and adding weight. Weight can be added at the Tech Table, so it is better to be a little under than over. F If you add weight to the underside of your car be sure that the car does not rub on the centre rail, as this will slow it down. F Install your axles reasonably straight. Some of the kits don t have the axle grooves cut square to the side of the body. If the wheels are not straight, the car will pull to the side and rub on the track guides. Axles can also be lightly polished with fine sand paper or rubbing compound to make the wheel run smoother and remove any burrs on the nail. 4 Troop Demolition Van Rules Principles Let s have fun! F Integrity & good sportsmanship underpins everything! F Innovations providing unfair advantage not allowed. F Where unclear, Troop Scouters make final decisions. Demolition Derby Objectives F Vans judged for design/creativity prior to demolition. F Inflict as much damage as possible to opponents van. F Points awarded on extent of damage & derailment. Construction F Vans are built solely from the modified beaver buggy base and balsa wood supplied in the kit (1/4x1/4x36" bar, 1/8x1/8x36" bar and 3/32x4x36" sheet). F Only fasteners allowed are White glue, carpenter s glue, or Krazy Glue (cyanoacrylate). Glue cannot reinforce the surface. F Additional metal added must be designed to inflict damage rather than protect the vehicle. F Wheels/axles can be modified only to remove burrs. F The vehicle, including metal, must not exceed 400g. F The vehicle must be made during the current year. F Length: 15.0 cm (6¼ ) F Height: at least 7.5 cm (3 ) from top of buggy base F Width: at least 7.5 cm (3 ) (i.e. wider than buggy) F The vehicle must be rectangular in shape F The front surface cannot be recessed in the van. =< 2 During the Derby F Parts cannot be reattached to van. F Repairs only allowed enabling vehicle s mobility. Weaponry Vehicles must be safe to handle! F Fixed metal parts cannot extend more than 5cm (2 ) beyond front wooden surface of the van. Metal parts can be affixed only to the balsa wood and not directly to the buggy base. F Weapons may be built on roof and side but must not extend more than 2 in starting position. Derby Scoring F Damage points: 0 (no damage) to 5 (obliterate). F Ejection points: 2 (opponent s van must be thrown clear of the track as a result of a collision). F No points can be awarded unless the vehicle enters or passes through the crash zone. F Demolition standings are determined by points; most points is 1st place. In case of tie, highest number of rounds survived is 1st place. If still tied, the least damaged van will be 1st. Show Categories F Best Detail and Finish - Most unique or interesting finish, paint, covering, or detail. Vehicle concept is not considered.

F Vans must have a hollow interior. Interior bracing and/or weapons are allowed. Additional wood/metal allowed. Additional wood/metal may be offensive and/or defensive. F Glues, welding, dowels, and screw fasteners allowed. Glue cannot be used reinforce the surface. F Wheels/axles can be modified only to remove burrs. F The vehicle, including metal, must not exceed 1000g. F Length: 15.0 cm (6¼ ) F Height: at least 7.5 cm (3 ) from top of buggy base F Width: at least 7.5 cm (3 ) (i.e. wider than buggy) F The vehicle must be rectangular in shape F The front surface cannot be recessed in the van. <3 =< 2 During the Derby F Parts cannot be reattached to van.
