This negative air pressure prevents air contaminates from escaping the enclosure, and prevents coolant mist from exiting enclosure as you open the doors of your machine. During the machining process, air is removed from the machine enclosure and filtered to remove coolant mist, smoke and contaminates. As machine tool doors are opened, clean air is drawn into the machine enclosure and this helps protect operators from problems associated with coolant mist exposure and inhalation. 1st stage Metal Baffle Filters separates larger coolant droplets from the the air as it passes through. As mist laden air is filtered, droplets form on the filter surface and freely drips off back to the machine through the 8" x 12" opening. 2nd Stage Metal Mesh Filter separate any smaller coolant mist particles that may have passed through the 1st stage filters. 3nd Stage Filter use Activated Carbon to remove Gaseous Pollutants. The Activated Carbon absorbs vapors from the air, and are designed to "kill" any odors that are created from the machining process. Carbon content of filter is 45 grams per square foot. 4th Stage Filter provides for high efficiency filtration of the air, filtering particles as small as.3 micron particle size. Air is filtered to ASHRAE 52.2 Test Standard Merv 14. Bolt on HEPA After Filter assembly is optional and could be added at any time. Hepa Filter is recommended in applications where smoke is created in the machining process, in straight oil applications, or in operations where coolant is atomized into submicron particles. Hepa filter will remove 99.97% of all particles larger than 0.3 micron in size. Mistaway, Page 3

4 Installation Instructions Direct Top Mounting The Mistaway Collector is supplied with hardware for "Direct Top Mounting". If direct mounting is not applicable, please see "Additional Mounting Options" on page 6, and "Additional Intake Options" on page 7. A 12" max 8" max DETAIL A 1) Determine best location for the Mistaway unit. Take into account easy accessibility to the front of the Mistaway unit and access to the filters. The Mistaway unit does not need to be too close to the machining area to be effective. The Mistaway works by creating a negative pressure in the enclosure. This negative pressure allows fresh air to constantly enter the enclosure through openings in the enclosure. As the machine doors are opened fresh air enters the enclosure and therefore keeps coolant mist away from the operator and from traveling outside the machine enclosure. 2) Set the Mistaway unit on the machine (with filters removed). Scribe or draw to mark the 8" x 12" opening and (8) holes from bottom of Mistaway unit to machine enclosure. An alternate method is to use the supplied Gasket as a template to mark the hole and cutout locations. 3) Saw the 8" x 12" opening and drill (8) 5/16" dia holes on the machine enclosure on location of the layout marks (as per Detail A). Note: If the 8" x 12" hole is a problem, the minimum hole size to be cut in the enclosure can be as small as 8" round. Mistaway, Page 4

5 4) Place the Mistaway unit on top of machine (with filters removed) to access screw holes. Use supplied Gasket between the Mist Away and the machine enclosure. If all (8) screws cannot be used, or the surface of the machine enclosure is not sufficiently flat for the gasket to seal, silicone sealant could be applied to seal off coolant from leaking from this location. 5) Insert (8) 1/4-20 screws with washers through the (8) holes on base of unit (supplied). 6) From inside machine enclosure, install (8) 1/4-20 nuts and washers (supplied). Tighten screws just enough to partially compress the gasket, do not overtighted screws. 7) Unit will power on when current is applied to the 120V plug. Mist Collector should plug unit into a 120V properly grounded outlet. Mist Collector could be run continually on, or could be controlled by the Mist Manager control option, cycling it on/off as needed. Warning! Improper Grounding can result in the risk of Electric Shock! Check with a qualified electrician if in doubt that the outlet is properly grounded. Never remove or cutoff grounding prong from the plug. 6 ADDITIONAL MOUNTING OPTIONS 1) Mistaway could be mounted to back or side of machine, to a wall, or hung from the ceiling. Hang from the ceiling using: Ceiling Mount Kit #700-CMK Run support cables at an angle so mist collector does not sway. Fasten cables to adequately sized structural members. Shown with optional 8" Adapter Plate (700-ADP) installed to bottom of Mistaway Unit. 2) Mistaway could be mounted on optional floor or machine stand: Machine Stand (700-MS) Shown with Optional Inlet Plenum Mistaway Floor Stand (700-FS) Mistaway, Page 6

7 INTAKE OPTIONS Mist Intake Drain Hose Inlet Plenum installed to bottom of Mistaway unit. Inlet plenum has two sizes: *6" dia intake (700-6Plenum) *8" dia intake (700-8Plenum) Mist Intake 8" Adapter Plate (#700-ADP) Installed to bottom of Mistaway unit. NOTE: Plenum could be custom ordered with additional intakes installed on any side(s) of plenum. "Dust Away" Inlet Plenum (700-DA) Inlet plenum for wet grinding applications, 8" dia intake. 8 Operating Instructions To open door Lift up on flange of door and swing down to access filters. 1) Unit will power on when current is applied to the 120V plug. SEE WARNINGS PG 14. 2) Filter Status Gauge: This gauge reads the filter restriction of the main filters (and Hepa filter, if installed). During Normal operation the Gauge reads in the "New" Range. When the Gage reads "Dirty", the air flow is decreased to 1/2 of its rated capacity. At this point the filters should be changed or cleaned as necessary. NOTE: Filter Status Gauge reads filter restriction accurately at full fan speed only (if using variable speed control). 3) Routine maintenance on the Mistaway Collector should be performed at intervals of 6 months to one year depending on application and use, or if status gauge indicates maintenance is necessary. The only maintenance required is inspection, and cleaning or replacing of the filters as needed. 4) The filters (from bottom up) are: First filter group, #700-01, (2) pcs: 16" x 20" x 1" metal baffle filters and they can be rinsed with water or applicable cleaner. Baffle filters are installed with drain holes facing down. Second filter, #700-02: 16" x 20" x 2" metal mesh mist filter and can be rinsed with water or applicable cleaner. Mist Filter is also installed with drain holes facing down. Third filter, #700-03: 16" x 20" x 1" polyester media filter and should be replaced as needed. Forth filter, #700-04: 16" x 20" x 2" carbon/polyester media filter and should be replaced as needed. Washing carbon filter will not recover its odor removal capabilities. Fifth filter (Final Filter), #700-05: 16" x 20" x 4" Merv 14 media filter and should be replaced as needed. Mistaway, Page 8

9 Troubleshooting 1) Gauge reads in Red Area: Main Filters (or HEPA filter if installed) are dirty or clogged. -If HEPA filter is installed - With fan running, open door of Mistaway and check reading: If gauge is still in red, HEPA filter should be replaced. If gauge returns to normal, main filters are clogged (either replace or clean filter). 2) Gauge shows no or low reading: Fan may not be running. -Check power input to 120V plug, if power is present replace fan. Main Filter may have a hole or is damaged. -Check filter condition and replace as needed. 3) Mist or smoke is coming out top of Mistaway. Intake is restricted and mist collector cannot drain. -Intake must be a minimum of 8" diameter or Speed Control or Plenum should be used. Smoke or atomized mist (below 1 micron) is being produced in the machining process. -HEPA filter should be used. Mistaway, Page 9

11 MIST MANAGER OPTION FULLY AUTOMATIC MIST COLLECTOR CONTROL UNIT FOR MANUAL AND CNC MACHINE TOOLS Patent Pending The Mist Manager Control provides for totally automatic mist collector operation, increases mist collector effectiveness, and reduces filter maintenance The Mist Manager could be activated by either coolant pressure or machine tool door operation. COOLANT PRESSURE SWITCH OPTION: The Mist Manager control could be ordered with a coolant pressure switch (switch senses machine tool coolant pressure). As coolant pressure switch senses coolant pressure the control unit will turn on the mist collector at variable speed. As coolant shuts off the control unit switches mist collector to high fan speed for a time interval of 5 minutes (can be set from 1-10 minutes). DOOR SWITCH OPTION: The Mist Manager control could be ordered with a door switch (relay switch is actuated by machine tool door). Door switch to be mounted so the switch is actuated when door is closed. When door is closed the control unit will turn on the mist collector at variable speed. When door is opened the control unit switches mist collector to high fan speed for a time interval of 5 minutes (can be set from 1-10 minutes). 12 HEPA Filter Option Installation on Mistaway Mist Collector HEPA Filter is recommended in applications where smoke is created in the machining process, in straight oil applications, or in operations where coolant is atomized into submicron particles. Hepa filter will remove 99.97% of all particles larger than 0.3 micron in size. Instructions to Mount HEPA Filter on Mistaway Unit: 1) Remove 5/16" Screw from center of Top Cap of Mist Collector. 2) Remove Top Cap, Round Spacer Plate, Perforated Metal Ring, and Plastic Spacer Bushing. 3) Install HEPA filter as per Diagram, using Threaded Rod/Locknut Assy, Wing Nut, and Top Cap. Note: Locknuts can be adjusted for filter height. 5/16-18 Wing Nut Existing Top Cap NOTE: If Hepa Filter Kit is installed on Mistaway collectors mfg prior to 2013, check/apply sealant around fan 5/16" Threaded Rod/ Locknut Assembly Mistaway Page 12

14 WARNINGS! 1) WHEN UNATTENDED MACHINING OF COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS INCLUDING MAGNESIUM AND TITANIUM OR WHEN UNATTENDED MACHINING USING STRAIGHT OIL COOLANTS, THE MIST COLLECTOR SHOULD NOT BE USED UNLESS A FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM IS INSTALLED THAT WILL PUT OUT FIRE AND TURN OFF MIST COLLECTOR AUTOMATICALLY. 2) ALWAYS HAVE OPERATORS TRAINED IN THE USE OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS. IF MACHINING OF COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS OR STRAIGHT OIL COOLANTS ARE USED, THERE MAY BE A RISK OF FIRE. ALWAYS HAVE A PROPERLY RATED FIRE EXTINGUISHER NEARBY. 3) MISTAWAY IS NOT TO BE USED TO FILTER ANY HIGHLY FLAMMABLE OR COMBUSTIBLE MISTS OR VAPORS. 4) MISTAWAY IS TO BE PLUGGED INTO A 120V GROUNDED OUTLET. NEVER CUT THE GROUNDING PLUG FROM THE CORD. 5) ALWAYS DISCONNECT POWER WHEN SERVICING. SERVICE TO BE PERFORMED BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL ONLY. 6) EDGES OF METAL FILTERS AND SHEET METAL EDGES OF MIST COLLECTOR MAY BE SHARP, CAUTION SHOULD BE USED AND GLOVES WORN TO PREVENT INJURIES. LIMITED WARRANTY The manufacturer of the Mistaway warrants the original purchaser, that the product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of (3) years. This warranty includes fan, gauges, electrical and mechanical components. Excluded are consumable filters, and normal wear and tear on finished surfaces. Any part that is determined to be defective by Industrial Tool is to be returned shipping prepaid, and will be repaired or replaced at Industrial Tool option and shipped back to the customer.
