System Specification The Body Computer Module (BCM) manages the main functions of the car electrical system, performing gateway operations between low and high CAN networks (respectively, BH-CAN and C-CAN) and between CAN and LIN network. This document is valid for every future application of the platform. 2.1 Compositions and Functions The immobilizer system in this platform implements a strategy to start the engine via the engine control unit (NCM) only after receiving a secret code stored in the same prior to release to start the vehicle. The immobilizer system consists of three essential elements: Two to eight electronic key that contains a transponder with a secret code; The antenna that reads the code in the transponder keys; The Engine control unit (NCM) The immobilizer control allows the engine management through an encrypted communication between the platform and NCM before starting the engine. Once the key is turned on, the NCM sends a request code to the platform, which responds only after acknowledging (via antenna) the code of the electronic key inserted into the ignition switch. If the secret code contained in the response is valid, the NCM continues with the usual activities of motor control, allowing the engine start. The immobilizer feature is guaranteed in case of failure of other functions of platform.

6 6/ Immobilizer Functions in platform The immobilizer system is used as safety lock: it allows motor engine on only after that the engine control module (ECM) receives valid key authentication successful message. The immobilizer system is constituted by the following parts: A transponder, located inside the keyfob, with an immobilizer secret code employable by up to 8 keys; A base station, located inside the BCM, that reads transponder data by means of magnetic coupling between a loop antenna mounted around the ignition lock and the transponder; the working frequency is 125kHz; the BCM and the ECM communicate together through C-CAN network. The immobilizer system uses an encrypted communication with the transponder according to the AES128 standard.

8 8/11 3. Functional Simulation Conditions 3.1 List of Equipment The functional operation of IMMO VW is provided using the following list of equipment: Vehicle battery 12V; Test harness; Key with transponder; Ignition switch with immobilizer antenna coil. 3.2 General Simulation Setup

The material contains also the complete harness that allow to assembly the following connections (see also the photo): The power supply 13,5V to the connectors AA; The ground to the connector PG; The connector PH contains the immobilizer antenna. For set the BCM in continuous wave in enough switch-on and the IMMO go on until swith-off.
