2 BMTG -Bimetallic Temperature Gauge The temperature is measured with a bimetal system inside the thermometer stem. The bimetal system consists of two metal strips bonded together that have different thermal expansion coefficients. Therefore, one strip will expand faster than the other causing the bimetal strip to curl in proportion to its temperature. The bimetal system is helically wound and heat treated for long term stability. 3 GFTG -Gas Filled Temperature Gauge A gas expansion thermometer is made of a cylindrical bulb filled with inert gas & uses the volume expansion of gases at temperature changes. Gas pressure changes inside the bulb due to temperature changes, are sensed by a special helical bourdon tube, which connected to an amplifying device will give the pointer, movement proportional to the temperature. The physical properties used will enable linear readings on the dial from the origin to full scale. When the reading is remote from the sensing point, a capillary is then used for transmission between the bulb and the thermometer head. Capillary armoring is common practice in industrial environments. 6 PGB -Commercial/Utility Pressure Gauge Bourdon tube measuring element is made of a thin-walled c-shape tube or spirally wound helical or coiled tube. When pressure is applied to the measuring system through the pressure port (socket), the pressure causes the bourdon tube to straighten itself, thus causing the tip to move. The motion of the tip is transmitted via the link to the movement which converts the linear motion of the bourdon tube to a rotational motion that in turn causes the pointer to indicate the measured pressure. 16 PGDP3 - Magnetic Pistion Differential Pressure Gauge High and low pressures are separated by a sensor assembly consisting of a magnet, piston,teflon seal and a range spring.the difference in pressure causes the sensor assembly to move in proportion to the change against a range spring. A rotary magnet, located in a separate body cavity and isolated from the acting pressures, is rotated by magnetic coupling as per the linear movement of the sensor assembly. 20 THERMOWELLS Thermowells provide protection for temperature probes against unfavorable operating conditions such as corrosive media, physical impact (e.g. Clinker in furnaces) and high pressure gas or liquid. Their use also permits quick and easy probe interchanging without the need to open-up the process.it is closed-end reentrant tube designed for insertion of a temperature-sensing element, and provided with means for a pressure-tight attachment to a vessel. Thermowells are typically constructed of solid drilled-out bar stock and are designed to protect a temperature sensor from flow, high pressure and harsh environments. Thermowells encase and protect temperature gauge from the harmful effects of the processes into which they are immersed without substantially insulating the temperature sensor from the temperature of the process. The most common types of thermowells are :- () threaded thermowell () flanged welded thermowell Thermowells are classified according to their connection to a process. Flange can be weld according to requirement. Bar-stock thermowell is also known as solid drilled thermowell. Single piece thermowells are manufactured from a complete element or bar stock. One-piece thermowells are suited to the highest process loads, depending on their design.
