2 PREINSTALLATION NOTES 1. Longevity of an electric locking system will depend on the design and adherence to wiring instructions. Correct use of these products is critical. Red bodied actuators are a patented TM product using a unique spring detent feature. Their design is specific for P.O.P. Locks products that use the lazy action principals such as what is used on compartment style doors. Their use for any other type of doors, such as personnel doors, is not recommended and will void any warranties. 2. AUTOMATED TRIGGERS: PLRB-RC Keyless Entry, Alarm Keyless Entry and Proximity Keyless Entry Systems have a pre-programmed duration of output used to lock and unlock. It is approximately 5/10th of one second. This triggering duration will prevent over trigger and system failure as well as greatly increase an actuators life. The Relay Controller use is a part of the overall warranty (see warranty for details). Any other triggering system not using a PLRB Relay Controller could be a warranty violation. This includes rocker switches and/or other hidden types of switches such as push button switches should be mounted where objects or people will not accidently depress them. This can cause what is known as an over trigger, causing possible damage to actuators if the system is fused incorrectly. 3. Hidden switches, such as a push button, configured to lock or unlock doors should be mounted in places where road grime or grit will not interfere with their works, causing failure and possible over trigger. 4. Rocker switches, by design, are for INTERIOR USE ONLY and their location should be well thought out to prevent accidental engagement causing a possible over trigger and damage to power locking system. 5. No more than three (3) additional actuators, personnel/compartment, can be added to a factory power locking system. 6. Please refer to attached wiring instructions to add additional triggers such as rocker switches or external triggers to factory power locking.
3 1. We strongly advise a thorough reading of the P.O.P. Locks Wiring Schematics prior to beginning installation. Failure to comply with the wiring specifications is a violation of warranty. 2. Line Loss Calculations: Line loss is the formula to calculate the amount of relay circuits (PLRB) necessary to efficiently run a quality power locking system. Running too many actuators from an under designed system shortens the actuator life. Over fusing will result in possible shortness of life of actuator. Damage caused by over trigger voids any warranties. Correct fusing can prevent damage to actuators. 2a. Part # PLRB Relay Control Module: Eliminate the possibility of over trigger. See: PLRB Relay Control Module Data Sheet. Part # MEASURE THE TOTAL LENGTH OF THE TRUNK WIRE ( This calculation is based on the trunk wire size of 14ga. wire. 12 ga. changes the Line Loss Factor to.17 ). Example: Length of Trunk Wire feet The Line Loss Factor X.25 Total Amperage Loss (from trunk wire) 6.25 Multiply the Gross No. of Actuators 5 The Amperage Loss per Actuator X 4.50 Total Amperage Needed Add Amperage Loss (from trunk wire) Total Calculations per Amperage As long as this calculation does not exceed the relay rate of 30 amps, this circuit is acceptable. It is recommended that the use of an ATC style fuse be used. Up sizing wire reduces Line Loss Factor to ½ or.125 amps. Correct fusing in the event of an over trigger can save actuators and insure warranty. Fusing requirements using the final calculation of total amps drawn should be done on a per circuit basis and fused appropriately. Never exceed that number by more than 2 fused amps. Example: calculated amps fused to maximum 30 amps is acceptable. Failure to correctly fuse could result in damage to actuator and a total system failure. Trunk wire should be a minimum of 14 gauge. Branch wires can be 18 gauge. Minimize number of splices to maximize useable amperage. 3. Before you begin installation determine what lock/unlock triggering device will be used. 1. Single Rocker Switch 5. Remote without Alarm 2. Existing Factory Cab Power Door Locks 3. Aftermarket Cab Power Door Locks 6. Combination of the above 4. Alarm Remote 4. Pre-wire Drilling: Use a step drill bit if possible to drill two holes being careful not to dent the outer door skin. Locate the first hole adjacent to the actuator on the input side within the cover. Second hole should be drilled next to the base of the limit device. It will be necessary to notch the cover if surface mounted wire is desired.
4 Control Module enclosures are water resistant only and are recommended to be installed in a dry area or in an enclosure. Before drilling and pulling wires, plan the placement of the Control Module. Be sure there is no conflict with the fuel lines, brake lines or gas tanks that can be damaged during drilling. Its proximity to power and doors to be locked can reduce the length of wire needed, and increase its performance. Leave excess wire at the end of all wire runs for make up. Typically, install the trunk wire inside the body directly above the doors with body to harness wire ties. The standard trunk wire has two wires of 14 ga. Start the branch and trunk connections at the rear of the body, grommeting and strapping as you go towards the cab boxes directly above the doors with adhesive wire ties. The 18 ga. branch wires connect the actuator. Pre-measure and cut the branch wires for each actuator, leaving extra at both ends. The wire must be long enough to string along the limit device into the body (strapping and sleeving at the limit device will help protect the wires). Use a 1/16" rigid wire to pull the branch wire, hole to hole, through the hollow door cavity (if applicable). Grommet holes to prevent accidental grounding. At each actuator input and trunk wire connection use appropriate connectors for these wires. If Applicable Drill an appropriate grommetable hole in the boxes for the trunk wires to exit. Position the hole out of the way, low on the back wall of the compartments box immediately behind the cab. Bring the two trunk wires together. Conceal and protect them by securing them to the vehicle frame and run them into the cab. Another hole is needed for the trunk wires to enter the cab. This can be drilled under the cab, through the cab fire wall or at the threshold of the vehicle. Relays should be installed in a dry environment as they are not waterproof. Refer to relay wiring instructions and/or other trigger installation instructions to complete the wiring. 5. Please refer to the P.O.P. Locks individual diagram for installation of the individual power locking units. 6. Key Accessibility: Prior to closing any door, be sure you have lubricated necessary moving parts before adjustments are made. With key inserted, rotate lock, making sure the unlock feature works correctly. Key accessibility is very important should you ever experience a power failure or need to access your box with a key. 7. Testing: Using the basic lock/unlock rocker switch, open and close the P.O.P. Locks prior to bringing any other trigger device to the system. All locks should open and close in unison. If one does not, reverse the wire connections at that actuator input and retest. 8. Cover Installation (If applicable): Remove the nut from the stud. Place the P.O.P. Lock cover over the mounted actuator making sure the cover conceals, but does not crush, the wiring. The cover should lie flush against the door. The stud passes through the top hole on the cover. With the cover in place, firmly tighten the nut to secure the cover. If door shell thickness allows, drive #8 X ½ tek into the four mounting holes on the cover. (It may be necessary to notch cover to clear door latch works or protruding linkages).

7 Adhesive base PL801 and other bases require that their surfaces be cleaned. It is recommended that #00 steal-wool or a scuffing pad be used, followed by a solvent such as Acetone / Lacquer Thinner. Carefully select the final placement. Once installed its removal will damage the base & adhesive making them unreusable. Attach Actuator To PL801 Base Remove Adhesive Covering Patent Pending Connect Nylon Rod Connector To Latch Connect Linkage To Actuator. Next Install Actuator. Cover Will Keep Actuator In Place

9 P.O.P. Locks TM PLRB-RC TROUBLE SHOOTING PLRB-RC / POWER ING SYSTEMS Problem Solution 1. Both transmitters fail and vehicle rocker switch continues to work correctly. And both transmitters are 1.a First check the transmitter (Key Fob) battery. 1.b Locate the PLRB-RC Controller and remove clear cover., Remove, the wire harness to the receiver (4 wires: blue, green, red,, failing to recode. black) and unplug the harness connecting to the RC unit. This is removing power. Reconnect in a few seconds. Within 2-5 seconds press button 1 of the first transmitter being coded next press button 1 of other transmitter to be coded. This process is called re-coding. 1.c If both Transmitters are to close to one another this will cancel there transmission. Separate transmitters during normal operation and coding process. 1.d If the vehicle is having its battery charged and the charger is omitting to much dirty current ( AC ) this can and will prevent coding and basic transmitter operation. 2. One transmitter works correctly, the other does not. 3. One compartment of 2 or more fails to lock or unlock. 4. One entire side of the vehicle will not lock or unlock. 5. The vehicles compartments lock and unlock but the switch in the cab will not work. 6. The vehicles power locks fail to work from the rocker switch but the remotes work correctly. 2.a Check the battery of the transmitter not working. 3.b Make sure that all connecting contacts are complete and fully plugged. 3.b Test the wiring by removing the non-working actuator from the wire harness at the actuator. Using a test light probe, connect to both contacts from the wiring harness. The test light should only momentarily light when the locking system is cycled. 4.a Confirm that the LED s light during lock/unlock cycles. 4.b Check the main control module ATC fuses. Replace if necessary. 4.c Verify that the wire harness in the vehicle is not cut or damaged. 5.a Please refer to solutions 4.a, 4.b and 4.c. 6.a Look for loose or damaged wires at the rocker switch or control module. 6.b Test Control Module by simulate a trigger input using a test light. Connect the test light to power. With probe end, touch positive input trigger. This will confirm correct module operation for lock/unlock cycle. 7.a Remote Transmitter (Key Fob) range seems to be getting shorter before working correctly. 7.a Replace battery in transmitter (Key Fob). 8.a Fuses on the control board repeatedly open (blown) when locking system is cycled. 8.a There is a short after the main control module. Examine the wire harness for damage. TSRev2
