4 1 General description 1 General description This document does not describe the individual steps required for testing and programming E-Tachos. It is a supplement to the CTCII Operating Instructions. Always refer to the CTCII Operating Instructions when testing or programming the device and observe the information contained in Chapter1 "For your safety"! Usage Electronic speedometers from the E-Tacho range (stand-alone) can be checked and programmed using a CTCII software add-on. You can use both the stationary and the mobile versions of the CTCII. To check and program an E-Tacho you'll need the CTCII E-Tacho Test set (article no. A2C ). The set includes: CTCII E-Tacho test cable (article no. A2C ), CTCII E-Tacho licence card, these operating instructions. In the CTCII (from Release 2.10) the test program is activated with the CTCII E-Tacho licence card. Your VDO representative activates the program and also provides you with the CTCII E-Tacho Test set. Continental Automotive GmbH 1

The second end of the cable has a mini timer plug (3). This plug is connected to the yellow sensor socket "B". This sensor sends distance pulses to the CTCII for determining the W value. The two cables are connected to the 8-pin CTCII plugs (DIN ). Continental Automotive GmbH 3

7 2 Testing and programming 2.2 Program overview (menu tree) Important When the test cable is connected, the E-Tacho neither receives any sensor signals nor indicates any speed values. Important Depending on the version, the E-Tacho's communication interface can be on plug "B" or plug "D". The test cable's socket "D" must then be connected to the correct E-Tacho plug. The light barrier adapter (5) must be connected to the righthand CTCII socket. The light barrier (used to determine the W value in conjunction with the automatic measured track) can be connected to the adapter socket. 2.2 Program overview (menu tree) Important Menu tree E-Tacho test Only E-Tachos (stand-alone) can be tested and programmed. 8 2 Testing and programming 2.3 Measurement and test procedure 2.3 Measurement and test procedure Characteristic coefficient W measurement, calibration adjustment Important The calibration adjustment procedure for the E-Tacho is carried out in the same way as for analogue or digital tachographs: either on the road with the manual measured track (if permitted in your country and if the function has been activated in the CTCII), the automatic measured track or on the rolling road. See also the CTCII operating instructions. Use the W MEASUREM. function when calibration adjustment of the E-Tacho is done on the rolling road. The W value is adjusted to the E-Tacho constant with the key same calibration procedure as for tachographs. 2.4 Device testing The following device tests can be carried out on the E-Tacho: Testing the odometer: ODOMETER TEST, accuracy of the odometer. The test is performed in the same way as an odometer test on the analogue tachographs 1318 and 1319 with the exception that the function is accessed via the E-TACHO > DEVICE TESTING menu. See also the CTCII operating instructions. Variable speed VARIABLE SPEED, accuracy of the speed indicator. 9 2 Testing and programming 2.5 Programming the E-Tacho The following programming functions are available for the E-Tacho: Program Remark Value / Information K CONSTANT Programming if activated in Setup. If not, it is read only ,000 I/km ODOMETER Can be programmed as often as required in the range of km. Programming is no longer possible above an odometer reading of 100 km. 7-digit number DISPLAY KM/ MILES TRIP COUNTER CLOCK Toggle between kilometres and miles. Activating the daily trip odometer.
