2 Congratulations! Congratulations! You are bringing the scariest Lionel accessory to your layout, the Lionel Haunted House. This accessory is not for the faint of heart you will experience eerie interior illumination, spooky sounds, a Jack-O-Lantern glowing in the window, a ghost peeking through the roof, and a witch circling above the house. All of these fun effects are sure to make this a favorite accessory. You can place the Lionel Haunted House on any Lionel O or O-27 gauge three-rail layout. This accessory is designed to operate at volts (AC). 3 Set up of your Haunted House Get ready to bring these scary new neighbors to your layout by clearing a location for your Haunted House. Because the Haunted House features a substantial base, there is no need to secure this stable accessory to your layout. After placing the Haunted House on your layout, attach the witch figure with her supporting rod to your accessory by following these steps. Refer to the illustration for additional assistance. 1. Fit the end of the witch s supporting rod onto the shaft located in the hole at the top of the cupola. You may need to rotate the supporting rod until the hexagonal sleeve at the end of the supporting rod lines up with the hexagonal shaft inside the top of the cupola. 2. Once the hexagonal shaft is lined up with the sleeve at the end of the supporting rod, gently push the supporting rod down onto the shaft. Your witch is ready for her scary midnight rides! 3

4 Wiring your Haunted House in a traditional (non-command) environment To operate properly, your Haunted House requires volts (AC). You can supply power to this accessory in two ways: wiring directly to your transformer OR wiring to a Lionel LockOn (available separately) to supply power through the track. To make the proper connections, the ends of the wires must be stripped back 1/4 to 3/8. Use a pair of wire strippers or a sharp knife to strip the wires. CAUTION! Only an adult should perform this task! Always use care when stripping wires. 1. Attach one wire to the U terminal of your transformer OR to one terminal on your Lionel LockOn (available separately). If using the LockOn, attach the NOTE! LockOn to any section of track. Fit the center lip of the LockOn onto the edge of the outside rail and press the LockOn upward so that the spring contact snaps onto the center rail. To attach wires to the LockOn, simply depress the spring clip and insert the bare end of the wire into the exposed opening. Release the clip, and gently tug on the wire to be sure that you have a good connection. 2. Connect this wire to the right TRANSFORMER POST on the side of the accessory. To make this connection, unscrew the nut to expose a hole in the terminal post. Place the bare end of the wire into the post. Tighten the nut back down to secure the wire. Be sure that the exposed wire is in contact with the terminal post. Repeat the process with the remaining wire and the second terminal post. 3. Attach one wire to the A terminal on your transformer OR to the other terminal on your Lionel LockOn. Connect the other end to one of the switches included with this accessory. Loosen the terminal screw on the switch and wrap the exposed end of the wire around the shaft of the screw in the shape of an upside-down U with the wire approaching the screw from the left side. 4. Attach another wire to the opposite end of the switch in the same way. Connect this wire to the left TRANSFORMER POST on the side of the accessory. 5. To wire the sound control switch, attach one wire to the each of the SOUND POSTS on the side of the accessory. Connect each of these wires to the terminals on the switch (included with your accessory). Now, you are ready to bring your Haunted House to back to life! 4

6 Wiring your Haunted House in a Command Environment Your Haunted House can be used in a Command Control environment with the use of an SC-2. To wire your Haunted House with an SC-2, follow these steps. Due to the limitations of the SC-1, NOTE! you will need to use an SC-2 unit to operate this accessory. 1. Connect a wire from the ACC1, on/off position (or next available on/off position) terminal on the SC-2 to one of the thumbscrew posts, located under the TRANSFORMER POSTS label on the Haunted House. 2. Connect another wire from the U terminal of the transformer to the other thumbscrew post, located under the TRANSFORMER POSTS label on the Haunted House. 3. Finally, connect another wire from the A terminal on your transformer to the COMMON post on your SC To wire the sound control switch, attach one wire to each of the SOUND POSTS on the side of the accessory. 7 Operating your Haunted House in the traditional (non-command) environment After you have wired your Haunted House, it is time to terrorize your trains and petrify your passengers! Control this accessory with the switch on the wire between the TRANSFORMER POST on the side of the accessory and the A terminal on your transformer (or the Lionel LockOn). By sliding this switch, you can turn the animation and illumination on or off. Use the switch connected to the SOUND POSTS on the side of your accessory to turn the spooky sounds on or off. 7

8 Operating your Haunted House in the Command environment After you have wired your Haunted House to your SC-2, use your CAB-1 Remote Controller to control this creepy accessory. Press the AUX2 button on your CAB-1 unit to operate the Haunted House. Please refer to your SC-2 Switch and Accessory Guide ( ) for more information. The switch that you installed on NOTE! the circuit between the SOUND POSTS on the side of the accessory will still turn the spooky sounds on and off. Replacing the lamps in your Haunted House For the ultimate in eerie illumination, the Jack-O-Lantern. In the course of normal your Haunted House features five internal lamps. Two red lamps are located in the need replacement. Follow these instructions operation, you may find that these lamps attic, and two green lamps are held by structures on the base. 9 Replacing the lamp in the Jack-O-Lantern The replacement lamp part number for the clear bulb in the Jack-O-Lantern is 6SP , Remove the witch s supporting rod from the Haunted House by carefully pulling the rod off of the cupola. 2. Remove the four screws at the bottom of the base. 3. Carefully lift the Haunted House structure straight up from the base. Wires connect this structure to NOTE! the base, so lift the Haunted House only enough to clear the shaft that operates the witch. 4. After the Haunted House has been removed from its base, locate the Jack-O-Lantern. (Refer to location 4 on the diagram on page 8.) 5. Gently pull the lamp out of the back of the Jack-O-Lantern. 6. Follow the wires from this bulb to their connections. Remove the wire nuts that connect these wires. Simply twist the wire nuts counterclockwise to remove them. 7. Connect your replacement bulb by twisting the ends of the bulb wires to the ends of the wires that you disconnected from the expired bulb. (One bulb wire is connected with one lead wire.) Screw the wire nut back on the wires. 8. Insert the new lamp into the back of the Jack-O-Lantern. 9. Carefully lower the haunted house onto its base. Make sure that the ghost lines up with its slot in the roof and that the witch s shaft will be located in the center of the cupola. Lower the Haunted House over its HINT! base enough to gently hold the ghost in its slot. Peek through the hole at the top of the cupola, and guide the structure down, keeping the shaft centered appropriately. 9

10 Replacing the red lamps in attic The replacement lamp part number for the red bulbs in the attic is 6SP Remove the witch s supporting rod from the Haunted House by carefully pulling the rod off of the cupola. 2. Remove the four screws at the bottom of the base. 3. Carefully lift the Haunted House structure straight up from the base. Please note that wires connect this structure to the base, so lift the Haunted House only enough to clear the shaft that operates the witch. 4. Locate the expired lamp in the attic area. (Refer to location 1 on the diagram on page 8.) 5. Follow the wires from this bulb to their connections. Remove the wire nuts that connect these wires. Simply twist the wire nuts counterclockwise to remove them. 6. Remove the expired lamp by sliding it through the hole in the framing. 7. Slide the wires of the replacement bulb through the hole in the framing and tape the wire to secure it in place. 8. Connect your replacement bulb by twisting the ends of the bulb wires to the ends of the wires that you disconnected from the expired bulb. (One bulb wire is connected with one lead wire.) Screw the wire nut back on the wires. 9. Carefully lower the haunted house onto its base. Make sure that the ghost lines up with its slot in the roof and that the witch s shaft will be located in the center of the cupola. Lower the Haunted House over its HINT! base enough to gently hold the ghost in its slot. Peek through the hole at the top of the cupola, and guide the structure down, keeping the shaft centered appropriately. 10

11 Replacing the green bulbs at the base of the Haunted House The replacement lamp part number for the red bulbs in the attic is 6SP Remove the witch s supporting rod from the Haunted House by carefully pulling the rod off of the cupola. 2. Remove the four screws at the bottom of the base. 3. Carefully lift the Haunted House structure straight up from the base. Please note that wires connect this structure to the base, so lift the Haunted House only enough to clear the shaft that operates the witch. 4. Locate the expired green lamps. They can be found on top of the black housings on the base. The wires travel up tubes at the corners of these two structures. (Refer to locations 2 and 3 on the diagram on page 8.) 5. Follow the wires from this bulb to their connections. Remove the wire nuts that connect these wires. Simply twist the wire nuts counterclockwise to remove them. 6. Remove the expired lamp, and place a new lamp in the same position. You will not be able to remove the NOTE! wires passing through the structure on the base behind the bobbing ghost without removing that structure. Remove the two screws on the top of that structure, and lift this structure from the base to allow clearance for the wires. Slide the wires of the new lamp through the tube, and replace the screws to attach the structure to the base. 8. Connect your replacement bulb by twisting the ends of the bulb wires to the ends of the wires that you disconnected from the expired bulb. (One bulb wire is connected with one lead wire.) Screw the wire nut back on the wires. 9. Carefully lower the haunted house onto its base. Make sure that the ghost lines up with its slot in the roof and the witch s shaft will be located in the center of the cupola. Lower the Haunted House over its HINT! base enough to gently hold the ghost in its slot. Peek through the hole at the top of the cupola, and guide the structure down, keeping the shaft centered appropriately. 11

12 Limited Warranty/Lionel Service This Lionel product, including all mechanical and electrical components, moving parts, motors and structural components, except for light bulbs, is warranted to the original consumer-purchaser, for one year against original defects in materials or workmanship when purchased through an authorized Lionel dealer. This warranty does NOT cover normal wear and tear, light bulbs, defects appearing in the course of commercial use, or damage resulting from abuse or misuse of the product by the purchaser. Transfer of this product by the original consumer-purchaser to another person voids this warranty. Modification of this product voids this warranty. Any warranted product which is defective in original materials or workmanship and is delivered by the original consumer-purchaser to Lionel L.L.C. or an authorized Lionel L.L.C. Service Station, together with proof of original purchase will, at the option of Lionel L.L.C., be repaired or replaced, without charge for parts or labor. In the event the defective product cannot be repaired, and a replacement is not available, a refund of the original purchase price will be granted. Any products on which warranty service is sought must be sent freight or postage prepaid, as transportation and shipping charges are not covered by the warranty. In no event shall Lionel L.L.C. be liable for incidental or consequential damages. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusion may not apply to you. This limited warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights which vary from state to state. Instructions for Obtaining Service If service for this Lionel L.L.C. product is required, bring the item, along with your dated sales receipt and completed warranty information to the nearest Authorized Lionel Service Station. Your nearest Lionel Service Station can be found by calling Lionel, or by accessing our Website at If you prefer to send your product back to Lionel L.L.C. for factory repair, you must first call or FAX , or write to Customer Service, P.O. Box 748, New Baltimore, MI , stating what the item is, when it was purchased and what seems to be the problem. You will be sent a return authorization letter and label to ensure your merchandise will be properly handled upon receipt. Once you have received your return authorization and label, make sure that the item is packed to prevent damage during shipping and handling. We suggest that you use the product s original packaging. This shipment must be prepaid, and we recommend that it be insured. Please make sure you have followed all of the above instructions carefully before returning any merchandise for service.
