(2) 80x80x15mm fans, (1) fan guard, (4) #6 x 7/8 screws 7 Feet ½ OD high quality vinyl tubing Preamble 1 2 oz bottle HydrX specially formulated coolant This kit has been designed to facilitate installation with as little modifications to the case as possible. It is however meant for advanced users, well versed in installing computer components. Specific tools needed to complete the installation: Power drill 1 ¼ (32mm) Bi-Metal hole saw to drill hole for A/C socket 1/8 (3.17mm) Drill bit for A/C socket cover mounting holes General Rules: Always work on a naked case, removing side panels, front bezel, and top panel, with no power supply installed. Never work with electricity connected to the computer while work is in progress. The fill and bleed kit should always be at the highest point of the cooling circuit. Always connect individual components from bottom to top, so that the liquid naturally pushes the air up, and out during the fill and bleed process. 1. Strip the case naked Remove side panels, top panel, front bezel, and power-supply. 2. Install the pump relay switch socket. Since you will be making holes in the case, metal debris could be flying off into your components. So it is preferable to make this your first step, as it will be easier to clean up the case while there are no components installed in it. Please follow instructions in paragraph 6, page 2 for the installation of the A/C socket. 3. Mock-up installation: A mock-up installation will allow you to plan how you will route your tubing, and to precut tube segments to length between the cooling components. From pump to water-block, water-block to radiator, etc Proceed with installing your motherboard, and processor into the case, as well as the VGA card if you purchased the MCW50 VGA cooler. Protect the core of your processor, and VGA card if applicable with masking tape, so that you will not scratch the finely lapped copper surface of the cooling block (s). Once you know how far the different elements of the cooling kit are from each other, you can approximately pre-cut the tubing for each segment: cut an inch or so longer than needed, as you will re-cut precisely later. Now proceed with installing the different cooling components. Copyright Swiftech 2002 Last edited Dec 12, 2002 Subject to revision without notice - 1 -

4. MCK525 Pump and Fill & Bleed tray installation Simply insert the tray as you would a CD Rom drive, preferably in the uppermost 5 ¼ drive bay. If there is not enough clearance with the top of the case, then install the tray in the second highest drive bay. Align the extremity of the fill and bleed tubes so that they will fit right behind the drive bay covers. Use the provided screws to attach the tray to the case. If your case uses drive rails, they will install on this tray the same way they would on a CR Rom drive. 5. MCR80-F Radiator installation The assembly fits into any exhaust opening designed to receive a 80mm case fan. Depending on the case design, the assembly will either fit straight up (inlet and outlet up), or may need to be rotated 90 as shown in the example to the left. Depending on the orientation of the radiator, it is easier to clamp the tubing to the inlet and outlet before fastening the radiator to the case. Follow the separate installation guide provided in the MCR80-F box to fasten the radiator to the case. A/C Socket 6. Pump Relay Switch Installation: Spacing 0.25" N\O _ + Pump s relay switch circuit board 1.25" Hole Find a suitable placement to drill a hole for the pump s A/C socket. Leave sufficient room under or above the hole to install the pump relay switch circuit board. A ¼ minimum clearance will be required between the circuit board and the edge of the hole. Make a 1.25 (32mm) diameter hole in the case, using a 1 ¼ Bi-Metal hole saw. Deburr the edges of the hole with sand paper. Position and center the mounting plate over the hole as a template to mark the locations of the plate s mounting screws. Drill 2 holes of.125 diameter for the mounting screws. Install the mounting plate using the screws provided with your kit. Insert the A/C socket inside the mounting plate. Relay switch connection diagram Proceed with electrical connections as described in the diagram to the right. A/C Socket Relay switch For normal operations, connect: E 1. Black L wire from A/C socket to N\O (normally opened) position on switch 2. Black wire (brown for Europe) from pump to COM position on switch 3. White wire (blue for Europe) to N position on A/C socket 4. Green Wire (yellow for Europe) to Ground on A/C socket 5. 4 pins Molex connector will connect to computer power supply once installed. For fill & bleed operations, TEMPORARILY connect the L wire from the A/C socket to the N\C (normally closed) position on the relay switch. This bypasses the switch, allowing the pump to run as soon as you plug it into an A/C outlet. Do not forget to reconnect to N\O once done, or the pump will shut off when you turn the computer on, instead of running. N WARNING! Always disconnect from A/C power source while working with electrical devices. 3 7. Install the MCW5000 water-block on your CPU, and the MCW50 on your VGA adapter if applicable. Follow the instructions included with the product (s), understanding that this is a mock-up for now. So there is no need to coat the CPU with thermal grease. Don t forget to have the CPU core protected with masking tape (regular scotch tapes also works well), to protect the water-blocks from scratches! 8. Now that we have all the elements in place, let us examine how to secure the tubes to the fittings, before we proceed with cutting them. A/ Quick-connect fittings Rule #1: Always cut the tube square. A good pair of scissors works better than a razor blade, as you can control the angle of the cut better. Square cut Fully insert the tubes into the fittings. The tip of the plastic tube inserts should be flush with the inlet and outlet openings, as shown in the pictures below. Inserting the tubes requires a firm push, accompanied by a twisting motion. Rule #2: With soft vinyl tubing, you must always use the provided tube insert Rule #3: Make a habit of spreading some grease (Vaseline, or liquid soap, etc.) around the extremity of the tubing. This greatly facilitates full insertion of the tube into the fitting. B/ Tightening clamps to the Radiator inlet and outlet: Proper installation: there should be only 2 to 3 notches left open once the clamp is fully tightened. DISCONNECTING A QUICK-CONNECT Push in collet squarely against face of fitting. With the collet held in this position, the pipe can be removed Your kit also contains a release aid tool which you can place over the collet, and helps pushing the collet squarely while removing the tube Copyright Swiftech 2002 Last edited Dec 12, 2002 Subject to revision without notice - 3 -

9. The next step is to start connecting the cooling components with each other, following the recommendations described in the schematics below. It is important to avoid sharp bends. Excessive bending will result in collapsing the tube, causing severe restriction to the coolant flow rate. Highest possible flow rate is essential to proper cooling. TUBE ROUTING AND FILL & BLEED OPERATIONS WITHOUT VGA COOLING If radiator is installed sideways connect the lowest tube to be the inlet To fill and bleed From water-block Fill & bleed kit MCR80 If radiator is installed straight up, you can use either one of the tubes for inlet and outlet To radiator To fill and bleed MCW5000 From pump Closed P u m p o u t l e t Pump P u m p i n l e t Feed bottle Always connect individual components from bottom to top, so that the liquid naturally pushes the air up and out, during the fill and bleed process From pump To radiator Copyright Swiftech 2002 Last edited Dec 12, 2002 Subject to revision without notice - 4 -

Before you begin filling up the circuit with coolant: You have the choice between two strategies at this point: 1. You can remove your motherboard, and let the water-block(s) hang from the tubes while filling the circuit. This would guarantee absolute safety to your components in case of a catastrophic leak. 2. If you feel that your installation is sound, simply leave the components installed, and proceed with the next step. Since your electronic components are not electrically connected, a minor spill of liquid is not necessarily a catastrophe. Simply wipe the spill off the component, and use a blow drier to evaporate the moisture. It is however always good practice to let component that have been exposed to moisture dry overnight before using them. TIP! A good way to test your circuit for leaks without filling it out with liquid: close the main valve Connect the 2 precut tubes that came with your kit to the inlet and outlet of the fill & bleed kit, then open one valve, and close the other. Suck vigorously on the open line to create a vacuum in the circuit (see note*). If the vacuum persists, then your system is air tight, therefore leak proofed Note *: the PVC tubing we use is food grade; as long as you clean the extremity properly, it is safe to put in your mouth. For this next step, you will need to run the pump. So, it is necessary to TEMPORARILY connect the L wire from the A/C socket to the N\C position on the relay switch. This bypasses the switch, allowing the pump to run as soon as you plug it into an A/C outlet. Do not forget to reconnect to N\O once done, or the pump will shut off when you turn computer on instead of running!!! Fill and bleed operations, step by step: Your kit comes with a 2 Oz (60ml) bottle of Swiftech s specially formulated HydrX concentrated coolant. The product should be mixed with demineralized water only. Simply empty the concentrated coolant into a 33 fl oz (1l) plastic bottle, and complete filling with your distilled water. Your coolant is ready. Close the main valve, and open both fill and bleed valves. Connect the 2 precut tubes that came with your kit to inlet and outlet of the fill & bleed kit. The extremity of the inlet tube should be pushed all the way down the bottom of the feed bottle. MAIN VALVE Close Fill & Bleed valves Hold the feed bottle above the computer, and start gently sucking on the outlet tube. The coolant will start flowing down the inlet and fill-up the circuit by simple gravity. Inlet tube Suck on outlet tube Copyright Swiftech 2002 Last edited Dec 12, 2002 Subject to revision without notice - 6 -

Now place the outlet tube into the bottle, without submerging it into the liquid at first, and start the pump. Observe for a moment that the liquid is now flowing vigorously through the circuit, and then push the outlet tube down to the bottom of the bottle. Let the system run for a minute or two, until all the bubbles are gone. Inspect the circuit for possible leaks, visually and also by touching the different connections. Pump is flowing nicely Troubleshooting note: If there is no flow after you turned the pump on, chances are that you didn t connect your system properly. Go back to the Tube Routing section, and make sure that you followed all our instructions. Once you have discovered the source of the problem, correct it, and restart the above process. You must always flush all the liquid from the circuit before you begin filling it, or you may not be able to bleed properly. While your system is running, and still holding the feed bottle, flip your case face up for a few seconds. T I P! Then, bring the case back to vertical again. Final step: there is always a little bit of air trapped inside the main valve itself. To flush it out, turn the main valve on and off two to three times. Wait one more minute until this last bit of air bubbles are flushed out of the system. Your system is now fully bled! Shut off the inlet valve first, then the outlet valve, and finally open the main valve. The coolant is now circulating into a close circuit. There will be no maintenance required, and no need to refill the system over time, as the circuit is completely air-free, and there is no evaporation of the fluid. Lift the inlet, and outlet tubes from the bottle above the coolant level, and lower the bottle below the level of the computer. This will allow whatever coolant was trapped into the tubes to empty itself into the feed bottle: no spill, no mess Remove the inlet and outlet tubes. th Rouchon Industries, Inc., dba Swiftech 1703 E. 28 St, signal Hill, CA 90755, USA T (562) F (562) All content Copyright Swiftech 2002 Last edited Dec 12, 2002 Subject to revision without notice -7-

Clean off the opening of the fittings to prevent the last remnants of moisture to drop into your case. For absolute safety, it is good practice to let the cooling system run overnight before you fire-up your computer! WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LEAK-TEST THE CIRCUIT USING COMPRESSED AIR OR CITY WATER PRESSURE. THIS WILL CAUSE EXCESSIVE INTERNAL PRESSURE INSIDE THE PUMP, RESULTING IN IMMEDIATE AND IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO THE PUMP, AND VOID YOUR WARRANTY. LEAK-TESTING CAN ONLY BE PERFORMED BY RUNNING THE PUMP ITSELF AND/OR GRAVITY FEEDING THE CIRCUIT. EXCESSIVE INTERNAL PRESSURE CAN ALSO BUILT-UP WHEN USING THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICES WITHOUT APPROPRIATE COOLING TO THE DEVICE, AND IS NOT COVERED BY OUR WARRANTY. Now that your system is filled and bled, complete the installation of the processor (and graphics card if applicable): remove the tape you used to protect the processor(s), clean off the surface of the core(s) with rubbing alcohol to remove any possible residues of glue transferred from the masking tape, coat the cores with the provided thermal compound, following instructions described in the individual installation guides provided with your water-block(s). REMEMBER to reconnect the L wire from the A/C socket to the N\O position on the relay switch!!! REMEMBER to connect the 4-pin Molex connector from switch to the computer power supply once it has been installed. IMPORTANT PRECAUTION: ONCE YOUR SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY INSTALLED, AND YOU FIRE IT OFF FOR THE FIRST TIME, ALWAYS TOUCH THE PUMP TO FEEL IT VIBRATING: THIS IS EVIDENCE THAT YOUR PUMP IS WORKING!
