2 Preface This manual provides information about installing this Topcon Precision griculture product. Correct installation, use and servicing is important for safe and reliable operation of the product. It is very important that you take the time to read this manual before installing the product. Limited Warranty ELECTRONIC ND MECHNICL COMPONENTS -TP warrants that the electronic components manufactured by TP shall be free of defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one year from the original date of shipment to the dealer. TP warrants that all valves, hoses, cables and mechanical parts manufactured by TP shall be free of defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 90 days from the date of sale. RETURN ND REPIR - During the respective warranty periods, any of the above items found defective may be shipped to TP for repair. TP will promptly repair the defective item at no charge, and ship it back to you. You must pay the shipping and handling charges in respect of the same. Calibration of components, labor and travel expenses incurred for in-field removal and replacement of components are not covered in this warranty policy. 7 Safety for this Installation Critical ction: Before starting any work on the vehicle Shut down the vehicle as per the manufacturer s operator s guide. llow the machine to cool before working on the machine. Remove the ignition key to prevent accidental starting of the machine. Critical ction: Practice safe workshop practices Clean the machine and target work areas thoroughly before commencing any work on the vehicle to prevent contamination of hydraulic and electrical systems. Dispose of any oil, coolant or machine fluid as per local laws and legislation. Manually secure any machine components that must be raised, worked under, worked around or removed as part of the installation or service procedure. Never work on, adjust, lubricate or perform maintenance on a vehicle that is in motion or has powered moving parts. Keep all vehicle parts in good working order. If damage is found, report damage to the vehicle owner and your manager immediately. For self-propelled machines equipped with an electrical system, disconnect the negative (-) and positive (+) battery terminals before performing electrical system service and maintenance or welding on the vehicle. Implements equipped with an electrical system, disconnect the entire implement - tractor harness connections before performing electrical system service and maintenance or welding on the implement. Critical ction: Install and handle brackets and electronic system components safely Install and handle all vehicle mounting brackets in a safe manner. Serious injury can result from falling while performing service, installations or maintenance. Use secure vehicle handholds and foot holds where specified by the manufacturer. If footholds and handholds do not allow access to the necessary work area use a ladder, scaffold or other means of safe, secure access. Do not commence work in wet, windy or icy conditions. 9 Chapter 1 Overview and Components The GI4 is a multi functional GPS receiver with inbuilt inertial system, modem and steering controller functionality. The system 150 or system 350 guidance systems are supported with the GI4 receiver. This guide includes references on how to mount and set up the System 150 or 350 or standalone ISOBUS system with an GI4 receiver. This installation guide refers to Topcon universal vehicle installations, GCO vehicle installations and ISOBUS type installations. Installation Time Installation Time: pproximately 1.0 hour. 14 Chapter 2 Install GI4 Internal components 2.1 Installing IMU Inertial Module 1. B Place the GI4 receiver on a clean, hard flat surface such as a work bench or desk. Using M 2 llen key loosen the 10 screws retaining the base plate to the GI4 receiver. Using a small screwdriver loosen and remove the base plate from the front of the receiver B. Note: the screws are not removable from the base plate 2. Install the IMU module, taking care to align the IMU module connector first. Press the IMU module firmly in place with the palm of your hand. Secure the IMU module to the GI4 receiver with the 2 screws attached to the IMU module using a M 2.5 allen Key Tension screws to 0.5Nm. 2-1

15 Chapter 2 Install GI4 Internal components 2.2 Installing RTK Module 1. Remove the nut and washer from the antenna cavity plug from the outside of the receiver. Remove the cavity plug from the inside of the receiver. Do not discard the plug as it may be re installed at a later date if the module is removed. 2. If the GI4 is being configured to use a cellular mobile network to receive RTK corrections, insert the Network Providers SIM card in the slot located on the side of the RTK module. 3. Install the RTK module, taking care to align the connectors first. Press the RTK module firmly in place with the palm of your hand. Secure the RTK module to the GI4 receiver with the attached screw using an llen key. Tension screw to 0.5Nm. 2-2

16 Chapter 2 Install GI4 Internal components 4. Locate the RTK radio module connection cable. B Remove the nut and lock washer from the fitting and ensure the orange seal B is in place. 5. Place the connector attached to modem cable into the hole in the side of the GI4 casing 6. Secure the connector with the nut and lock washer previously removed from the modem cable. Tension modem connector securing nut to 3.3Nm 7. Re install receiver base plate. Tighten base plate screws evenly until base plate is seated. Tension base plate screws to 1.3Nm. 2-3

17 Chapter 3 Install GI4 to GCO receiver side mount (G5264) 1. Place the GI4 receiver on a clean, hard flat surface such as a work bench or desk. Locate the 3 mounting point threaded holes 2. Place the GB1280 bracket directly on top of the receiver and align the receiver mounting point holes with the bracket. Secure the GB1280 bracket to the receiver with the supplied M5 countersunk screws. Tension receiver mounting screws to 1.3Nm. 3. ssemble the swell latch and solid spacer together as shown. B Insert the swell latch shaft and solid spacer assembly B through the GB1280 bracket as shown. 3-1

18 Chapter 3 Install GI4 to GCO receiver side mount (G5264) 4. Open the swell latch so the handle is in the upright position. Place the soft spacer and the swell latch nut assembly onto the swell latch shaft. Tighten the swell latch nut until the soft spacer makes contact with the GB1280 bracket. 5. Locate the 2x GI4 receiver connectors. The B receiver connections are color coded = Grey B = Black 6. If required: Note: GCO installations use only the grey connector side. Topcon universal installations use both the grey and black connectors for increased functionality. Connect the (G4930) GCO GI4 harness to the grey connector. Push connector firmly in to secure the connection Install rubber grip strip as shown. Trim as necessary for harness clamp installation. Note: Rubber grip strip requires trimming to allow for correct harness clamp installation. 3-2

19 Chapter 3 Install GI4 to GCO receiver side mount (G5264) 7. Install harness P clamp as shown. Secure with supplied countersunk bolt and nut. Tension P clamp to 5Nm. Mounting is complete. 3-3

20 Chapter 4 Install RTK ntenna to GCO receiver side mount 4.1 Medium gain 450 MHz and 915 MHz Frequency ntenna 1. Insert the RTK antenna male- male fitting through the top of the mounting bracket using the smaller of the 2 holes. Secure the male male fitting with the supplied nut and lock washer. Tension to 3.3Nm 2. Connect one end of the supplied antenna cable to the base of the male male fitting. Tension finger tight. 3. Connect the 450Mhz antenna to the top of the male fitting. Tension finger tight. 4-1

21 Chapter 4 Install RTK ntenna to GCO receiver side mount 4. Connect the 450Mhz antenna to the top of the male fitting. Tension finger tight. 5. Connect the antenna cable to the RTK radio module connection located on the side of the GI4 housing. Tension finger tight 4-2

22 Chapter 4 Install RTK ntenna to GCO receiver side mount 4.2 High gain 450 MHz antenna 1. Insert the RTK antenna male- male fitting through the top of the mounting bracket using the larger of the 2 holes. B djust the position of the upper male base so the antenna RF pin base is approximately 1mm above the upper male base. Secure the male male fitting with the supplied nut and lock washer B. Tension to 3.3Nm 2. Connect the large end of the supplied antenna cable to the base of the male male fitting. Tension hand tight 3. Secure the high gain antenna to the upper male base. Tension hand tight 4. Connect the antenna cable to the RTK radio module connection located on the side of the GI4 housing. Tension finger tight 4-3

23 Chapter 5 Install GI4 to Topcon side mount GB1248/GB bracket Identify Receiver side mounting There are 2 Topcon universal receiver side brackets that are compatible with GI3 and/or GI4 receivers. B = GB1248 (rev 1.1 and rev 1.2) B = GB1315 (rev 1.0) The GB1248 is compatible with the GI3 receiver and/or GI4 receiver but only allows the High gain antenna mounting option with the GI3 receiver due to the position of the antenna mount. Later revisions (Rev 1.2) allow for the Medium gain 915Mhz or the 450Mhz antenna with the GI3 receiver only. The GB1315 is compatible with the GI3 and/or GI4 receiver and only allows the Medium and/or High gain antenna mounting options with either the GI3 receiver and/or GI4 receiver. 2. Place the GI4 receiver on a clean, hard flat surface such as a work bench or desk. Locate the 3 mounting point threaded holes. 5-1

24 Chapter 5 Install GI4 to Topcon side mount GB1248/GB Identify receiver side mounting bracket position Case IH position Topcon universal position Note: The GB1248 and GB1315 can be positioned to allow for mounting the receiver on the Topcon universal roof mounting brackets or CaseIH receiver roof mounts. lign the front arrow receiver arrow with the corresponding notch position for correct mounting. 4. Place the GB1248 or GB1315 bracket directly on top of the receiver and align the receiver mounting point holes with the bracket. 5. Secure the GB1248 or GB1315 bracket to the receiver with the supplied M5 countersunk screws. Tension receiver mounting screws to 3.3Nm. ssemble the swell latch and solid spacer together as shown. B Insert the swell latch shaft and solid spacer assembly B through the GB1248 or GB1315 bracket as shown. 5-2

25 Chapter 5 Install GI4 to Topcon side mount GB1248/GB Open the swell latch so the handle is in the upright position. 7. Place the soft spacer and the swell latch nut assembly onto the swell latch shaft. Tighten the swell latch nut until the soft spacer makes contact with the GB1248 or GB1315 bracket. Repeat for the opposite side mounting location. 8. Locate the 2x GI4 receiver connectors. The receiver connections are color coded. = Grey B = Black Note: GCO installations use only the grey connector side. Topcon universal installations use both the grey and black connectors for increased functionality. Remove the black side cavity plug from the back side of the connector. Cut retaining cable at location and remove the cavity plug and cable from the receiver. Do not discard the plug as it may be re installed at a later date if the receiver is shifted to a different vehicle. 5-3

26 Chapter 6 Install G4903 GI3 - GI4 dapter Harness 1. Mount the GI-4 receiver as shown in mounting instructions. Connect corresponding grey and black system harnesses to the receiver connectors as shown. 2. B Connect the 40 pin connector adapter G4903 to the mating GI3 vehicle harness. Secure the connection with the GI3 harness thumbscrew B. 6-1

27 Chapter 7 Install RTK ntenna to Topcon side mount GB1248/GB ttach the GB1316 RTK radio antenna mounting bracket to the GB1315 GI3/4 mounting bracket. Secure with 3x M4 counter sunk screws supplied. Tension screws to 4.0Nm. 2. For medium gain 450Mhz and 915Mhz antenna: Insert the RTK antenna male- male fitting through the top of the mounting bracket using the small hole. Secure the male male fitting with the supplied nut and lock washer. 3. Tension to 3.3Nm. Connect one end of the supplied antenna cable to the base of the male male fitting. Tension finger tight. 7-1

28 Chapter 7 Install RTK ntenna to Topcon side mount GB1248/GB Mhz Connect the 915Mhz or the 450Mhz antenna to the top of the male - male fitting. Secure finger tight. 450Mhz 5. Connect the other end of the antenna to the RTK radio module fly out connector. Tension finger tight. 7-2

29 Chapter 7 Install RTK ntenna to Topcon side mount GB1248/GB For high gain 450Mhz antenna: Insert the RTK antenna male- male fitting through the top of the mounting bracket using the large hole. djust the position of the upper male base so the antenna RF pin base is approximately 1mm above the upper male base. B Secure the male male fitting with the supplied nut and lock washer B. Tension to 3.3Nm. 7. Connect the large end of the supplied antenna cable to the base of the male male fitting. 8. Secure the high gain antenna to the upper male base. Tension hand tight. 9. Connect the other end of the antenna to the RTK radio module fly out connector. Tension finger tight. 7-3

30 Chapter 8 Set up GI4 receiver for Operation Chapter 8 Set up GI4 receiver for Operation 8.1 X30 Console The GI4 needs to have the following configured when using an X30 console; GPS receiver type Use ignition Line enable/disabled Keep live Time 1. Start up the console as per the X30 operators guide. From the main screen select System, GPS and Receiver 2. Select GPS Receiver. 3. From the dropdown menu select GI4 as the GPS receiver. Then select the confirm button. If using Glonass GPS satellites with your differential solution select Glonass to Enabled. 8-1

31 Chapter 8 Set up GI4 receiver for Operation 4. If using an GI4 receiver on an GCO vehicle with the G4930 harness, the Use Ignition line option must be set to disabled. If using the G4903 GI3 GI4 adapter harness, the Use Ignition line option must be set to disabled. If using an GI4 receiver with a Topcon Gen II or Gen II lite harness the Use Ignition Line must be set to enabled. To enable or disable select the Use Ignition Line Option. 5. Select Enable or Disable. Select to confirm. 6. Select Keep alive time (minutes). Using the key pad, enter the desired time (in minutes) to keep the receiver active after the system has been shut down. Select to confirm. Eg: To keep the receiver on for 1hour after the system is shut down to keep satellite convergence enter 60mins. Note: this feature is only available if the use ignition line is set to enabled. 8-2

32 Chapter 8 Set up GI4 receiver for Operation 8.2 GX45 Console The GI4 needs to have the following configured when using an GX45 console. GPS receiver type Use ignition Line enable/disabled Keep live Time 1. Start the GX45 console as per the operators manual. On the main system menu select GPS Settings. for the 2. Select from the GPS settings screen to display the GPS receiver selection menu. 3. From the GPS selection screen using the up and down arrows select the GI4 then select to confirm your selection and the GPS settings menu should be displayed. 8-3

33 Chapter 8 Set up GI4 receiver for Operation 4. Select from the GPS settings menu to display the receiver configuration menu. 5. To enable or disable the Use Ignition line setting on the GI4 select Configuration menu. from the Receiver 6. If connecting an GI4 receiver to an GCO vehicle with (G4930) Harness or connecting it using the G4903 GI3- GI4 adapter harness, the Use Ignition line setting needs to be set to Disabled. Use the up/ down arrows to Disable the Use Ignition Line setting. Select to confirm. 7. If using an GI4 receiver with a Topcon Gen II or GenII harness the Use Ignition Line must be set to Enabled Use the up/ down arrows to enable the Use Ignition Line setting. Select to confirm. 8-4

34 Chapter 8 Set up GI4 receiver for Operation 8. To set the Keep live Time select the Receiver Configuration Menu. from 9. Use the up/ down arrows or the keypad to set the desired keep alive time (in minutes). This will keep the receiver active after the system has been shut down. Select to confirm. This feature is only available if the Use Ignition Line is set to enabled. 8-5

35 Chapter 8 Set up GI4 receiver for Operation 8.3 ISOBUS VT Console The GI4 needs to have the following configured when using an ISOBUS VT Console; Standby Time Terminal Wait Time 1. Start-up the virtual terminal as per the terminal s Operator s guide. In some cases the terminal and receiver will activate at the same time. If the GI4 has a separate power switch turn on the power switch. fter approximately 2-3 mins the GI4 VT terminal should load this is dependent on how the ISOBUS has been configured. If there are more than one ISO device connected you may be required to select terminal. to display the GI4 VT 2. If this is the first time you have used the system, ensure you read the displayed warning message. Use and to scroll through the warning message. Select to accept the warning message. 3. To setup the GI 4 using the ISO VT terminal it must be set to advanced mode. When started for the first time the ISO VT will default to the basic operation mode screen. To change to advance mode select the basic operation screen. from Then select. 8-6

From the advanced set-up screen select twice then select sub menu. to display the system 6. From the system submenu select to display the settings for Standby by Time and terminal wait time. 7. Standby time is the same feature as the Use Ignition line setting on the X30 and GX45 consoles. If using an GI4 receiver on an GCO vehicle with the (G4930) harness set the Standby Time to 0. If using GI4 receiver with a Topcon Gen II or Gen II lite Harness, set the desired Standby Time (in minutes) to keep the receiver active after the virtual terminal has been shut down. Select to exit and save. 8-7
