5 Safety Instructions This WeedRoller is designed and tested to offer safe service. Failure to operate it in accordance with the following safety instructions MAY RE- SULT IN PERSONAL INJURY! Before Operating Read and become familiar with the owners manual before attempting to operate this equipment. Use a 110 volt ground fault interrupter circuit. Never allow people in the water while the WeedRoller is operating. Adjust the reversing switches to proper angle. Do not allow children to operate this equipment. Do not allow hands, clothing, or any part of body near moving part. Electrical Safety Use the machine only with extension cords suitable for outdoor use to prevent shock hazard. Suitable extension cords are extremely important for the operators personal safety. Use minimum 14 gauge wire size, no longer than 100 feet. Never use an indoor extension cord type. Ensure the power cord is in good condition. A cord with cracked or broken insulation is hazardous, particularly in the presence of moisture or combustible material. It is also important that the connectors be of rugged construction, in good condition, and securely attached to the outer jacket. Remove the extension cord immediately from the wall receptacle if the power cord is damaged in any manner while operating the machine. Use only an electric circuit having adequate capacity. Determine the cause and take corrective action if a fuse is blowing or circuit breaker is tripping. Blowing a fuse or tripping a circuit breaker is a warning the machine is overloading, or too many devices are taking power from the circuit, or both. Do not install a higher capacity fuse. Do not abuse the power cord. Never pull a machine by the cord to disconnect it from the receptacle. Keep the power cord away from excessive heat, oil, and sharp edges. Keep power cord out of the water. Disconnect the machine when not in use, before servicing, and when changing attachments. Page 2 WeedRoller Owner Operator's Manual and Parts Catalog

6 Preparation Operation Safety Operate the WeedRoller on a fairly smooth surface. Each flex coupler assembly allows a 10 degree flex. Visually check that all screws, nuts, bolts, and other fasteners are properly secured before starting the machine. Check all screws, nuts, bolts, and other fasteners for proper tightness once every 50 hours of operation to insure everything is in proper working condition. Check the lake bottom for exposed pieces of metal, rock, bottles, cans, or other foreign objects before running the WeedRoller. Remove the objects to allow the WeedRoller to do a better job and to make the area safer for swimming and water use. Clear visible obstructions from surface area where the WeedRoller will run. Disconnect power source and make sure all moving parts are completely stopped before inspecting or servicing any part of the machine. Disconnect power source and allow machine to stop if the WeedRoller strikes a foreign object or starts making an unusual noise or vibrating. After stopping the WeedRoller: a) Inspect for damage. b) Replace or repair any damaged parts. c) Check for and tighten any loose parts. Keep the rollers clean of debris and accumulations of weeds. Do not allow large amounts of material to build up on the rollers, this can cause the machine to stall or cause damage to drive system. Disconnect the power source if the machine stalls or becomes blocked. Do not move the WeedRoller while it is operating. Disconnect the 110 volt power cord and be sure all moving parts have come to a complete stop before allowing people in the water or when adjusting or servicing the WeedRoller. 16 Adjust the Switch Arms The WeedRoller motor turns the magnet mounted on the pivot tube in the direction of one of the two switch arms during operation. The proximity sensor mounted on the arm detects the magnet and signals the smart switch to reverse the direction of the motor. The motor turns until the other proximity sensor detects the magnet; then the motor will reverse again. The maximum travel arc of the roller tubes is 270 degrees. The magnet is positioned on the pivot tube pointing towards the rollers. Adjust the magnet right or left to achieve the desired arc. See pages 14 & 15 for more information on roller tube arcs. The amount of roller tube arc depends on the amount of arc between the proximity sensors mounted on the adjustable switch arms. 1. Disconnect the extension cord from the plug on the drivehead. 2. Lift the cover on top of the drive head 3. Adjust the switch arms for desired WeedRoller arc. 4. The magnet mount bracket should be positioned between the switch arms. Note: If the roller tubes are about to rotate into a fixed object you can press the reverse switch to reverse the roller tubes. 5. Increase the arc between the switch arms for more roller tube arc. 6. Decrease the amount of arc between the switch arms for less roller tube arc. 7. Check gap between magnet and proximity sensors. The gap should be between 1/16" and 3/16". A. Adjust the magnet mount bracket assembly up or down by loosening screws on bracket. B. Additional adjustments can be made by slightly bending the proximity switch arms. 8. Close cover. 9. Connect the extension cord to the plug on the drivehead. 10. Watch the rollers tubes. If the rollers do not rotate within the desired arc repeat steps Keep roller operating angles at least 12" from fixed objects. 12. The WeedRoller is now ready to run. 17 Operation Roller Tube Arcs The WeedRoller is capable of many different mountings and roller arc degrees. The factors that produce different configurations are: Note: Typical owner installations will need operating hours per season. Excessive use will cause unnecessary wear on shaft and coupler components. Crary Co. warranty covers one season or 1000 operating hours, whichever comes first. a. The mount bracket positioning on your dock. b. The switch arms adjustments. The switch arms easily adjust to set the direction and arc of the rollers. See page 13 for more information. See examples of different dock mounting locations and roller arcs below and on the following page. Check the WeedRoller frequently to make sure it is not blocked by debris (branches, rocks, or stumps) when using it for the first time, or anytime it's moved to a new location. Inspect often until it can move freely over the lake bottom. Operate the WeedRoller continuously (when waterfront is not otherwise in use) for initial clearing until area is cleared. Clearing can amount to one day to one week. Run the WeedRoller enough to keep the area clear of weeds after area is initially cleared. Typical operation is 10 hours once every week. Time varies with conditions. Gather and dispose dislodged weeds to prevent contamination of other areas of the lake which would otherwise float away and spread. 19 Load Reverse The smart switch is designed for varying conditions. Initial setting from the factory is a 6 amp draw. The smart switch tracks the amp draw for 10 cycles (sweeps) and resets the maximum amp draw (used to reverse the motor caused by an overload condition) automatically based on the conditions. Example: the initial setting is 6 (maximum) amp draw when the WeedRoller is first used. The smart switch records a 3.5 amp draw (highest amp draw during 10 cycles) and resets the maximum amp draw setting from 6 amp draw to 3.6 amps (.1 amps above peak current of 3.5 amps). The smart switch now reverses the WeedRoller tubes if the motor draws 3.6 amps or more. The smart switch continues to monitor the amp draw and reset the maximum amp draw each 10 cycles as previously explained. Protection Circuitry Operation The smart switch is equipped with a protection circuit that monitors the WeedRoller motor current draw. The motor draws about 3.5 amps during normal operation. The green light on the smart switch stays lit when the WeedRoller is operating normally. The switch reverses the motor before the roller tubes complete the arc set by the switch arms if the motor draws more amps than the maximum amp draw for more than three seconds. The smart switch counts the number of times it reverses the motor before the tubes complete the arc set by the switch arms. The green light on the smart switch flashes indicating the protection circuitry is activated and shuts off the motor if the motor reverses six times before completing the arc. The green light flashes 1 second if the overload protection circuitry activates. The counter resets automatically if the roller tubes complete the arc set by the switch arms before the counter gets to six. The light flashes red 1 second if the motor rotor locks. The green light flashes for 4 seconds if the motor has a open circuit. The red light flashes for 4 seconds if the motor short circuits. Resetting the Smart Switch Check for stuck roller tubes or obstructions before resetting the smart switch. See Preventing Problems Caused by Muddy Conditions on the next page for more information on operating the WeedRoller in abnormal conditions. Reset smart switch if adjusting the switch arms or moving the WeedRoller. Reset the protection circuitry by unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, waiting at least one (1) minute, and plugging it back in. The smart switch resets to the original setting of 5.5 amp draw. Page 16 WeedRoller Owner Operator's Manual and Parts Catalog

20 Preventing Problems Caused by Muddy Conditions The WeedRoller can become stuck in extremely muddy or weedy conditions. The following is a list of procedures to help under these conditions. Try one, or a combination of as many are needed, until the WeedRoller completes its arc without becoming stuck. Decrease roller arc to 50 degrees. Extend arc in 50 degree increments when rollers begin to move freely. Remove yellow roller tube caps. Drain water as necessary from roller tubes to increase flotation. Replace caps. Install a Crary Mud Kit. Order the Mud Kit (part #51320) for moderately muddy conditions. Order the Plastic Pipe Mud Kit (part #51134) for extremely muddy conditions. Adjusting the Dock Mounting Brackets for Muddy or Uneven Lake Bottoms Off-Season Storage Adjustable dock mounting brackets allow positioning the WeedRoller in a variety of different ways. Adjust the drive head assembly so its base is a few inches from the lake bottom, then tighten the adjustment knobs for very weedy or mucky conditions. This raises the roller tubes slightly to make it easier for the tubes to clear weeds and muck. Leave the adjustment knobs off if the lake bottom is uneven, or covered with small rocks or branches. This allows the drive head assembly to slide up and down freely on the rear post weldment and enables the roller tubes to conform to slight variances in the lake bottom. Clear as many rocks and branches as possible from the lake bottom before using the WeedRoller. The WeedRoller can be left in the lake year around if the lake does not freeze over. Remove the WeedRoller and store it for the winter if the lake freezes over. Be sure to drain water from rollers before storage. The complete unit attached to a roll away dock can be stored together. Raise the dock to lift the drive head assembly off the ground and fasten each roller assembly to the dock for easy storage. Cover the control top with a plastic bag or cover to protect against harsh weather conditions if stored outside. Be sure to drain water from rollers before storage. The unit can be disassembled into four separate sections: the drive head assembly and three individual rollers which can be stored indoors. Be sure to drain water from rollers before storage. 21 Service and Maintenance Tripped Circuit Breaker Install A New Magnet The power converter has an 8 amp circuit breaker on the 28 volt AC side. Disconnect the power converter from the 110 volt supply and inspect before resetting the breaker. Clear weeds and/or obstructions from the rollers or arc before restarting. NOTE: Blowing a fuse or tripping the circuit breaker is a warning that you have overloaded the circuit. Determine the cause and correct it. 1. Open the WeedRoller cover. 2. Loosen machine screw secured by locknut. 3. Snap magnet off magnet mount assembly. 4. Snap replacement magnet on magnet mount assembly. 5. Tighten locknut to secure machine screw.
