No. 1670, Turboprop Engine Propeller-Shaft Oil Seal Retaining-Ring-Halves - Replacement/Modification Of. To reduce oil leakage at the propeller shaft seal area, introduces new top and bottom half rings with shorter felt strip protrusion, modified felt strip layer orientation, and defined length. OHM Chapter 72-11-00 REDUCTION GEARBOX - REPAIR, Replacement of Worn or Damaged Felt Strip.. (b) Install the new felt strip (Ref. Fig. 1). NOTE: Make sure that the projection of the felt strip at the two ends of the ring half is 0.010 in. (0.25 mm) maximum. WARNING: USE EYE PROTECTION WHEN YOU WRITE WITH THE VIBRATION PEENING PROCEDURE. (c) Put a line across the old part number of the propeller-shaft oil seal retaining rings. Use the vibration peening procedure, 0.003 to 0.006 in. (0.08-0.15 mm) deep, and write the new part number in the same general area. (d) Anodize touch up per SPOP 42. (2) For engines in the field: (a) (b) (c) Remove felt strip insert from retaining ring half by carefully scraping slot area. Clean with acetone (PWC11-012) isopropyl alcohol (PWC11-014) or ardrox leeder 1064K (PWC11-023+) or desoclean 45 (PWC11-025+) envirosolv 655 (PWC11-005+). Discard remainder of felt strip. Cut the new felt strip to the length of the groove and in the specified limits (Ref. Fig. 1). NOTE: Make sure that the projection of the felt strip at the two ends of the ring half is 0.010 in. (0.25 mm) maximum. Apply adhesive (PWC08-006) to the groove of the propeller-shaft oil seal retaining ring and bond felt strip to the ring half with the black side to the bottom of the ring groove and in the specified limits. (d) Put the ring halves in the oven at 150 ± 5 F for 2 hours minimum or at 200 ± 5 F for 30 minutes minimum. WARNING: USE EYE PROTECTION WHEN YOU WRITE WITH THE VIBRATION PEENING PROCEDURE.
