Mini Flexible Gear Drive System 1
Welcome to Uniflex-stow remote mechanical valve operators. Our range is the most comprehensive solution for the remote operation of valves in every industry available today. We lead the world in delivering systems which make your industry a safer place. Remote mechanical systems for the operation of valves allow every industry using valves to locate the point of operation in a place of safety or convenience. Typically, you will use Elliott s Uniflex-stow remote valve technology when; The valve is located in a physically difficult to access position or hazardous/restricted environment When manual mechanical systems are required for reasons of back-up (redundancy and diversity) often for electric, pneumatic or hydraulic systems The standard lever /handwheel or actuator cannot be fitted or operated due to the restricted space or the position in which the valve has to be sited. A requirement for operation from more than one position is specified. Selection of the right Uniflex-stow SafeOperator solution The SafeOperator range features three systems; Uniflex-stow flexible shaft system with integrated gearing (System IG) Uniflex-stow flexible shaft (System FS) Uniflex-stow rigid rod (System RR) If, when considering a rigid rod installation, the routing is longer than 20 ft and/or, regardless of length, has more than two a 90 degree gearbox or swivel joints then select a flexible shaft system. In general flexible shaft systems (IG,FS) should be selected for longer and/or more complex routings. General design characteristics SafeOperator Flexible shaft system with integrated gearing The basic components are listed in section x 2
SafeOperator Flexible shaft Uniflex-stow remote valve operating systems SafeOperator Rigid rod The basic components are listed in section x. Refer to the selection guide and appendix. Application data Data required for the full specification of a remote operating system may include; Not all data is essential. The minimum data required to select the right system is; valve type, hand-wheel size and/or valve torque, routed length and estimated degrees of bends and/or number of 90 degree bends. 3
Selection SafeOperator Flexible shaft with integrated gearing & flexible shaft systems Once you have the minimum data please use the online system calculator to establish the correct system size to suit your application. SafeOperator Rigid rod system The torque limits for control rod shafting and fittings are: ½ 20 ft lbs ¾ 52 ft lbs 1 122 ft lbs 1 ¼ 210 ft lbs The table I in appendix can be used to apply design factors to determine the specifications of suitable rigid rod components in a remote valve operator system. Use the following steps to determine the correct rigid rod diameter and remote operator handwheel diameter. 1. Select the design factor (A, B, C or D) that most closely approximates the system under consideration. 2. Determine the valve handwheel diameter or valve operating torque for the valve that is to be remotely operated. 3. Reading down the appropriate design factor column and over from the valve handwheel/operating torque determined in two (2) above, locate the point of intersection under the column headed rod dia. and h. wheel dia. Note: The handwheel diameter at the remote operator has been increased to compensate for transmission system losses. If the rotation at the operating position is less than one turn, then a lever may be fitted. If the rotation is more than one turn, then a handwheel will be fitted. 4
Remote operators with indication USED ON SYSTEM IG The Elliott remote operating stations serve as an operation point for SafeOperator system. These units are designed to surface mount and the 22101M180A can also be mounted on a fabricated structure to serve as a floor stand. The counter type indicator can indicate 0-9,999 turns and can easily be replaced if damaged without removing the operator assembly. These units accommodate handwheels up to 16 inches in diameter with a.75 tapered square. NQ1311-103 NQ1311-117 5
USED ON SYSTEM IG This unique epicycloidal design has advantages superior to other gearboxes using common involuted tooth gears. Components operate in compression, not in shear. Unlike gear teeth with limited contact points, it has two-thirds of its reduction components in contact at all times. This design enables the gearbox to withstand shock loads exceeding 500% of their ratings, and provide exceptional performance, reliability and long life in the most severe applications. 6
Flexible shaft USED ON SYSTEM IG High quality flexible drives deliver the torque with the maximum efficiency. There are two in the range Type 1 (3/8 flexible shaft) and Type 2 (1/2 flexible shaft). Both enclosed in a hard wearing hytrel covered flexible casing. They are simple push on connectors, secured with set screw, to valve gearbox input shaft and remote operator output shaft. Simple assembly, making installation easy. 7
Male Valve Couplings USED ON SYSTEM IG, FS, RR Elliott manufactures a complete line of Valve Couplings that are suitable for use on non-rising handwheel valves, rising stem valves and rising handwheel valves. The units are fabricated from carbon steel and are available in a range of sizes to fit handwheels with diameters ranging from 3 inches to 30 inches. The units are attached to existing valve hand- wheels with U-Bolts (supplied by installer) so that assembly and disassembly can be accomplished quickly and easily. No modification to the existing valve is required. These couplings are available with male extensions, female extensions and quick disconnect versions to fit rigid rod and flexible shafting. IG & FS systems : Select the best fit to handwheel diameter. 8
DOUBLE UNIVERSAL JOINTS USED ON SYSTEM RR Elliott Double Universal Joints are ideally suited to handle parallel misalignments up to 37 and angular misalignments to 70. Available in various materials. Lengths may vary from dimensions shown. Note: U-Joints meet MIL-U-20625A when specified. 9
Hand Wheels also available in bronze USED ON SYSTEM IG, FS, RR NQ1468-355 10
Double universal joint USED ON SYSTEM IG The double universal joint connects the IG gearbox to the valve couplings or can be engineered to connect directly to the valve input shaft. Direct valve coupling kits USED ON SYSTEM IG, FS The IG gearbox or partner gearbox can be connected directly to the valve using a coupling kit. These are engineered to suit your valve flange. Partner gearbox for flexible shaft USED ON SYSTEM FS Our range of flexible shafts can be integrated with our Rotork range of valve gearboxes to deliver the most flexible solution available in the industry today. 11
