3 GT/GTS Gas Turbine Meter Flow Restricting Orifice Plates Gas turbine meters, in general, tend to be forgiving measurement devices when overspeeding the rotor for short periods of time. However, some meters are placed in applications where excessive flow can be seen on a regular basis due to valves switching from one run to the next in a parallel scheme or from downstream piping variances. Sudden surges in flow can also be seen by purging the gas with a blow-down valve. For these applications, AGA Report #7 recommends the installation of restrictor plate five pipe diameters downstream of the gas turbine meter. The restrictor plates are to be sized to 120% of the meters maximum rated capacity. The installation of a restrictor plate can protect your turbine meter investment, and assure proper bearing life. American Meter is now offering various restrictor plates for each size meter and rotor angle available within the GT, GTS, GTX & AccuTest product lines. Each restrictor plate is etched for identification showing the part number, meter size & class. In addition, the plate has a gasket finish (concentric grooves) for properly sealing between flanges. The part numbers for the restrictor plates are shown on the following page. 9
