SIZING Table 1 Rod selection chart: Choice of piston rod size: To choose the correct size of a piston rod for use in definite thrust conditions, proceed as follows: 1. Determine the type of fixing and end of the piston rod to be used. Then, by referring to the relative table 1, ascertain the stroke factor FC corresponding to the application requested. 2. Using the correct stroke factor as derived from table 1, find the ideal length according to equation: ideal length = actual length x stroke factor 3. Calcolate the load in thrust condition for the application, by multiplying the total section of the cylinder by the working pressure existing in the plant. 4. Using the diagram shown on the side (table 2 ), trace the point of intersection between the values of ideal length and thrust, which have been found by using the previous points 2 and 3. The correct section of the piston rod can be obtained from the curved line indicated as piston rod diameter, above the point of intersection.
