DATALUX GENERAL DESCRIPTION The significant features of this mount are: 1. It is designed to fit all vehicles for which a passenger side floor plate has been made. 2. The Tracer is placed high enough to prevent diverting driver s eyes from the road when viewing the screen. 3. Keyboard is on an articulating arm easily positioned for use by either the driver or passenger. 4. The keyboard is easily removable from its arm. It may then be used in the lap or, if it is equipped with a bar the keyboard will rest in the steering wheel. 5. Mounting position does not interfere with airbag deployment. 6. Support allows comfortable seating for the passenger. 7. It does not require any alteration to the dash, and can be easily swung aside to permit access to the radio, heater controls, etc. 8. At the home position the Tracer screen is at a 10 degree incline facing the driver and has additional stabilizing pressure against the dash. 9. The Tracer holder is mounted in an indexing cylinder which lets it rotate into a detent every 20 degrees, but with a fixed stop preventing it from being rotated in front of the passenger side air bag. A partial rotation (20-40 degrees) positions the Tracer for use by the passenger. 10. The mount will work equally well for both L.H. and R.H. drive cars, floor shift and column shift models. 11. The design is very versatile in that is allows up and down positioning as well an adjustable tilt to match the instrument panel angle. The indexing cylinder may be mounted on either side of the upright providing a selection of left-right positioning. Also, the pressure point on the dash can be adjusted on the rod running up the Tracer side. Page 3 Page 3

DATALUX INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. Follow included directions to install floor plate for the vehicle model. If there is no floor plate available for that model it is necessary to design and construct one or secure the mount directly to the floor of the vehicle using at least four M10 or 3/8-16 screws and nuts. Rather than bolt the mount directly, it is suggested that a general purpose floorplate be used, i.e. Datalux part P902. 2. After mounting the floor plate, screw the mount s upright weldment to the floor plate using the M10 or 3/8-16 screws provided. 3. Decide the most appropriate positioning of the top assembly of the mount either to the right or left of the upright weldment. See Figure 1. This is a selection of the most advantageous lateral positioning of the computer. Experience has shown that moving the indexing cylinder to the passenger side of the upright is only necessary to avoid conflict with some column mounted shifters. Most vehicles will allow mounting on the driver s side which is preferable since it allows more passenger room. Note that when switching the top assembly from left to right, the Tracer holding plate must be re-bolted onto the indexing tube after rotating 180 degrees. See Figure 2. This is required by fixed rotational stops which prevent the Tracer from ever being swung in front of the passenger side airbag. For R.H. drive vehicles the Tracer holding plate is made with the bolt pattern on the opposite side. Page 5
TO ORDER CALL: 1-800-DATALUX 4. Mount the keyboard arm bracket to the appropriate track on the side of the indexing cylinder. Note that this bracket is turned over depending on whether the top assembly is to the right or left of the upright weldment. See Figure 3. Attach the keyboard arm to the bracket using the screw and nut provided. The screw that holds the keyboard arm to the keyboard arm bracket should be inserted from the bottom. Once completely inserted through the keyboard arm bracket and the keyboard arm it should be tightened. The lock nut is then placed on top and tightened. 5. If the Tracer is to be frequently removed use the latch to secure it to holding plate using the latch. If not, then 4 M5 screws should be used to fix it to the mounting plate. See Figure 4. Page 6
DATALUX 6. Index the Tracer to a 10 degree incline toward the driver. See Figure 5. 7. Mount the top assembly of the mount to the upright weldment after deciding the best height for the computer and a vertical slope (tilt) approximately matching that of the dashboard. Refer again to Figure 1. We recommend as high a position as possible for the shortest driver, but not obstructing visibility of the road ahead or interfering with airbag deployment. At this point the back of the Tracer or the Tracer holding plate nearest the driver should be touching the dash. If not, reposition the top assembly accordingly. Page 7
TO ORDER CALL: 1-800-DATALUX 8. Select an appropriate vertical point for the Tracer to bear against the dash. When finished the Tracer should be almost in the indexing detent and pressing against the dash. Test by swinging the assembly away and back to see that it returns to its home position and retains pressure against the dash. This will serve to dampen additional vibration when driving on rough roads. 9. A stabilizer assembly is provided with each Universal Tracer Mount and adds to the its solidity if it can be installed. It should be installed where possible. Refer to Figure 6 and photos of mount. Tighten the screw to apply pressure from the dash to the mount assembly and then secure that position with the locknut 10. Run cables through the indexing tube and connect. Clip on the USB cable box and connect 12VDC vehicle power. Page 8 Page 8
